I'm tired of it, sick and tired
RobertNashville replied to KKing's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
What exactly does someone have to do to "stand up for our (your) rights? If standing up for your rights mean that I have to hold the same opinion about open carry as you have then it isn't going to happen. -
"Net Neutrality" is a bad idea and not the way the free market is supposed to work. Those who use the internet more/use more bandwidth (such as for watching movies, etc) should be paying for that bandwidth. Of course, we all know that Obama and his ilk think internet access is a constitutional right...it's probably included in Obamacare somewhere.

RobertNashville replied to KKing's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well...I'm sick and tired of idiots who open carry and DO cause problems or who do so for the PURPOSE of causing problems. The problem with open carry is that is not open carry itself but the undo and often negative attention it can bring to the whole community of those who go armed for their own protection meaning it isn't all about you and your decision to OC or not OC.. I'm never going to tell someone they "can't" open carry if they are following the law but I'll damn sure speak about how I feel about the issue overall. -
I'm not so sure this works...by that I mean, I'm not so sure that permit information is tied to vehicle license tags and especially so when it's an officer in another state. Certainly they can run the plate and (assuming it's a private vehicle and not a rental, etc) get the name and address that goes with the tag and then maybe figure it out eventually (assuming MD has access to FL permit data). Seems like a lot of effort just to see if someone might have a permit! Anyway, my point in posting this story, aside from the obvious, is that it illustrates something I've been saying for a while which is that many of the LEOs coming out of academies in recent years are not "gun friendly" or not pro-gun in the hands of "civilians"...these younger LEOs haven't been raised around firearms and may not even like to shoot their own service weapons. I don't think many would do what these guys did; at least I would hope not, but I suspect we'll see more of this in the future.

Given what we currently know I can't see how this shooter is not guilty of murder. Maybe the facts will change and if they do then fine but I don't see a lot of ambiguity here or anything that would possibly justify the use of deadly force (or even less than deadly force for that matter).

Sig 1911 Scorpion Carry TB, best deal in a while!
RobertNashville replied to Stainless's topic in Show and Tell
I have a Sig Scorpion Carry and I really like the gun. I think for the money Sig is one of the best in terms of quality for the money spent....you got a great price by the way; I'd never part with mine for that little! ;) -
I haven't see the actual bill so I may be way off base here but I suspect that this bill has nothing to do with being able to carry in every State but rather, would make the need for reciprocity agreements between individual States unnecessary. In other words, any state that does not already issue carry permits would not suddenly be required to do so, only that states that do allow carry would have to accept all other State's permits just as they now must accept other State's driver licenses. That said, I'm not in any way in favor of this approach...it's sounds nice from a distance but I do not want the federal government deciding whether I can or can't carry a firearm in Tennessee - only Tennessee should make that decision if there is going to be a decision (i.e. permit process).

I'm aware of them and I've had some pretty heated discussions with a couple of members (the discussions didn't do anything to engender the party to me) but it really doesn't matter nor is there is there a reason for me to look into them because I don't give a rat's *** about "party"...ALL I care about is finding candidates that share my core principles or at least enough of them that I can vote for them with a clear conscious. To that end I'll for a Democrat, a Republican or anyone of any party or no party!
-
I'm just not sure I see a need for this...it may not hurt anything but is it truly needed? There is hardly a state I travel to or ever want to travel to/through that doesn't already my TN HCP and while we have it better than other States, that seems to be a "State" issue to me; not one that the federal government should solve. If the federal government wants to make things better than how about getting rid of 99% of all federal gun laws! ;)

True but it's also true that the Libertarians also have to put forth a candidate that those people can, in good conscious, vote for. I've yet to see a Libertarian presidential candidate that I could, in good conscious, vote for and that is truly a better choice than the other candidates...maybe in 2016.

