Haslam signs law restricting Internet pictures
RobertNashville replied to Worriedman's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I think we just need to outlaw everything since "living" seems to be dangerous to our health...while we're at it, why don't we just go ahead and make "crime" illegal - that will stop all the crime and then none of us will need those nasty, evil guns to protect ourselves! -
Haslam signs law restricting Internet pictures
RobertNashville replied to Worriedman's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It's a shame that there probably aren't any legislators in our state legislature who will even understand your letter; much less act on it...if they had ANY common sense at all they would have never passed this ridiculous law (or many other equally ridiculous laws). I sent a letter to many of our state legislators and Gov. Haslam after the close of their activities this year because of, what I believe, is an extremely disappointing session for gun owners in particular and conservatives in general after DECADES of so-called conservative Republicans pleading for voters to give them control...not a single recipient has even acknowledged receiving my letter much less responded to it...I suspect your letter will receive a similar lack of response. REMEMBER in NOVEMBER! -
This seems like an impossible question to answer...I've made it a point over the past few years to acquire some of the firearms I've always wanted and discard the others that I really didn't want that much (not that the discarded ones were "bad" firearms but simply that there were others I wanted more and I don't have an unlimited budget or space for such things). I would say my overall favorite is a Colt Series 70 1911 Gold Cup National Match that I've had for most of my adult life and will NEVER sell - it's one that I hope will always stay in the family. Beyond that, I like...actually REALLY like the other firearms I own with the exception of a couple that I own for more "utilitarian" purposes.

Might I kindly suggest that for those who want to support our World War II vets (my father was one as was several other people who have been part of my life); please consider getting involved/donating to the Honor Flight...Music City Honor Flight site can be found here: Music City Honor Flight It's a great cause I think and worthy of our support...I've given a little and plan to give more and am considering being a participant to help those vets who go...I'm also sure that they would be appreciative of any size donation.

I suspect that there was a lot more to it than that and the actual "offending" post was removed (it would seem) so we can't see what the fellow actually said. In any case, we would all do well to remember that an internet forum like this does not guarantee that you can say anything you want to anyone you want...what can and can't be said and what repercussions happen is 100% up to those who actually own the forum (and those they appoint to run things day to day). This guy is certainly free to join any other forum he wants that will have him or he can start his own. A while back, I was banned from a forum just one week after the two owners had praised a thread I had started...I was banned because they and I simply didn't see eye to eye on the Bush and then the Obama bailouts of GM and Chrysler...I wasn't happy about it but I never felt the need to re-join with a different account and then rant/rave/call everyone names...life goes on.

Another stupid law passed by stupid legislators signed by a stupid governor...but of course, I'm unnecessairily repeating myself aren't I. -
Frankly, I don't see how connecting the HCP to a vehicle license tag is of any benefit to anyone...the people police officer NEED to be concerned with (and whether there is a weapon in the vehicle) are not the law-abiding HCP holder but the folks (meaning criminals/thugs/etc.) who carry without an HCP...those who carry specifically to do bad, illegal things...such folks don't get HCPs even if they could qualify for one just like they don't go to FFL dealers to buy their illegally possessed weapons.

Thanks but I know how to use Google. The concept of a cloture vote was an invention of Woodrow Wilson (not a great claim to fame for the process in my opinion). I understand that cloture ends a filibuster but I believe that if you check, you won't find the filibuster being used to stop Presidential appointments until fairly recent times; the filibuster was used to stop debate on bills, not appointments and in any case, what passes for a filibuster today and what a real filibuster is are two different things. Just because a socialist President and a bunch of pansy-assed Senators changed the rules doesn't make it right or appropriate and there is nothing honorable or worthy of support in keeping a nominee from being voted on regardless of "who" nominated him/her...it's wrong when the Democrats do it and it's wrong when the Republicans do it.

