Last heard Owl Hollow was closed??? In any case, remember that original purpose of this meet was for the folks in the "Northern" areas of Middle Tennessee and I'm not sure that the Franklin area (if that's where Owl Hollow still is) fits that bill does it? It's Ok by me either way...the purpose is to get together and have some fun!

I'm somewhat familiar with escheat and related laws (although it's been quite a while since my business law classes) but I've never really heard of them applying to property, like furniture (and especially essentially worthless furniture) abandoned by a tenant...I thought that, if it was covered at all it was covered by specific landlord/tenant laws.

Aren't there any landlord/tenet laws in Tennessee or at least in the community where this occurred that specifies who owns what when a tenet moves out and leaves stuff behind? I mean...is the landlord just expected to store the stuff indefinitely? Anyway; goof for your Dad...I really hate it when lazy, lowlife scum get anything out of their frivolous lawsuits.

Hey my friend...didn't see this thread until now either! Next weekend, as part of my TN State Guard duty I'll be with around 12,000 scouts at a regional event here near Nashville...if there is anything specific you need for these guys let me know and I may be able to pick it up for you.

I just do not (and frankly don't want to) understand situations like this. Your brother should be confined, whether a regular jail cell or a mental hospital; he is obviously a danger to society and himself; the fact that he is free to walk the streets is a travesty and points out how utterly ineffective our system of justice can be at times. I also stunned when I hear how relatives (parents, siblings, etc.) who are the victims of crime are unwilling to do what needs to be done and prosecute the criminal...the sad thing is that I hear similar stories almost every day because I often counsel people who are in debt. I know that in most cases, these victims/relatives are well meaning and, they think, acting out of love but the sad thing is that enabling criminal behavior is not a loving act at all. As to your actual question (and I am NOT an attorney) as I understand the law, the key to a successful claim of self defense is that you are in fear of your life or great bodily harm (or the same to an innocent/family, etc)...based on what you've said in this thread I think you most certainly have more than sufficient reason to be in fear of your life or of great bodily harm should you brother ever come near you.

Amen. Just because a person has a right to be armed and even a permit to carry doesn't mean they should carry.

I'm sure it would be an expensive proposition. I guess my point is that I don't see that providing this training video is necessarily a state function in the fist place - that maybe this is something that the private sector should do and is better equipped to do for itself.

I agree but then again, things worth doing well or that takes talent usually is expensive. Most good firearms are pretty expensive and the HCP classes, although I'd say are generally reasonably priced, aren't exactly what I'd call inexpensive! Moreover, whatever it might cost the private sector to do it, I'm sure the state of Tennessee spent more!

Perhaps we are thinking about this backassward. Most of us know that there is very little that the government can truly do well and almost never as well as the private sector. So...perhaps the answer is for some enterprising guys/gals (perhaps HCP instructors) and interested parties (gun shops, gun ranges, etc) to get together and do their own, first-rate and legally ACCURATE video. Given the talent for video production in this state it ought to be possible to do a very professional production. Then; take the finished product to whatever bureaucrat in TN state government has the power to approve such things and ask him/her to approve it for use in HCP classes. If nothing else, perhaps the video could at least be used to give people taking the training some accurate information.

I would consider installing one or more security cameras on your property; they aren't that expensive anymore and can be a big help should any of these low-lifes actually do anything. And yes, absolutely file a police report....start building a record about what has happened.

If we do it on a Saturday (which seems the most likely to me at this point going by the voting) then I would suggest perhaps around 11AM to give everybody time to get there and maybe have a good breakfast on the way. If Sunday, then I would say as soon as they open (1PM). As far as your question about a place closer, I know of several indoor ranges scattered around the Nashville area but I don't know of anyplace that offers what MCSC does (there may be some but not that I am aware of)...for me personally, I'd always rather be at an outdoor range if the weather is decent so for me, MCSC is a hands-down winner in that regard.

First up is Millie the basset hound. I've had Millie since she was 8 weeks old; she is now just over six (as of 8/31). Then comes Maxwell (Max for short). Max was a rescue from the local human society here in Murfreesboro. He is also positive for feline HIV. We don't know how old he is but we think around 8 or 9 years old now (I rescued him in the spring of 2006). Finally; a pic of the two together doing one of the things they do best; nothing at all!

