  1. At a minimum, what has been happening in Wisconsin has drawn a very clear distinction between the two very different and incompatible philosophies of the conservative/libertarian mindset and liberal/socialist mindset regarding how government and our economy is supposed to work...between liberty, freedom and personal responsibility and those who believe they are "entitled" just because they haven't assumed room temperature yet. The cowards who have run away rather than to their job shows just how truly vapid the liberal/progressive/socialistic mindset is.
  2. Quite simply, unless a property is properly posted per Tennessee State law, there is NO criminal offense for you carrying while at work. As has already been stated, however, an employer can most certainly fire you based on your violation of company policy (not that an employer truly needs much of a "reason" in a right to work state; assuming of course that they aren't violating EEOC/discrimination laws). I work for an employer that does, as a matter of company policy, even allow us to have weapons anywhere on company property, including our vehicles...frankly, I hope some version of the current "parking lot bill" gets passed). In the meantime, I don't carry to/from/at my work. That said, if I truly felt the need to carry on the job just to be safe I would also be looking for another job (fully understanding that often isn't easy to do, especially in a struggling economy). Especially sad about Wal-Mart is that they don't even seem to want employees to be able to defend their own lives even when they are in intimate danger (given a recent news story)...I can understand you carrying to protect yourself but given their attitude, I certainly would never risk my life to protect their money/property.
  3. Just F.Y.I. - I paid $3.31/gallon for Premium (after a $0.10 Kroger discount) at a Kroger gas station today.
  4. After a few more range sessions I've started to see a pattern. At the range, I use the "law enforcement" type of target which has the "black" silhouette of a man with scoring zones - I usually augment these at center mass and the head with "Shoot-n-See" round targets (saves a lot of time bringing the target back just so I can see where I hit!). Also, for comparison/sake of consistency purposes, I've been limiting my practice specifically to 7, 15, and 25 yards. At distances of 7 and 15 yards, I'm seem to do a pretty good job of "point and shoot" type shooting - I wouldn't call my groups "tight" but they are not bad (at least I don't think they are) and it's rare that I lose a round outside of the "Shoot-n-See" target zone at either center mass or head (even when i do they are usually well inside the overall target zone). After practice now, I seem to do almost as using my sights with my left eye closed. Trying to sight with both eyes open is still an issue for me.. Practicing more at 25 yards I do, find that my shots are better placed using my sights (again, left eye closed). I've no idea if my experience is "normal" or not but I do think some good instructions will be helpful...I've never had any significant instruction shooting a handgun except for the military so I guess it's well past time for me to get some.
  5. I've been watching that show as well...can't say it turned me into and AK fan. I had my first opportunity to shoot an AK last fall...I'm glad I got to do it but I'll happily stick to my SCAR!
  6. Unfortunately;I cannot attend on the 19th as I have an obligation that day (Tn State Gard drill)...I hope you'll do this again sometime.
  7. There are certainly some very fine firearms out there at reasonable prices than can double as both a "fun" target shooter as well as a carry weapon...the Glocks are certainly one of those. That said, before I bought anything you aren't familiar with I would (as you've already started) rent one and shoot with it and see what you really like. If you were closed to Nashville/Murfreesboro I'd be happy to go to a local range with you and let you shoot some of mine....I'm sure there are some TGO members in your area who would do the same. I guess what I'm saying is; don't rush into a purchase...take your time...figure out what you really like...maybe if what you really like is just a "bit" out of reach then save for a little while and then get what you really want. I've owned as Sig (P220) and it was a truly excellent gun so if that's what you want then get it even if you have to wait a while...also keep your eyes on the firearms classifieds here on TGO; there are always good deals to be had here.
