If you can point out specific references of where you or others were called names why don't you (why didn't you) bring it to the attention of the moderators and let them look into it? I would think they would like to know about it.

This isn't about whether the family/Duck Commander has enough money to live on...it's not about the show (although it's not the typical "reality" show you incorrectly assume)...it's not about homosexuals or what any one person's opinion is of the homosexual lifestyle. What it's about is Hollywood/TV networks bowing to political correctness and a tiny minority of people who MIGHT have been offended (by remarks not even made on the show but for magazine article) and seeking to quash diversity of opinion and thought. It doesn't matter whether anyone agrees or disagrees with what he said regarding homosexuals (in answer to a direct question)...what matters is that is this county has lost the ability to allow people to hold different opinions then we've really lost something that made this nation truly great. A&E has every right to run their network the way they want and I and every other consumer has the right to tell them to go to hell.

I suspect that I've participated in most of those threads and while some probably were called "homophobes" and "bigots" I suspect it was for cause and not just because someone disagreed with the homosexual lifestyle or thought the lifestyle sinful.
-
It's one thing to be opposed to/disagree with the homosexual lifestyle...many, including me, believe it's a sinful and immoral way of life. But holding that opinion is NOT, I don't believe, what has prompted the "castigation/name calling" you refer to (although I really don't think there has actually been much of that here). Where many draw the line is how some people respond to homosexuals as deserving or even especially deserving of revulsion and even outright hatred.

A&E kicked him off Duck Dynasty and I'm kicking A&E off my television and out of my living room. I surely hope the rest of the family refuse to do the show any longer and that THE BLAZE network picks them up.

I used "All My Son's" when I moved to my current house...they are great people. When I moved to Tennessee (gosh...over 17 years ago now) I packed everything myself then hired "2 Men And A Truck" to load the biggest U-Haul truck they offered...drove it to Tennessee and had the local "2 Men And A Truck" unload me!

Hopefully it will work out for you. I've thought about buying a new home the past couple of years but I really don't want to go through the trouble of moving. I moved so many times early in my life (military and then work) that I almost had it down to a science but it's still a pain and one I don't really want to go through again. I think the next time I move it will either be to a houseboat or a large RV in which I'll live out my remaining years (with the added benefit that such would require me to get rid of a lot of STUFF that I don't really need or in many cases, even care about any more)!

That's okay...with your failing memory in about five minutes you won't remember why you are pissed and five minutes after that you won't remember being pissed at all LOL -
Many years ago, right after I got out of the Navy, my wife and I rented a nice little house in our hometown...the owner only wanted to do a six month lease, although she assured us she would renew it or at least give us plenty of warning if she wasn't going to. As things happened to work out, the lease was up at the end of December that year and guess what...about the 15th of December she finally told us she wasn't renewing the lease and she expected us to be out of the house by the 31st. In other words, the little bitch lead us on...she was afraid that if we knew she wasn't going to renew the lease that we would check out before she was "ready". Well...we spent that "Christmas" looking for a place we could rent an more into in less than two weeks. Three was some poetic justice however...that was a VERY cold December that year (this was in Ohio by the way) and we took the utilities out of our name effective the day after we moved out which was prior to the 31st...the landlady knew we had moved out. However, it seems this landlady didn't bother to put the utilities back into her name quickly enough so electric and gas actually got physically turned off...for those who have lived where winters actually get cold you know what can happen to water pipes in an unheated house in December/January. ;) Needless to say this lady wasn't very happy but it was ultimately her fault and her problem...I didn't feel sorry for her for some reason! Anyway...I hope it works out for you and that you either get to stay where you are or that you find a great place that you can afford!

Amen...we need to get rid of public schools both because they are soft targets for terrorists (of all stripes) and because we, as a country, need to abandon this concept that everyone should get an education at the public's expense. I'm all about education and its importance but it's not the public's responsibility to provide it or pay for it; it's the parents (while the children are still children) and each adult's responsibility to pay for themselves once they've become adults. As I've suggested many times here, get your kids out of the public schools; either home school (preferable) or private schools. While there are some truly good, wonderful teachers who have their heads on straight they work in institutionalized idiocy and political correctness that glorifies socialism, re-writes history and and teaches anti-capitalism and anti-individual rights and liberty.

