  1. If that is an actual and accurate question and answer then Ron Paul is an idiot and must NEVER be allowed to be President!
  2. My Uncle's was laid to rest last Friday...half the town turned out for the viewing (four hours and still long lines when it was supposed to be over) and the sanctuary was filled on Friday for the funeral and burial. The pastor of the church was my Uncle's best friend growing up - it was, I think, as difficult for him as for any of the family. Christmas Eve afternoon I took my brother and nephew to a very nice range in Springfield, Ohio...spent nearly three hours there. My nephew immediately gravitated to the "brand new 10 year old" Para Ordinance 13-45...I let him fire the first shot and about 150 rounds more with my brother and I taking turns now and then. At the end of the afternoon I told him that I was going to teach him how to take it down, clean it and put it back together....at that point is when I told him it was his Christmas present. I only hope that the small thing I did for him will be something he will remember all his life. It's been both a sad Christmas but also one of the best ones I can remember, at least in a long time. Thanks again to everyone for their kind thoughts, and prayers...I'm on my way home now and will be back in Murfreesboro by late evening.
  3. I hope we get the bill and I'll start writing. That said, I have no real hopes that this RINO legislature (especially the Speaker) nor this governor will do anything get such a bill through and will, instead, do everything they can to quash it quietly so that they don't have to openly put it down.
  4. At least we can have confidence that ALL CRIME IN NEW YORK CITY has been eliminated...I mean it has to have been eliminated, right? How else could Bloomberg have time to worry about crime everywhere else???
  5. That sounds really noble...is pretty noble...until you realize that all that gets you is the WORST of two evils. More to the point, none of the Republican field is "evil"; the problem most of us have is that the ones who are the most conservative (and who's views are the most like most of our views) aren't getting traction and until a real conservative both runs and gets traction we are going to be left with wimps like McCain and Romney and the like. That said, there isn't a a single Republican on running that isn't head and shoulders better than Obummer any day of the week and twice on Sunday so I WILL vote for whoever is the Republican nominee because voting for Obummer or voting third-party will only move this country further toward socialism and dependency.
  6. Best to beat Obama? I doubt it; more likely the worst of the lot in terms of a mtach-up against Obama. I'd vote for RP if he had the nomination, however, I have two big problems with him... 1. His foreign policy 2. His refusal to state that he WILL not run on a third-party ticket should he not get the R nomination which would all but guarantee a second term for Obummer.
  7. For me it’s pretty simple… Massad Ayoob (arguably one of the best trainers/firearms experts in the country) advises that if stopped and you are carrying, hand the officer you carry permit along with your driver’s license – that’s an easy and very “non-threatening†way to let the officer know you may be armed. Beyond that, while TN does not, many states require you to inform the officer if you are carrying – I travel and I don’t want to have to remember what the state I’m currently in happens to require so informing the officer just seems like the easiest way all around.
  8. I'm sure RP can handle his own fights.
  9. You know...for your first 1911; I'd buy something basic...reliable...not too expensive; there will always be expensive ones out there later. I own quite a few 1911s and most of they are the expensive to quite expensive; I love them or I wouldn't have them but I think there is something to be said for a good, basic govt. model; $495 or so should get you out the door with a nice one.
  10. Wow; sitting here in my hotel room in Ohio; glad to be back where I grew up but wishing it was just for Christmas as usual. Reading some of your posts have brought back a lot of memories; my first BB gun (it was a Daisy but not a Red Ryder)...the first shotgun I ever had was a bolt-action .410 just like was mentioned here...then a single shot 20 ga Savage. I also remember G.I. Joe, the Rifleman, so many other TV icons; all of which played a part for me and my interest in firearms. Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts and the memories you've invoked!
  11. Well, I think this is one of those times that "how you got here" is less important than the fact that you DID get here.
  12. Maybe not for all but probably most of us have that "someone" in our lives who played a big part in inspiring our interest in/love of firearms. Often, that's our Dad's and my dad was a major influence for me...I spent many a fall day out in the fields with my Dad hunting rabbit and pheasant. However, the biggest influence on me in fostering my love of firearms was my Uncle Butch. Butch was much more of a brother to me than an uncle...seven years my senior; he and I were closer in age than my actual siblings and I (my brother is 10 years younger/sister is 15 years younger). And, for most of my childhood (until my high school years), my parents and my grandmother lived in adjacent houses so we were always "together" during the day/summer school vacation, etc. Butch also had a lot to do with my passion for cars (I'll never forget the day he brought home a cherry red '67 GTO, tri-power...white interior and the engine "chrome package" - I don't think I've ever seen a car that was more beautiful! He was a positive influence in other ways as well...he was the first in my family to EVER go to college; I was the second...he became a pharmacist; served on our county's school board and raised a great family. While not perfect, he's always been a good role model for me. He is one of the reasons I'm trying to pass my love of firearms to my nephew this Christmas ( http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/want-buy/65998-basic-reliable-relatively-inexpensive-1911-christmas-gift.html ). Just a little while ago, I got a call from my sister telling me that Butch has passed away from a heart attack. I guess I'm posting this because I need to...I guess also just a reminder that we should all remember to thank those in our lives who have had a positive influence on us anytime we get a chance because eventually, there won't be any more chances. I hope everyone has a great Christmas and New Year and I hope you take the time to thank those in your life who have made your life special.
