When is enough enough?
RobertNashville replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I can agree that while it could work, I wonder on what basis do you suggest that there would BE mass, peaceful, organized non-compliance? I don't see such organization happening...and while you may not I'm sure there are plenty of LEO, SWAT, other branches of law enforcement who would go door to door if that is what they were told to do. -
I don't think anyone needs to turn into an attorney on the street; in fact, I think doing so is incredibly stupid; the court room is the place for attorneys to argue the law. On the other hand, I'd say that being polite, to never consent to a search and basically keep your mouth shut is usually the best way to go when stopped by police...if I've actually broken the law then it's likely they are going to ticket me or arrest me no matter what I say or don't say or whether I consent to a search or not.

Why assume that the two major party candidates are both just different degrees of "terrible"? I call that a false assumption or at the very least, an assumption made on no facts since we aren't even talking about any specific candidates or races. I've met many candidates, both Republicans and Democrats (both in office and running for office) in Tennessee who are good, decent, God-fearing, moral people who believe in the Constitution and unalienable rights and I could (and have) voted for such in good conscious because even though that candidate and I may not agree on every issue we DO agree on the important, basic things. I didn't say anything about "wasting a vote" but I'm not going to vote for someone who cannot win. A "better option" that can't win isn't a very good option - if he/she truly wants to be a "better option" then he/she also needs to be a viable one which means that he/she is going to have to build enough support to actually win. If your better option does than then I'll happily vote for him. -

Another relatively rare occasion when you and I agree. I cherish my God-given rights as much as any one; I may even be willing to face certain death to defend them and such as defense could, perhaps, be reasonably called "a lawful act of self defense against tyrannical agents committing acts of violence against an innocent citizenry" but in the end it wouldn't make much difference because I would still be dead and I seriously doubt that my "sacrifice" would benefit anyone, including me. I don't know if we (the country) can still change our fate with the system the founders put in place...it may well be too late, but that system is still the one best hope we have, I believe, to set things right. -

I know where you are going and I'd say you were dreaming. ;) But yes, I'd vote for such a better option if he/she has a REAL chance to win the election but if they don't then I'm not going to vote for them. 99.9% of the time either a Republican or a Democrat is going to win in a general election (which is what I was really referring to above) and I'll vote for one or the other unless, as I said, some other candidate has a real and legitimate chance (and not just a hope) to win. -

I can tell you this, I won't vote for Haslam for gov again...as to the other offices I can vote on it will depend entirely on "who" is running...if it's a Republican who has gone along with the Haslam clowns then I'll be voting for the Democrat. Things were clearly better for the TN firearms community when Republicans were not in the majority (or at least not in majority in both houses and the governor's mansion). -
There was one old rooster that was pretty damn smart (or I was just pretty damn dumb)...when I would be out harvesting or getting ready to replant for winter I'd see that rooster every day EXCEPT for the days I actually brought my shotgun with me! I'd bet that bird died of old age. LOL

I grew up hunting pheasant and rabbit in Ohio; I can still hear the sound they make when they are spooked out of the grass and take to flight. Yes, pheasant is good eating...seeing that picture brought back some good memories!

My point was that the current administration is not courting them which they should be - if Remington or any of other firearm related manufacturer decides to open facilities in Tennessee it will be more in spite of the current administration than because of it. Haslem and his lapdogs will certainly give lip-service to wanting them and will no doubt take credit should any decided to open facilities but Haslam, Ramsey, are Harwell are not friends to the firearm community (beyond saying what is necessary to get elected).
-
It must be...it's a shame we don't live in such a state! Haslam and the clowns (Ramsey and Harwell) certainly aren't going to do anything to bring firearm manufacturing jobs to Tennessee which is a sad commentary on the patron state of "shootin stuff"

Sorry Sears, but we need to start seeing other people
RobertNashville replied to NoBanStan's topic in General Chat
I haven't actually shopped at Sears in many years but this was still a ad story for me to read as I have a lot of good childhood memories of shopping at "Sears" and some of the things my family purchased there. Heck, I still have the toolbox and most of the tools my folks bought me for Christmas on year when I was a kid (around '65)...I've bought many tools since then but I still use the ones that I got for Christmas so many years ago because they still work! Sadly, what you experienced at Sears is not a disease that only Sears is suffering from. -
What Lever Action Rifle to get and what caliber.
RobertNashville replied to Sonny's topic in Long Guns
I've owned a Marlin 30-30 and it was a great gun...I currently own a Henry (22LR). Frankly; I don't think you could go wrong with either manufacturer. As to caliber that's really dependent on what you want/intend to do with it I would say...if this is for hunting then you likely need something with at bit of punch. As was mentioned before, a handgun caliber (that you already own) can be a big plus! :) Browning makes some interesting lever-action rifles that would fit within your price range. I've never owned one but I've always had good service out of every Browning I've ever owned and I would say are at least worth taking a look at. -
Can you believe the state of CT gun owners?
RobertNashville replied to serbu50's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I think you are painting with an awfully broad brush. Yes; everyone should do what they can to protect their rights (assuming they care about them in the first place) but everyone also has to decided what is best for them and their family; maybe that will be staying and fight or maybe that will be leaving to find a better place to live. I see the process as being no different than deciding whether to eat or not eat at a particular "posted" restaurant...the right decision for one person may be wrong for another. Once a state has reached the destination of NY and CT I think it's probably time to get out because I suspect they are much too far gone to be saved...better to let them wallow in their own liberal sewage. -

