  1. How would he not get in school with a gun - what would prevent it? Unless you want to go to extremes it isn't difficult for anyone to walk into a school with a firearm and if you do go to extremes; who is going to pay for it???   That's why we need armed SROs and we also need to make it legal and encourage teachers/admins to carry as well (as some states have done)...we need to repeal the ridiculous and completely useless "School Gun Free Zone" laws. If you want to stop school shootings then the answer is to have as many good people with firearms ready to respond as quickly as possible.
  2. I would submit that depending on specific circumstances, you cannot point a weapon in an absolutely, 100% "safe" direction...in those instances the best you can do is "safest".  For people who live in an apartment for example, I can easily see how the simply is not "safe" direction. One can usually violate one of the four rules of safe gun handling and be okay...it's even possible to violate two of the rules and be okay but violate three and very bad things can happen...I'm sure there is a lot more involved here than the "safe direction" issue.
  3. I'd rather just see us eliminate (or a wholesale restructuring of) welfare but at least this could be an improvement.
  4. Enjoy...   http://unlooker.com/airline-pulls-amazing-christmas-stunt-passengers/
  5. Well, the sluggish economy has impacted many industries and there is probably significant price competition. ;)
  6. Here we go again...   http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/12/13/sheriff-at-least-two-people-injured-in-colorado-shooting/   Apparently one student has shot two other students and as I post this the shooter is still believed to be inside of the school.
  7. Bot so very much fun!  ;)   I've got a real thing going for the current "Wendy's" girl...too bad I'm so old and she's so young (not to mention that my chance of even meeting her is about 10 degrees below absolute Zero!). LOL
  8. I don't know how much "work" is involved in taking this pistols and doing all the inlay, etc...I would assume that all the engraving is laser engraved and likely "perfect" and "automatic".   Overall; how well this holds its value is somewhat important...I'd like to know I'm not getting taken completely to the cleaners with the initial buy but overall, this is something that, like my a975 Series 70 Gold Cup National Match will be in my possession until I'm taking the long dirt nap. ;)
  9. Maybe wrong for some...     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2gCFOtaZPo
  10. You are truly a fountain of information. LOL
  11. Hello all!   I'm wondering if anyone here has had any dealings with "America Remembers" and their various commemorative edition firearms? I suppose I'm wondering how reputable they are/any known issues or problems, etc.?   I'm asking because I received a mailing form there regarding this Colt 1911 that has caught my interest:   http://www.americaremembers.com/product/colt-we-the-people-tribute-pistol/   I don't want to plunk down $2K only to get a worthless, low quality perhaps even unsafe to fire (even thought I would have no plans to fire it - it would strictly be for the pleasure of owning it).   Anyway...any opinions and especially personal experience would be helpful.   Thanks!
  12. Do they even have those here in TN???  ;)
  13. When did I say anything about a fairy tale city?   We have plenty of "crime" here although I sure don't hear gunshots every night; even when it's late at night. I live in one of the few cities in Tennessee that publicly reports all crimes in the city (Crimemapping.com)...there is only three in Tennessee that do.
  14. You took the words right out of my mouth. If I was one that suffered the loss this derelict inflicted I don't know that I could stop myself from exacting my own justice given the failure of the system to do its job.   Sometimes, punishment and revenge is called for...I'm sorry that this kid is already worthless at 16...I'm sorry that he probably had lousy, overindulgent parents who also should be held accountable for raising him to be the derelict he is...but "sorry" doesn't mean he and his parents shouldn't be punished for what they have done.
  15. I keep some mags loaded...the ones I intend to be ready for immediate use. Other than that mine are empty.  I suppose I could load them all but it seems a bit unnecessary.   I do agree, my understanding that it's the compression/decompression of the springs, etc that wears out a magazine...not whether it it or isn't loaded.
  16. Raise your hand...everyone who thinks they are more likely to be the victim of a violent crime in Chicago vs Nashville at 2AM.   Anyone?   ANYONE?   I would suggest that we should keep in mind that we are reading what someone else had to say about what the FBI said.  Unless someone here is a professional statistician and has reviewed both the statistics AND the methodology I'd suggest that just taking the article at face value is overly simplistic and prone to error.  I'm sure Tennessee is "dangerous" per capita...I'd still rather live in ANY city in Tennessee than Chicago or Detroit or Cleveland or many other cities in this country.
  17. There is little doubt that many crimes go unreported but I'd suggest that it's likely that the rate of unreported crimes is fairly uniform from area to area/location to location meaning that if all crimes were reported it wild likely show the same correlations we currently see; just at higher incidence rates.   As for anecdotal evidence; I was robbed twice in three years in Columbus, Ohio...I've never been robbed here in Tennessee after 17 years...does that really mean anything?  Probably not as anecdotal experience rarely does.
  18. Pretty "relative" (but not necessarily reflective) data it seems to me as it writing a story to present the facts in a way to support the already formed opinion of the writer!.   Certain cities, such as Chicago and Memphis are truly DANGEROUS but does that make the entire state dangerous?  Is the outlying/farmland in Illinois or Ohio or Indiana anything near as dangerous as the major cities in those states?  I suspect not just as I suspect that in most areas of Tennessee you aren't very likely to be the victim of a violent crime either.  Perhaps the major point to take from these numbers is that that we live in a dangerous time...we live in a time when we are probably far more likely to be the victim of a violent crime than our parents or grandparents or great grandparents which is, is it not, why most of us here and many others in Tennessee and across the country, have chosen to go armed?   I know when I was growing up it would never have occurred to my Dad that he needed to carry a side arm with him everywhere he went...but I DO NOW!   I would also suggest that our crime rate in TN and perhaps across the country would go down dramatically if we all just stayed away from WalMart...seems like 1 or 2 of every 3 violent encounters/shootings I read about happened either inside a WalMart or in a WalMart parking lot. ;)
  19. Every class I've ever had regarding what to do in a SD shooting is "Be the first to call 911 if you can to get your side of the story out there"..."make sure the police know that YOU are the victim". So is everyone who does that actually "guilty" but just "covering his butt".    A jury heard all the facts of the Zimmerman/Martin shooting and found him not guilty of charges that many attorneys (including the investigating officers, police chief and original DA) believed he should have never been charged with in the first place...don't you think maybe...just maybe...they got it right, Dave?
  20. Frankly, I would except about a year or so ago I decided to condense the calibers I have/use.  At this point, all my pistols are either 45ACP or 10MM and unless something changes I doubt I'll change that anytime soon.  There are a lot of interesting calibers out there but I don't have the budget or the time to enjoy them all! :)
  21. We'll move back in the direction of liberty when the electorate elects enough men and women who's principles are grounded in the Constitution and who are willing to govern and vote based on those principles...enough of such men and women that they won't need to "compromise". Until that happens we'll keep getting what we've been getting.
  22. I have a SCAR 16s and 17s and the AR10...love them all.  The only thing my AR10 is lacking at the moment is a good scope as is my 17s...both are on my "to do" list, :)   I don't have any FNH handguns though...closest thing I have to their 45 is my HK45!
  23. Probably not...of all the things Zimmerman appears to not be guilty of, the one thing he does seem to be guilty of is lousy choices in women.
