  1. Well, I can't speak to all armory locations but the Houston Barracks is the headquarters and has multiple/varied buildings including the main command center for TEMA. I don't know that entry is as restrictive as, say, Fort Campbell but entry is definitely controlled.
  2. In all the years I was there I never heard of a single incident; doesn't mean there never was one but I think I'd have heard if that had been. Anyway, no explanation was ever given and on the couple of occasions that I asked I god dirty looks for even asking. I always assumed it might have had some relation to the headquarters moving from Los Angeles to Franklin since the change in policy happened at "roughly" the same time but that's just a guess. I sucked it up, followed the rules and just recently retired from Nissan and I now have my retirement pay plus a better job with better pay at an employer who doesn't restrict my ability to provide for my own protection on to/from my office.
  3. I'm not sure thy can't detain you until a LEO would arrive; in any case, it wouldn't be them I would be worried about...it's my CG.
  4. Unless you ask in an interview you'll almost never know company policy until after you've accepted the position and even asking might mean the offer doesn't come at all. Yet, sometimes it's even worse than that... Nissan, after some 20 years of having no problem with firearms in vehicles in their parking lots, suddenly did a 180 a few years ago (about 2005 or so I think) and forbid, as a matter of policy, all firearms on their property including in employee vehicles. Lot's of guys would go hunting after work, skeet shooting or just to the range, etc. and had been for a couple of decades and suddenly, a total policy change. In that situation, "finding another job" isn't a very good option when it means you may lose years of retirement pay (or wind up not qualifying for any retirement pay at all).
  5. I don't think a basis is required except that you are "asking" to enter an a military installation - even years ago when I was active duty Navy I've had a vehicle searched entering base and I suspect things are "tighter" today. Now; of all the many, many, many times I've passed through the gates at the Houston Barracks I've only had my vehicle searched a handfull of times but it does happen.
  6. Actually; given the current "Republican" leadership, the chance of any firearms related bill (good, bad or otherwise) making it to the floor for an up/down vote in either chamber is almost nil. The only way we'll see improvement for the firearms community in Tennessee this year is if supporters of a bill burn up the phone lines of all the senate/house members.
  7. Exactly...while workplace incidents happen, the real potential for danger for the vast majority of us is the commute to and from work.
  8. I'm not sure if what you posted is what I've been made aware of but I believe there are two separate bills (that do separate things) in the senate and companion bills introduced in the house; at least, that's according to the NRALA alerts I've received...at least according to one person I trust, they are pretty good bills (I haven't had a chance to read them myself yet). ___________________ Tennessee: NRA-Drafted Employee Protection Legislation Introduced House Sponsors Still Needed for Companion Bills – Please Contact Your State Representative Today The 2012 Session of the Tennessee General Assembly is underway. On January 25, Senate Bill 3002 and Senate Bill 2992 were introduced by state Senator Mike Faulk (R-4). These NRA-drafted bills would prevent employers from discriminating and enforcing policies against the storage of lawfully-owned firearms in employees' locked private motor vehicles parked at work. SB 3002 would recognize that hard-working Tennesseans’ right to self-defense does not end when they drive onto their employer’s property or into publicly accessible parking lots. It will allow firearms to be stored out of sight in a locked vehicle. SB 2992 is a Firearm Discrimination Prevention bill that would protect law-abiding gun owners from anti-gun policies by employers across the state, including forced firearm registration, random vehicle firearm searches, and “gun zone” parking lots for gun owning employees. SB 2992 coincides with SB 3002.
  9. My vehicle has been searched at the Houston Barracks...just saying.
  10. Old Fat Guy (you really don't have to be either old or fat) Large leather belts, hand tooled belts, web belts, buckles ,womens, funny t shirts, large belts, long belts, large and tall
  11. Not sure which armory you are referring to but to the best of my knowledge, yes...no personal weapons allowed on the post; at least not without a lot of pee-arrangement...I do not carry at the HQ Houston Barracks in Nashville.
  12. I saw a show last fall by the same name and I think it was on NG channel...if it's the same show I'd say it was handled very well; in fact, I still have it on my DVR. I wonder if this is a re-broadcast of the same show or a new one with different people highlighted???