  8. Anytime you want to meet at the Nashville range let me know and I'll try (emphasis on "try) to hit a few pigeons with you...I'm also a member of the Cedar City Gun Club near Lebanon and non-members are welcome any Saturday (I think you can come as my guest anytime but I'd have to check on that). Also, if you are into cars at all, you may want to check out this thread: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/events-gatherings/53857-2nd-annual-spring-cruise-clay-pigeon-shoot-april-23-2011-a.html
  9. Is there any time that additional training isn't a good idea??? Congratulations to the son (and to the parents as well) for refusing to be a victim...it's too bad this piece of trash is still alive but at least the family is still okay and relatively unharmed. I bet if we look into it that this thug has a long relationship with law enforcement yet was still on the street, free to ply his trade.
  10. I have rifles, shotguns and handguns...I love shooting all of them and each have their place.
  11. I'm definitely interested too depending on the date (I'm a social butterfly and my calendar fills up quickly ). You might look into the Stones River Center (I don't know for sure what their classroom/conference room situation might be but it could worth checking out. 12. I believe (no stats to back me up...just a feeling) that there is someone out there who is only somewhat known but isn't on a lot of the pundit's radar yet that could come in and not only take the nomination but take the election as well (and I too would like to see Sarah on the ticket again or at least utilized in a Republican administration). However, perhaps even more influencal could be the economy, if we still have one by then...a truly bad economy could spell disaster for the Dalai-Bama.
  13. I'm not an attorney nor an expert in the law in any case but I believe for any such item to be transferred it would have to go through the exact same process as if it were a stranger transferring (giving/selling/etc.) to another stranger. I believe the way many families take care of this problem is with a partnership/trust type of vehicle so that the death of one member of the group doesn't impact the other member(s) in that all are equal owners...there are attorneys who specialize in setting up this type of arrangement (and please forgive me if I'm not getting this 100% correct; I went to a seminar on this very topic about a year ago )
  14. I don't think that there is any question that dogs, especially "big" or at least "big sounding" dogs can be a significant deterrent to a would-be robber. The kind of guys that worry me are guys like the desperate meth-head you mention...the ones who just don't care and will break in anyway and hope for the best. Quite a different world we live in these days from what I remember as a kid...we often didn't lock our cars our our back doors and I don't remember anyone getting robbed or their car stolen....that was the stuff of Dragnet and big cities like LA or New York.
  15. I understand your position...I simply do not agree with it and no matter how many different ways you say it you'll never convince me that staying home or voting for a non-competitive candidate is the answer.
  16. The Second Annual Spring Cruise and (clay) Pigeon Shoot! Sponsored by the Middle Tennessee Z Club Middle Tennessee Z Club with much appreciated help from the Montgomery Shooting Complex! CARS, FOOD, FRIENDS & SHOTGUNS; Enough Said! Calling all certified car nuts who also love things that go bang - we are doing it again this year (weather permitting of course); not only is it back by popular demand but I didn't win best shooter of the day last year and I need another chance. I'm ready for spring and I'll bet you are too - this is a perfect excuse to get your baby out of the garage and your other baby out of the safe and have some fun with both (yes, this is being put together by the Middle Tennessee Z Club; representing all generations of the Datsun/Nissan Z sports car, but if you love cars and driving and enjoy the camaraderie of some friendly competitive shooting this is an event you’ll enjoy). Whether you are an experienced clay target shooter or have never shot a shotgun and whether you are a guy or a gal, you can have a lot of fun at this event – no one needs to feel “left out†and there will be some basic instruction for those who are totally new to the world of clay pigeon shooting. Of course, you can bring your own shotgun but for those who need it, appropriate shotguns will be available for loan; ammunition and other items available for sale. WHEN: Saturday, April 23, 2010 WHERE: Montgomery County Shooting Complex TIME/SCHEDULE: We'll meet sometime around 9AM - meeting location and definite time will be posted soon. We'll meet somewhere on the NW side of Nashville to travel some incredible (fun) back roads to the