See what happens to a gun safe in a fire.
RobertNashville replied to KahrMan's topic in General Chat
Could well be either server settings (such as if you are accessing from a corporate network, etc.) or setting you have on the PC you are using (security settings you may have changed even without intending to)...in any case, the video is there. -

Safes, security systems, smoke detectors, etc., etc. are all tools..aids to keeping ourselves and our possessions as safe as possible..it seems to me that disparaging any of them, separately or in combination, because they don't provide an impenetrable shield to harm is a bit foolish. I have a good safe; a good alarm system (with a fire detection system connected to it); I have a disaster/evacuation plan (which doesn't need to be all the elaborate since it's just me and my dog and my cat)...I also once had to call my FD as a precaution and they arrived in less than five minutes so I'm not all that far away from help should I need it. I also have good insurance on everything including a large personal property policy specifically on my firearms. That said, I'm not operating under any misconception that any of these things are perfect or will always protect me from loss...there is always a "risk"...the providence of God and a bit of fate in the mix. -
Lack of support kills HB 2021, parking lot bill
RobertNashville replied to Sky King's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Keeping a self-defense firearm in a vehicle parked in a company lot is, of course, the major issue for most people since it means HCP holders have to be unarmed not just while at work but everyplace between home, work and anywhere else they need to go before returning home. But, as you point out, these policies affect other people/activities as well. For me it's skeet shooting...not being able to take my shotgun and gear and leave it in my car makes going home, getting to the range and back additional 100 mile trip but more importantly, I can't even do that in time to participate in the fun shoots my club does during the week. Of course, such policies affect hunters and other sportsmen as well. My employer made their "no firearms" (even in vehicles in the parking lot) policy change abruptly and after having been in operation with zero incidents for many, many years before the sudden change...I can't help but wonder why the change (not that it makes much difference...the policy is the policy). -

I like my Les Bare Thunder Ranch - probably my best 1911 even though not the most costly. I had no idea that's what he was talking about (assuming that was what he was talking about) - I wouldn't be at all surprised if there wasn't more than a few institutions that could go by the initials "TR" -
Not all copy machines are made by Xerox but a lot of people call any copy machine they deal with a "Xerox" machine...referring to cell phones and their ilk as "wireless" may not be precisely correct but so long as everyone know what is being discussed (and I think everyone here does know), the difference seems pretty immaterial to me.

Actually, Apple IPhones track you, retain that information and you cannot turn if off (at least that's my understanding...they haven't been all that forthcoming about the specifics or even why they put it in their phones in the first place). As for other "smart phones", I do not believe that you can do anything to stop yourself from being tracked by your phone if a government (and with the cooperation of the provider(s)) decide to track you; regardless of what is or isn't "turned on". I'm not suggesting that government agents routinely track the general population...just discussing the ability.

Clarksville Woman Chases Off Home Invaders
RobertNashville replied to guyver60's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
My only regret in this story is that she missed and these two worthless thugs, if they aren't already, will likely be out on the streets soon to rob (and God knows what else) some other innocent wife or daughter. -
Observation on the classified section here at TGO...
RobertNashville replied to gregintenn's topic in General Chat
Shipping problems aside, unless I'm dealing with someone I already know, I don't really want to sell a firearm or buy one from someone without a face-to-face meeting. Gut instinct isn't perfect, not by a long shot (no pun intended) but I won't buy or sell from/to anyone I don't feel comfortable with and you can't know much about someone when dealing with them strictly over the internet/shipping, etc. Anyway, if I'm buying something I really want, I don't really mind driving a ways to get to someplace convenient for us to meet! -
Good for Texas! But the killers don't have to worry , our campuses here in Tennessee still welcomes the nut-jobs with "assault" Glock 19s to do their killing here...we should all write a nice thank you note to our worthless Republican legislators and governor for the "wonderful" job they've done for us this year.
-
Of course not...he doesn't need them; he's got Tim Geitner (sp?) to cover his re-election campaign expenses.
-
I'm not sure this is a bad idea. My problem with the government and "cell phones" is the ability to track were you are as well as a history of everywhere you've been in some cases. Living "off the grid" is both looking more attractive AND more difficult to accomplish all the time.

Tactical Response - Fighting Pistol
RobertNashville replied to RobertNashville's topic in Training Discussions
I didn't know that there was another group that goes by the "TR" reference; good to know! Thanks. I'm planning on going to the Alumni weekend this year if I can possibly make it but I doubt that I'll have the time to do any other courses with them this year as I've already have several other things scheduled (not to mention my otherwise hectic schedule!)...the next courses I take from them will likely be the emergency action medical and "the Fight".