  13. The TSA is out of control but I don't think we needed this incident with Mr. Paul to show that. As for the fourth amendment; we've had the TSA for what, eight year or so? Has anybody sued them for violation of the fourth? If so, what's been the outcome? Anyone can call anything unconstitutional but it we have a proscribed method to address such thinks; until someone uses that method nothing is going to change.
  14. One thing I know, if negligence is involved, no amount of signage or a stack of signed releases is going to save the one who was negligent.
  15. If you want to consider what he did (or didn't do) as "draft dodging" so be it...I don't see it that way. I don't really care if he showed up in a hoop skirt and high heal heals...either he qualified for deferment per the rules as they existed at the time or he didn't. He got the deferment which tells me he met the rules to get the deferment...that's the end of story for me. The Vietnam war was unlike any other this country has ever engaged in and I fully understand why young men of that time didn't want to go. I reserve my distain for those who ran away; not for those who successfully used the rules to avoid going and I say that as someone who volunteered and enlisted while Nam was still going on.
  16. He wasn't drafted because he received an in-school deferment as did many young men of his age. I don't have a problem with people who play by the rules as the rules existed at that time. Had he fled the country; then maybe the term draft dodger would apply but calling someone who went to school, even to avoid being drafted to fight in what I'm sure you know was a VERY controversial war is the same as calling a wealthy man, like Romney for example, a tax dodger simply because he uses the rules as they are written to not pay any more in taxes than the law requires. I think we should save our disdain not for those who seek advantage by breaking the rules; not for those who follow the rules..just my humble opinion of course.
  17. I've had exceptional service form Direct TV...they are not perfect but none are. On those occasions when I've considered switching to Dish I always got the feeling that they felt they were doing me a favor if they let me be their customer (plus it looks to me as if their channel selection, especially HD/3D just isn't up to par with Direct. I will never again use the cable company...I'll go back to rabbit ears before I do that. The new service offered by AT&T is interesting but not available in my area yet!
  18. Just like you have to have good people run for president before you can vote for them, a "leader" of any movement must want to take on that responsibility. I love both those guys but I don't think they want to lead a movement. Of course, maybe they just haven't been asked???
  19. I didn't say he was...my point was that I don't and I'm not going to feel sorry for any member of Congress that gets caught up in the rules and regulations that the rest of us normal people have to live under, whether or not the particular member had anything to do with enacting the legislation/rules/regulations. So??? I didn't see a need to go into detail about the precise evolution of the TSA or its rules or its policies or how those rules and policies are carried out/interpreted by individual TSA goons (supervisors or peons)...Congress created it; the rules followed then the policies then the interpretation and actual administration of them...that's usually how it goes; that process doesn't make the rules/policies/interpretations any less enforceable. I know he's been a critic but other than the irony of him having a problem with the TSA I don't see why that makes any difference. His actual motives are known only to him...I wouldn't be surprised if he did this to give his daddy something to sink his teeth into - from what I've read, RP IS using this incidence as a fundraising tool so maybe that was the real motive??? I applaud him for not seeking to use his special privilege (although I don't think politicians should have special privileges but I guess that's another topic). That said, it doesn't change the fact that I think this whole incident is just the proverbial tempest in a teapot and that the story has gotten far more coverage than it deserves which is really all I was saying above.
  20. Why? As far as I know, there is not rule against owning Glocks, revolves and 1911s (and if there is then I'm breaking the rule!)
  21. After you check them out, if they don't have any numismatic value I may well be interested in just buying them from you depending on just how many (how much silver) you have...I was just getting ready to buy some more junk silver anyway.
  22. I still don't see what all the fuss is about...I think we all know and have known for a LONG TIME that the TSA is out of control (not to mention inefficient, ineffective and and a few other things I could say)...this is but one of many, many, many examples of the idiocy that IS the TSA. Moreover, I'm not going to spend one moment feeling sorry when some member of Congress (either house) gets caught up in the nonsense laws and rules and federal bureaucracy the rest of us have to contend with every damn day.
  23. I don't think people are "riled up"...he was being commented on because a link to him was posted above. In the video, from his comments, he is a 9/11 Truther. Now, everybody is free to think what they want but I won't wast my time listening to someone I consider a moron.
  24. Well, anybody is allowed to believe anything they want.