One of my best friends is being transferred to Fort LostInTheWoods (as it's known) to be an instructor (MP)...he just got back from his fourth deployment to Iraq late this past spring. If I can talk him into it maybe he'll join us form some shooting...last time I was at MCSC was with him and a couple other guys from the base.

I agree that permit holders not being aware of the current laws is disturbing. Then again, if these people aren’t actually carrying than I suppose it’s a moot point. I also subscribe to the thought that no only do good people have a right to be armed; they have a societal obligation to do so for the greater good of society. How many horrible incidents of criminal gun violence might have been stopped completely or at least cut short by one good person with a firearm! As for me, I have at last one weapon with me everywhere that it is legally permitted either on me directly or off-body (depending on circumstances and what weapon I’m carrying). Unfortunately, there is a lot of my time that I cannot carry because my employer, by policy, doesn’t allow firearms on the property; even in the employee parking lot secured in a safe in the vehicle (something I hope we can change soon by legislation). That said, I’m not sure that a HCP holder not carrying is a problem…after all, having the right to be armed and even having a state issued permit to be armed is not a requirement to be armed. I know I’m stating the obvious here but making those kind of choices for ourselves is part of what a free society is all about isn’t it?

It's simple; he's a Republican because he says so and the Republican party says so and that's the way it will always be until enough honest to God conservatives can take over the leadership of the Republican party. Far too many of the current Republican party leadership; national and local, are just as corrupt and just as hungry for power as any Democrat is - once they get there it ceases to be about doing what is "right"; it simply becomes a matter of either gaining or retaining power.

They have 50, 100 and 400 yard rifle ranges...is that long enough for you??? I know I can't go on either the 16th or the 23rd (both are Saturdays); not that my being there is necessary; I was just trying to get something going...of course, it's very early in the voting at the moment!

I realize it can be a bit far for many in the "Middle Tennessee" area; it's about 80 miles for me one way. However, I think MCSC is one of the best I've ever been to and the roads I take are more than enjoyable enough all by themselves. The reason MCSC was suggested was because it was some folks up in that neck of the woods who wanted to try and have a meet.

Based on this thread ( http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/events-gatherings/46672-any-northern-mid-tn-meetings-ever.html ) I decided I would start this one to see who in Middle and/or Northern Middle Tennessee would like to meet for some fun shooting. The proposed place is the Middle Tennessee Shooting Complex ( Montgomery County Shooting Complex ). I'm assuming most will want to either use the pistol or the rifle ranges but note that MCSC also has ranges for shotgun, and skeet, trap, sporting clays, five-stand and even archery if that's what you are looking for! For myself, I'd prefer a Sunday outting simply because my Sunday's seem to be a bit more "open" than most of my Saturday's but whichever is best for you, please vote in the date selection poll and let's see if we can get together!

It was my understanding that active duty military didn't have to take the class but I've never heard that a DD214 would do so???

There were some interesting stats presented by Bob Pope (hope I have the name correct) at the last TFA (Nashville chapter) meeting on the 20th. - he has compiled all the primary vote counts by county for Haslam, Ramsey and Wamp. When you combine the votes cast for Ramsey and Wamp into one total, Haslam lost every county except two. In other words, had the vote not been split between two conservatives; Haslam would not have won the primary. Of course, how you keep candidates from running is a problem - Tennessee needs a runoff system for any race where a candidate does not get 50%+1 of the votes.

Even though I live quite a way from MCSC (I live in Murfreesboro) I use it quite often - It's a great facility and I've always enjoyed using it. I'd certainly be "up" for a meeting there...how about someone post a poll to pick a date and let's try to get together before cold weather sets in!

Don't make the often made mistake of confusing "Republican" for "conservative"! Haslam is most certainly a Republican but most certainly NOT a conservative (even though he'll say all day long that he is both). Haslam only became "pro-2nd Amendment" when he decided to run for governor. About the only, and I do mean ONLY thing that makes Haslam a slightly better choice for governor, at least where the 2nd Amendment rights are concerned, is that Haslam is a bit less likely to veto good, pro-firearms legislation that McWherter would be or than Bredesen has been.

Actually, I can't make it on the 16th either as I'll be in Knoxville for a car show I'm entered in.