complex and we should be done by mid-afternoon(around 3PM). Trophies will be awarded for “Best Shooter†of the day. "Runner Up Best Shooter" of the day and a special award for for “Least Threatening to Clay Pigeons†(all based on hit/miss count). COSTS: (these are approximate and subject to change) Range fee: $5.50 Fee per Round of American Skeet: $5.00 (we’ll likely get in three rounds) Ammunition: You’ll need one box of 25 rounds per round of skeet; they sell on site for $7.00/box or, of course, you can bring your own. Gun Rental: NO CHARGE! The complex is COMPING our gun rental (usually $20/gun) for those who need one. Assuming three rounds of skeet total cost will be approximately $42.00 PLEASE RSVP! 17. I couldn't disagree more...the last thing the Tea Party needs to do is become a third political party. The Tea Party movement's greatest is that it's a grass-roots movement populated by folks with a common interest in seeing America return to common sense. The moment it becomes a "party" it will both lose its effectiveness and likely guarantee that Democrats, and likely the most extreme end of the party, remains in control until the America most of us wants truly doesn't exist anymore except in history books (that haven't been re-written). The best chance for success in restoring our country is in restoring the Republican party to what it CLAIMS it is and believes in (but in many cases hasn't been)...if given a clear and well-defined choice, I believe (at least I'll continue to hope) that a majority of people will vote for freedom and liberty and less government intrusion rather than the socialist, spreading the wealth around pseudo-democracy that the Democrats now stand for. Of course, what do ti know...I'm just an old fart holding onto my guns and my religion but I do hold a degree in Public Administration (similar to Political Science) and I have stayed at many Holiday Inn Express motels.
  18. I've been avoiding this thread somewhat simply because as a certified car nut, talking about $5/gallon gasoline is really depressing. However, it's Friday...nice outdoor shooting weather predicted for tomorrow so I'm in a good enough mood that I think I can talk about it without getting too depressed. Predicting the pump price of gasoline is akin to predicting what interest rates will do...there are so many variables that almost any prediction is as "good" ans any other. I'm reasonably sure we'll see prices hitting or even exceeding $5/gallon by late Spring/early Summer (in other words sometime in June of this year) and I've already decided to curtail a planned 7,000 mile Route 66 trip this year that I had been looking for (this would have been my third trip on the old route) and will wait until next year and hope for the best. Where it goes after that is truly a crap shoot...with Obama and his ilk doing everything they can to curtail drilling and making us even more dependent on foreign oil as well as what seems to be an outright assault on our economy; I, unfortunately, wouldn't be surprised if gasoline hit $10/gallon (assuming it's available in the first place) within the next 12-18 months.
  19. "Take It Easy"; Eagles Not only is it a great song but it's the song I play as I enter Winslow, Arizona on Route 66 (where the is a corner dedicated to the song)!
  20. Hence the Tea Party and those who identify with it in spirit...the Republican Party is being pulled back to its roots by conservative/libertarian minded folks. In many cases, the "establishment/big tent" Republicans are doing everything they can to retain power and placate conservatives while giving up nothing. Which side will prevail is very much undecided but, while some here seem to want to give up and surrender, others are pushing on. Maybe we'll fail, maybe we'll won't but the one sure way to fail is to withdraw from the fight..
  21. I will and I would even without your totally unneeded permission. Now, how about answering the question you left out of the quote (which I'm sure was just an oversight) about your whining about being the "new guy" when you've been a member of the forum for three years???
  22. Anymore? Are you implying that it ever did???
  23. I keep waiting for you say something remotely correct but I suppose I'll have to keep waiting. By the way, you've been a member of the forum for three years...how are you the "new" guy here? What you really are is a Also, claiming one has "plenty of friends" is like a vice president claiming he has an "open door policy"...if you have to claim it, you probably don't.
  24. Generally, as soon as someone refers to me as "dude" I discount anything they have to say by 25%. Anyway, it appears that life is so hopeless for you that the only thing left for you to do is find a cave and hide in it. Of course, by refusing to be part of working toward a solution you are automatically part of the problem.