  13. Just FYI, cleaning the coil/getting rid if dust in general can have a huge impact on a fridge....with enough dust; they will "run" but will never cool the interior. Doesn't sound like your problem this time but good info for the future!
  14. Your first mistake was being in WalMart! I always try to have a flashlight with me; at least in my briefcase if not on my belt and there have been a number of times that I was very glad I did!
  15. To all who do and to all who have worn the uniform of our nation. "We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting we don't have, but rather, of recognizing and appreciating what we do have" - Frederick Keonig
  16. I'd be interested in knowing how it works for you as well....I've had a few Kimbers and have had good and bad experiences with them (although mostly good) so I'm eager to see how this does for you!
  17. I never bother to compare non-stock cares...it's a waste of time...I know many Z owners who's cars are putting down 600+ RWH so yes, they are faster than me (and the spent at least twice the cost of my car to get there) Once you start modifying there are only two truly pertinent questions: 1) how fast do you want to go (or how much HP do you want), etc, etc.? and 2) how much money do you have to spend? The answer to No. 2 will of course, dictate the ultimate outcome
  18. Oh if that were only true...what they are really saying today in many cases is that "we don't have they money or the institutional fortitude (i.e. balls) to keep you in jail for as long as you really should be in jail. One of the reason we have so much violent crime today (and why we need to carry) is because our legal system keeps letting dangerous people back out onto the street.
  19. Right; maybe with an LS1 stuffed in it but not stock it wasn't. 20. Actually, there are a number of places where they can get a state issued ID free ( Clerks issue free photo-licenses for voter ID law | wbir.com )
  21. Nissan NISMO 370Z; no...NOT FWD
  22. I don't know that I'd go that far. He may and his equipment may be just as capable as he describes (although I'm not sure I buy the "thousands of hours" on the track comment) - the problem is that he either doesn't understand, refusing to understand or just doesn't care that the driver and the vehicle is only part of the equation when looking at what speed is actually safe and the tradeoff between speed/risk. I DO understand where he is coming from because I've been there...my current toy is a two seat sports car that can do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds/0-120 in 19 seconds, the quarter mile in 14 at 104 and has a top speed (governed) of 157. The car is bread for high performance driving; especially twisty/road course type driving...I KNOW how tempting it is to cruise along at 90+ or even into triple digits. BUT...I have at least grown up enough to know how truly dangerous that is and grown up enough to not drive that way anymore on public roadways which is why I autocross and participate in other racing events where it's done in a controlled environment.
  23. I would say that there are three basic types of people who just "hang out" in the passing lane... 1. The stupid (who probably shouldn't even be behind the wheel 2. The distracted (cell phone users, etc.) who may have needed to be in the passing lane FIVE MILES AGO!, and 3. The self-appointed who believe that they have a civil duty to curtail "speeding" (usually any speed above what THEY feel comfortable driving). On the other side of the coin, there are more than enough jerks out there who think that the guy doing 75/80 in a 70 zone AND is actually passing slower vehicles should find a way to move over (even if it endangers others) just so the jerk who wants to do 90 doesn't have to wait 20 seconds for them to complete their pass!
  24. I'm sorry to hear about what happened to you - I know that a lot of folks are on public assistance (of some kind) through no fault of their own. I freely admit that my suggestion many seem harsh; even will be harsh on some. I'll also freely admit that I haven't thought through all the finer points of how, exactly, such restrictions would be put into place. That said, I do believe in the concept that if you are getting some sort of direct aid from the government and/or if, when the dust settles, you aren't actually paying federal income taxes (i.e. you are getting welfare through tax "refunds" of taxes you never paid in the first place) then you shouldn't be able to vote while getting that assistance. It's pretty simple in my mind (which is necessary for me)...if you aren't helping to pay the bills (i.e. paying income taxes) then you shouldn't get a say in who the bills are paid to or how much. While times were different, I think that's at least somewhat in line with how our founders looked at things as well.
