I don't know how old your Kimber is but it's my understand that Kimber stopped using external extractors a few years ago and went back to internal because of the type of problems you describe...I guess Kimber just never quite got it "right" with their external design. However, that's not to say that you can't make it work well using the tips already provided.

homeowner with warning sign on front door killed
RobertNashville replied to Erik88's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I agree...putting up a sign like that can seem attractive but in the end, I'd rather a potential bad guy not know what they are going to face if they come through my door. -
Gun control ad to air during Super Bowl
RobertNashville replied to FJCrusing's topic in General Chat
One more reason not to bother watching it....I've got better things to do than watch two football teams I don't care about slug it out it what is usually a boring game even when I do care. Most to the time, I only watcher for the commercials but you can watch most or all of them ahead of time now. -
FBI Uses Chainsaw In Raid On Wrong Fitchburg Apartment

These no knock warrants need to stop and need to stop NOW by all law enforcement. Risks to innocent people are too high and the rewards to LE are too low to justify doing this. -
Constitutional Carry Act of 2012
RobertNashville replied to strickj's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
"Constitutional Carry" is an issue high on the TFA's list of goals for Tennessee. It would not do away with the current permit system (for state reciprocity reasons) but would essentially allow anyone otherwise legally able to own a handgun to be able to carry it within TN without needing to get a permit to do so. -
Yeah...good for you...good luck with that (and if you ever do shoot someone in a self-defense situation I think you'll need all the luck you can get given what you've said here). I would also say that your anarchist avatar fits your attitude.

No reason for folks to get mad at each other...I think many are saying the same thing; just not the same way. Obviously, in a self-defense situation you are going to aim center mass because that gives you the best chance to hit the bad guy and because that is where most of the vital organs are. It's pretty logical to assume that if you do happen to hit that target one or more times there is a high likelihood that the bad guy will die. But, our INTENT should be to stop the threat; not KILL the threat. The result may be identical but our intent shouldn't be. As I understand the law (and I claim no special knowledge); anytime one person kills another it is a homicide; whether it's ruled a murder followed by charges being filed or not will depend on the circumstances and I think that the line between just a homicide and a murder can be pretty thin...how we describe our INTENT could be what pushes it one way or the other (which is likely why any decent attorney will tell you to keep your mouth shut in such a situation other than to say that you were in fear for your life).

I disagree...if there aren't rules of language and meaning there can be no communication between two people. If I say I'm a "native American" (and I am) it doesn't mean I'm American Indian.

"Gay" has meant different things but is has not not meant "homosexual" forever. The word "gay" did have a "sexual" content for a long time but it didn't really gain wild-spread use to describe homosexuals until the mid to late 1950's; even then it was generally only used to describe a male homosexual...it didn't really apply to female homosexuals until later. I would suggest it's the activists in the homosexual community that has truly co-opted the word; almost to the point that that referring to a homosexual as a homosexual is considered a derogatory term! I guess I have this thing about words...I don't like them being misused, especially when they are misused for politically correct purposes...i.e. using the worg "gender: instead of sex or "native American" instead of "American Indian", etc.

Employee Safe Commute (Parking Lot) Campaign
RobertNashville replied to Worriedman's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I got the same reply...gee...I thought he wrote it just for me. The ones I wonder about are the ones who won't bother to respond! -
Wow...a bit of discussion since my initial post. I admit that making sure there is only "one" bad guy is important; however, I wasn't assuming any info not presented in the narrative. I would also say that should I ever be put in a position to need to shoot an intruder in my home late at night/early morning, I'm probably going to keep shooting until I know for certain that the intruder is no longer a threat and assuming I have any decent aim at all, medical treatment will probably be a moot point. Finally, whether someone would chose to give aid to the bad guy or not is totally up to you and your conscious...that said, and this is just my opinion of course, as some of you have mentioned not having medical training, etc....I would suggest that if one has decided to arm himself, especially for self-defense purposes, then being proficient with emergency medical care and having a real medical kit to treat gunshot wounds/serous injuries, is almost as important as being proficient with your firearm. Should any of us ever be unfortunate enough that we have to shoot someone there is a strong likelihood that someone will need medical attention...it could be your child...your spouse...the bad guy or YOU.

I would try to aid the man as much as my knowledge allowed; it's simply the moral thing to do. I am assuming, however, that he truly is no longer a threat, and since I live alone, I would have to be VERY sure the man longer posed a threat. Having a "wife" in the picture who, hopefully, knows how to use a weapon should she need to; might make me feel more secure in helping him.

If it's okay to demand a person leave because of his remarks/beliefs about "gays" and "aids" is it equally okay if I own a restaurant and I demand that someone leave because they are "gay"? I wonder how the "gay community" would like that??? On a side note, I hate that homosexuals have co opted the word "gay" and completely changed the meaning.

Employee Safe Commute (Parking Lot) Campaign
RobertNashville replied to Worriedman's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Already sent mine! -
I didn't point it out because I didn't know; thanks for posting. However, my primary concern is an opinion piece that is presenting the opinion Of the Tennessean that, IMAHO, goes beyond just offering an opinion I disagree with but actually contains outright lies. I can stomach a "different opinion" but I don't stomach a different opinion supported by lies and misrepresentations, especially on an issue as important as this.

LINK: Untraceable gun buys lead to high body count | The Tennessean | tennessean.com My lord, I complained about Brian's piece on private sales at gun shows...Brian sound's like a radical pro-gunner compared to the drivel and even outright lies contained in the above article. What a bunch of pure B ovine Scatology.

I think the lesson to be learned here is that you can't really expect a lot of expertise at a gun counter in a large "box" store; even one that caters to "sports"...you may get experience and expertise but you probably won't find it very often. The other lesson is that good "customer service" is hard to come by and it seems to be in smaller and smaller supply the bigger the store. Years ago, in the book "In Search of Excellence", the author noted (paraphrasing here obviously) that "anybody can give excellent customer service; but few do". On a purely personal note, while I might look at a firearm in a big store like Academy, etc....when it comes time to buy, I think it important that firearm enthusiasts support the local stores dedicated to supporting us and our passion/sport/hobby.

Who Inspired Your Interste in Firearms?
RobertNashville replied to RobertNashville's topic in General Chat
You are right, a good bullseye hit or a clay that turns to dust is a beautiful thing and one I don't see nearly often enough; especially with regards to the clays! -
I was just three weeks into a brand new job...I remember the day very well. I also remember a couple of years ago seeing the memorial to the Challenger at Arlington National Cemetery in D.C. Two of the astronauts are buried in Arlington; some of the unidentifiable remains are buried beneath the memorial at Arlington. That memorial is one of those things at Arlington that you just "need" to see when you are there.