It's too bad I can't think of something clever to "FIX" in the above...then again, I guess it wouldn't matter since it wouldn't bother you anyway. ;) -

If it's someone I know well here on TGO or outside of TGO and they want to make a joke at my expense that's one thing. When it's someone who I don't know at all and who doesn't know me at all that's different - when it comes to what I say or write, I do get upset when I'm purposely misquoted or when my words are completely changed and still presented as my words. It's important to me in any medium but especially so on an internet forum when what we write is the only way to express one's self. I understand that doing it apparently doesn't bother most people here and If it doesn't bother you that's fine. -

It didn't need to be fixed and I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't change something I said and pretend they are my words. Moving on... He explains in the article (and I'm beginning to wonder if folks here actually read the article before posting comments) his reasons for making the announcement; reasons that seem pretty logical to me because despite the fact that some here don't know about the show/hasn't watched it/don't know who has competed in it, in the larger firearms community these men (and women) are fairly well known. Given that, I can understand why he made the announcement. What's really important here, in my opinion, is that that he was a great competitor on the show who acquitted himself very well and he's totally outside the "norm" of "gun guys" (being "gay" is only one way in which he breaks the stereotype) which I think is a good thing for the firearm enthusiasts community overall as the more people from all walks of life/lifestyles who become firearm enthusiasts the better. -

He was a great competitor and one that few on the show took seriously if I recall correctly. It doesn't matter to me if he's homosexual or heterosexual; he's a darn good shooter and competitor. -
GOOD! :)

I liked the original "Billy Jack" movie; I think I've seen it once or twice since it was in the theaters and not all that long ago. I've always liked "One Tin Soldier"...great song. Tom Laughlin seems to have been a decent guy although politically I doubt we would agree on very much.

Road rage incidents usually require threatening and/or stupid acts on the part of both parties involved. I get "cut off", "boxed in", nearly run over by assholes running RED lights and suffer other idiotic acts by stupid, inconsiderate or totally clueless drivers...the best thing I can do for my own mental health (and blood pressure) is to get on with life.

Dave, I agree with your sentiments...with what you are seeking. The problem is that what you seek simply isn't possible because what you really want to do is stop evil and that's impossible. It doesn't matter what steps are put in place or how much money is spent...you could place an armed SRO with every single student...provide Secret Level 24/7 security at every school for every student and while you might slow evil down you will never stop it...you'll never stop it for the same reason why there will still be murders and other violence if you destroyed every weapon of every kind that currently exists and ban the creation of new ones...evil will find a way to do evil things. I'm truly sorry that this incident happened just as I'm sorry that any other mass shooting has happened...just as I am anytime an innocent person is killed or severely injured because of the evil actions of another but I also know that I can't stop it. I carry a weapon for SD...I try to be aware of my surroundings...I've got great, mufti-level security at my home with plans on what to do based on possible scenarios but I'm under no illusions that I would always be able to stop the bad guys even though I'll try to do so..try to survive...or at lest take them with me when I go. I could wear body armor 24/7 (well almost) and drive an armored vehicle whenever I left the house and it still wouldn't be a guarantee. There are probably things that could be done to make schools a more difficult target but as long as they exist and as long as evil exists they will continue to be targets and evil will still attack them and find ways to circumvent or mitigate whatever society does to try and thwart their plans.

Let's say your were challenged? So what? If you were there to shoot up the place would being "challenged' even slow you down? Even airport level security isn't going to stop anything unless you are going to set up a big perimeter around every school with plenty of armed guards so that any shootout happens "outside" rather than inside.

Sad. Negligent Discharge kills man in Colombia.
RobertNashville replied to billyscott's topic in General Chat
The word "usually" was a poor choice on my part. All I was trying to say was that it's possible to violate one and often even two of the four rules and NOT have a negligent discharge. I'm not saying anyone SHOULD nor advocating that anyone do violate any of the four rules at any time but yes...I can you absolutely can and not fire the weapon. Simple example - I can take a weapon that I've not made save (by unloading it) and assume/don't know if it's loaded or not (violating rule no. 1) then, point it in an obviously unsafe direction (violating rule no. 2) - at that point I've violated two of the four rules. However, there will be no ND so long as I keep my damn finger off the trigger. Should I violate any of the four? ABSOLUTELY NOT - I don't and I've never suggested otherwise; if that's how my initial post came across that certainly wasn't my intention! The real point of my initial post was that there is more going on with this story than simply pointing the firearm in an unsafe direction. -
That's fine...but again I ask, how exactly are you going to prevent it? Do you want to turn schools into maximum security prisons??? It's all well and good to say no one "should" get in school with a gun but that's like saying no one "should" drive drunk; but both will continue to happen.
