Well, if you are referring to sources and the actions of people outside of TGO that's fine - I just didn't see any indication in your initial comments that you were referencing the world at large.   As far as the world at large, I would tend to agree with your comments...I don't confer sainthood on a celebrity simply because he/she is a dead celebrity. In Walker's case it was pretty simple for me; I liked his movies and, unlike many in Hollywood, he seemed to be a decent guy off screen. 

I must have missed the post(s) where someone did that - what I've read and I think the gist of what most have said is that some folks liked his movies and are sad to see him gone;  I don't see what's wrong with feeling that way. I haven't seen any gnashing of teeth or violins playing for him. I really don't think anyone here has tried to make his death something special or even hinted that it was heroic or "more important" that some others.   Is the death of a soldier or a veteran or an innocent child more important or noteworthy; sure it is...does that mean we shouldn't take note of this death because Walker wasn't one of those?  I don't think so.

Sometimes being lucky works better than being smart and if one is as stupid as this lady then luck is probably all that is keeping her alive!   As the saying goes, we are all born ignorant but we must work hard to remain stupid! ;)

Frankly, this episode really bothered me and I'm about ready to stop watching the series.   There seems to be no hope here for anyone...I know...in a real EOTWAWKI scenario a lot of good people will die and society may never recover but I'm getting tired of seeing good characters get killed off and wondering why I should keep watching!

Glorified street racing? I think the street racing element of society was pretty well established before the F&F movies came out...in other words, I think the movies simply reflected/showed the culture that already existed more than glorifying it.   If it did glorify it I think we could say the same for just about every movie ever made; that they glorify something/some activity (and often not something "good" like violence or crime or killing or firearms or promiscuous sex or lying or cheating or steeling or murder (or all the above in some movies) or FILL IN THE BLANK???   The bottom line is that a fairly young man (young enough to be the son of many of us here) who had a very promising life ahead of him and who, by the accounts I've read, was a pretty damn good guy off screen has been killed and it wasn't his fault (he wasn't driving).  I think that should make all of us a bit sad and also be a reminder that none of us have a guarantee of even the next second of life.

I'm wondering how they get the little plastic containers back???  Maybe they just don't and consider that part of the packaging cost. ;) I think we should go back to phuumatic tubes like all the big department stores used to have...we could have a delivery and a return tube in every home and building in America and wouldn't endanger air space.   Of course they would have to be big enough in diameter to accommodate a reasonable sized package. LOL

For what purpose? So that you can tell argue that my definition is wrong and yours is right?   If your speed is causing a backup of traffic behind you then you are impeding traffic...why is that so difficult to understand?   Now, if I'm behind someone and they are going the speed limit AND actually passing the vehicle(s) in the right lane I'm not going to get any heartburn over that; I'm more than happy stay a safe distance back and let them pass until they can get over safely; then I expect them to get over! However...if they are just sitting in the passing lane with no traffic to their right or if they are inching along at 1MPH faster than the vehicle(s) they are passing or if they purposely slow down so as not to pass at all just to screw with people then they are simply being stupid, lazy or an ass (or a stupid, lazy ass) and deserving of whatever visual or auditory signals they get from other motorists as well as deserving of a ticket per TN state law.

I enjoyed his movies. As was said above, he seemed to have a bright future.   I can't help but be sad when I hear of someone dying needlessly and also feel a bit blessed that I'm still around when so many who are younger than me and even live a less dangerous life have already passed on.   May he and Rogers RIP and prayers for their families and loved ones.

Just another thank you for those who offered their input! It turned out to be a very good range; not the most modern equipment but the folks there, including the RSOs were great people; my buddy and I had a great time and put about 500 rounds downrange between .45 ACP and 10MM.   My buddy, his wife and his one year old daughter are now on their way back to St Louis where they will fly out to Hawaii for the next three years (after which he'll likely retire)...I'm hoping to get out there myself sometime over that period as I've never been.   Anyway...thanks again!!!  :)

Which, other than small vehicle drivers who don't understand the phrase "passing lane"; is a significant part of the problem...one truck going 62.3 because that's where he gets his best MPG while another is most efficient at 62.6 so the "faster" truck pulls into the passing lane and takes five miles to pass the "slower" truck...I regularly see this on I24 heading toward Chattanooga with literally two dozen cars backed up because of one semi riding in the passing lane.

The law, at least where I read it, specifically uses the word "must"; I chose to emphasized it to make the point that it it's a requirement; not a suggestion since DaddyO didn't seem to think there were laws covering the issue at all. I'm not interested in "what-if" scenarios.

I don't see any reason why other drivers need to be held to your standard of "reasonable"!   I agree, tailgating is dangerous but it begs the question of how often is the tailgating occurring because someone simply won't pass the vehicles to their right or because a vehicle pulls into the passing lane just a few seconds before overtaking traffic reaches them?   All  drivers have a responsibility to act safely; regardless of who caused the tailgating; the tailgater should slow down and back off a ways until the vehicle in front has completed his pass but the one in front also has a responsibility to complete his pass quickly and not hold up following traffic just because he can or as some do, even slow down for the express purpose of impeding traffic.