New DOJ suggestions for school punishment
RobertNashville replied to jacob's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I don't disagree with your assessment. For me, however, the real issue is not this particular policy but the overall impact of having bureaucrats at any level (but especially the federal level) dictating to schools what they must teach, how they must teach it and what their policies must be. If there are going to be public schools they should only exist when parents come together to form a school for their children and other than, perhaps, being required to show progress though occasional testing, should be left alone. That won't ever happen of course. -
This is why Midway will never get my biz again!!!!!
RobertNashville replied to serbu50's topic in General Chat
I've used Midway now and then; never had a problem with them. While their shipping policy/prices is discouraging I've always gotten what I wanted and pretty quickly. I'm suspecting that instead of a "company policy" about filling back orders it's more likely that the OP simply rant into a idiot clerk. That doesn't let Midway off the hook completely as it's still their fault but I wouldn't blame them for the policy until it's confirmed that it really is their policy. If it isn't their policy then I'm sure the higher-ups would like to know who this clerk is. -
New DOJ suggestions for school punishment
RobertNashville replied to jacob's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I guess I don't understand why it's not possible to use a chrurch-based system but, in addition to what that church believes and teaches, teach your children/child what you personally believe...show where your beliefs diverge from the proscribed material??? Without doing my own in-depth study of a particular church based program I've no way to know how much of a problem this is for folks in your position but it seems to me that it would be a small component in that teaching academic, factual information is neutral as far as religion goes. -
I'll be he can at least produce a verifiable birth certificate!

I am most definitely not a Libertarian/libertarian and, unless they change I never will be. There are many issues on which they and I can agree but on the ones I don't agree with I will never agree with and they are too important to me to ever compromise. I am also not a Republican. If I'm forced to classify myself I am an unapologetic conservative and independent of any party.

Good question...personally I haven't heard his name mentioned very often but that could change. What I know of him I like but I really don't know all that much about him...that said, I think he is at least worth taking a look at (assuming he is even interested).

New DOJ suggestions for school punishment
RobertNashville replied to jacob's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I don't know how to answer the religious issue because I don't know what religion you are talking about. I'm not a follower of the straight path so of course I would not follow an Islamic religious course of instruction. However, I'm having a difficult time imagining that the religious differences you have with any of the common faiths represented in the U.S. is quite that extreme. As to the LEA question it's moot in my case...as I indicated to DaveTN in an earlier post, homeschooling was not yet in play then in any significant way. -
In 2012 it would have been okay with me too...but no longer. Slightly better than the liberal/socialist candidate on the other half of the ticket is no longer good enough for me especially if they are dead wrong on those couple of issues on which I will not compromise.

I'm not looking for a unicorn...I'm not looking for perfection because no one can or will be perfect but I refuse to believe that there are no honest men/women in the world...people of strong character with a strong moral compass who are/could run for public office. If there truly aren't any more with those qualifications then all the political and philosophical things we passionately argue and converse about here...all the campaign contributions...all the hours spend working for and supporting a candidate are a complete and utter wast of time. If your assertion is correct then the only logical thing for any of us to do is to disengage and shore up our own lives for the pain that is coming. I'm not looking for perfection but I will not punch the voting button for candidates that don't meet certain of my expectations...there aren't many issues that are so important to me that I won't vote for someone (even if they are great on everything else) but there are a couple of those issues and I will NOT vote for such candidates who take the wrong position on one or any of those few issues.

New DOJ suggestions for school punishment

I don't know what tenants of your faith is so specific or unusual that none of the church based systems can work for you...or why you can't still use them but teach to your own specific personal beliefs?? But, that sort of brings me to my next point... As I was reading your post it occurred to me that regardless of whether a curriculum is "dictated" by the local school district or not, I don't believe they can keep you from ALSO teaching the truth and the facts as you know them to be true. Then, from Tennessee Home Education I found information that seems to suggest doing exactly that and they say that the LEA cannot dictate curriculum "Registering with the LEA is free. The LEA cannot dictate curriculum, can't require you to have them approve it, doesn't provide curriculum, can't inspect your home or your child's schoolwork, and probably won't give you much help in homeschooling at all. Your child will be required to be tested in 5th, 7th & 9th grades" SOURCE: http://tnhomeed.com/Start.html I'm not saying your understanding of the law is wrong - I truly don't know but at the very least I'd check out this group (if you haven't already) and/or an attorney who is familiar with the laws in TN regarding home schooling. -
Memphis renames city parks that honored Confederacy

Where; because I don't see them either in office or running for office.