I stand corrected. Unfortunately, regardless of fault...the problem is that the filibuster rules changed. :( -

Unlike the "dirty pot smoking hippies" who are likely either living off mommy and daddy OR our tax dollars, most gun owners/people with a brain actually have to work for a living so I don't think most of us can do what they do. I've been to DC for a number of tea party related (and not related) events and protests too and I donate/belong to just about every pro-2A group out there as well as several conservative groups and I would encourage everyone who actually cares about their rights (beyond posting about them here and on FB) to do the same. Check out the NRA, GOA, NAFGR, USCCA, Freedom Works, Senate Conservatives Fund and others. To be blunt, however, I believe we are fighting a losing battle...I'm not saying we shouldn't fight but I'm not all that hopeful about the outcome; not after the 2012 election. I still have a slim...very slim hope for this year's mid-term elections but I think the experiment is done and that people's greed, laziness and general immorality has won out over such concepts as charity, the golden rule, the value of work and freedom. -

Yuup and with Obama still in office and the rules of the senate changed (thank you RINOs) the Supreme Court is likely to be chuck full of liberal/progressive/"the Constitution is fluid and we should look at the laws of the rest of the world when we make our decisions" members by the time these 2A related cases work their way to the high court. -

I have no desire to become an instant felon but I also understand the importance of the right to keep and bear arms. So, in the short run I would be finding some place to store all my weapons legally out-of-state and out of the hands of Connecticut's law enforcement agencies. I would then, concurrently, be looking for a place to live where the legislature and the people still have some common sense. I fully realize the difficulty of moving to a new state and finding a new job and all that goes with it but I did exactly that 17 years ago when I moved to Tennessee and I would do it again today. I also realize, that I might only be delaying the inevitable but better that than becoming a felon by not following the law or following the law and eventually losing one of the foundational elements of being a free man. -
Stupid me-don't open the door for ANYONE
RobertNashville replied to Erik88's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
There was a time when putting up with people selling something door-to-door was just an inconvenience but those days are long past. Today if anyone is actually selling something door-to-door it is almost a guarantee that the "product" is either stolen, sub-standard or overpriced (or all the above) OR that you are dealing with potential home invasion and/or home robbery (someone scoping out your home on the pretense of selling something). Either way, the only people I open my door to at night are LEOs or those I've invited over and are expecting! Glad nothing bad happened here; count it as a learning experience/reminder. :) -
I don't agree. There is no way to know/prove it now of course but I believe that Republicans could have won in 2008 if they had put up a great candidate...I had to hold my nose to near the point of suffocation to vote for McCain and if I had to do that I'm sure there were a lot of folks who would have voted for a Republican ticket that either didn't bother or voted for Obama simply because of the choice we had. Further, I believe that Hillary Clinton will be elected as the next President of the United States in 2014; showing that as disliked as Obama is right now; the same party's nominee can get elected even following an unpopular president of the same party. I'm going to do what I can to ensure that doesn't happen but I have no illusions about the chance for success.

I'd say the problem is the round ball ammo (or shot placement). ;)
-
After carrying a 1911 for many years (including as my military side arm) IMAHO the Glock 30 is the all-around best carry pistol - a really nice combination is a G30 for on-body carry with a G21 for off-body/in the vehicle (since you can use the full-sized magazines from the G21 in the G30 and two guns are always better than one!). 1. A Glock is damn dependable; it will send a bullet down the finery death hole just about every time you pull the trigger (I'm not saying they never hick-up but round for round, they are simply dependable) 2. They are simple to use 3. They are likely what the cops in your area carry (which can be important should you ever be on trial following a SD shooting as is using similar ammo) 4. They are accurate (especially at normal SD shooting range) 5. They are relatively cheap (cheap is an important consideration because if you are ever involved in a SD shooting you are likely going to find your weapon in police custody for a while and I'd rather have a $500 Glock being held than a $1,500 1911 (or an $800 1911 for that matter). The fact that they are cheap also means I don't worry if they get a nick or a scratch or holster wear or anything else that would bother me with a 1911 or similar, more expensive pistol. To each his own of course.

ARs and AKs are old news and discussions should be relegated to the "collectibles and curios" area. That the only rifle worth talking about today is the FNH SCAR - maybe we need a light Vs heavy discussion??? ;)

Really? I'm surprised that there is any firearm forums left that would allow him to become a member considering how much trouble he's caused on every other one he's posted on.

Really sorry to hear about your loss...having just lost my little girl in October I know much too well how it feels...I still tear up when I think of her. I think we can take a lot of comfort in the knowledge that we provided these four-legged family members a good, loving home.

I guess Mr. Tree would have been a better president? LOL Those were our only two choices after all and I've seen nothing in the years since that would cause me to change how I voted then. I'll take GWB...a man whom I believed truly loved his country and loved and valued our military men and women any day and twice on Sundays over a socialist America-hating community organizer.