As I said, quickly enough so as not to impede traffic; what isn't clear to you about that statement? If vehicles are backing up behind you then you are impeding traffic; I don't know how that could be any more clear. There isn't anything to be gained in arguing about MPHs with you since the statute doesn't even mention MPH. 

  My post didn't suggest any actions such as your statements above. I answered a question directed to me...your embellishment of my answer with "what-ifs" seems to be more for your own self-aggrandizement than a desire for discussion.

The Uniform Vehicle Code applies in all states; that code holds that a vehicle MUST move over if it's traveling slower than normal traffic (and if you have a line of cars behind you waiting to get by you ARE driving slower than normal traffic...your particular speed under, over or at the posted speed limit is immaterial in determining "normal traffic").   Most states, such as Tennessee, has made a similar statue part of its revised code (see Tennessee CodeAnnotated section 55-8-154(a) (2004), impeding traffic statute). Further, there are other states that have gone further and passed specific "passing lane" laws such as our neighbor to the north, Kentucky.   You can be stopped and you can be ticketed in Tennessee (and every other state) for sitting in the passing lane and holding up other traffic by doing so.   Some people seem to think it's their personal responsibility to "slow down speeders"...some are simply oblivious to what is going on around them...some are just old and don't care while some, hopefully not many, are just assholes who like to screw with other people and get their jollies from doing so. Regardless of why they do it, when drivers sit in the passing lane or pass very slowly and impede other traffic, they are setting themselves up for what could become a violent confrontation.  Again, just my opinion, but as citizens who have chosen to carry a firearm, I believe we have a duty...an obligation to avoid such things.   Every situation is unique of course but in general, it is illegal (and in my opinion, stupid) to be in the passing lane on a mufti-lane highway and not passing traffic to your right quickly enough so as not to impede the traffic behind you.

Not only is it unsafe; it's illegal.  If you are in the passing lane you must be going fast enough to actually pass the vehicle to your right and if you aren't willing to speed up enough to do so quickly and get out of the way then you need to move back to the right lane.

I would have called THP and hopefully given a full description of him, his vehicle and his license plate.   Anyone willing to display his weapon in such a threatening manner is someone who should probably not be carrying a firearm because he is either dangerous, stupid or dangerously stupid.

I carry a G30 and a G21 - I like Golden Saber but truly, any good JHP from a well-known major manufacturer should do fine, both for weapon dependability as well as for its need as a SD round.   Never carry anything other than JHP and never carry anything other than factory loaded.   Now, since the vast majority of us will never have to discharge our weapon for our own self-protection, the above sentence may seem immaterial. However, if you ever do have to discharge your weapon to protect your life but you and your attorney will be very happy if you followed the advice about factory loaded JHPs.

Happy Thanksgiving to all here on TGO and their family.   One of the things I am thankful for is TGO and those I've met through TGO...some of the best folks around (even the ones I occasionally disagree with). ;)

I doubt there is a legal issue for shooting a dog that is on your property; especially a dog that has jumped a fence to get there and even more especially given that the dog was attacking your livestock.As was suggested, however, it sure wouldn't hurt to talk with the local law enforcement agency to see if there would be any legal trouble.   Personally, I don't know that I could shoot a dog unless my own life or another person's life is in danger but that's just me.   One final thought; just because there may be no legal issues with shooting a don in the situation you had, that of course doesn't mean that the dog's owner might not sue you and even if he loses or only wins a few dollars from you it could be a big hassle.

I think all of us, and I really do mean ALL of us have much to be thankful for; even if we are going though difficult times...even if things seem impossible. This has been a hard year for me and one I'm very glad to see coming to a close yet I am blessed and I know that I am.   We live in what is still the greatest country the world has ever known; it may still yet return to its full greatness and potential but even if it doesn't there is no place I would rather live (and I've been in many, many countries over the years)...I have good friends...friends I can truly count on and as Clarance wrote George Baily on the inside cover of the Mark Twain book that showed up in the money basket; "No man is a failure who has friends".   I'm spending Thanksgiving with some of those friends in Knoxville this year...the last time I haven't been "home" with family on Thanksgiving was 1980; that year I was stationed at Bangor Submarine Base (Washington) and my wife and I decided not to make the trip back to Ohio that year.  Other than that and a couple of overseas deployments during the late 70's I've always been home for Thanksgiving. This year, my Mom is gone now (my dad passed i 2001) so this Thanksgiving is "different".   I hope every fellow TGO member has a great Thanksgiving.   .

I'm glad we can agree on something, Dave :) Let me say, though, that I don't really have an opinion of "HIM"; I don't know and don't really care if he is a wonderful person of a low-life SOB...to me, that has nothing to do with whether someone is or isn't guilty of a crime they've been accused of.
