What condition one carries in will not negate stupidity on the part of the person carrying. That said, yeah...condition 3 might be "safer" than condition 1 or 0 but then again; remember WHY we carry; to be ready to face a threat! I do believe that if someone is very well trained and very, very fast they can load one into the chamber and be ready to engage a BG almost as fast and maybe even as fast as I can be ready to engage while carrying with on in the chamber. But, I'd say the folks that fall into that very, very fast category are also very, very few and far between. You may be one of those very, very fast folks...but I know I'm not one of them so I'll continue to carry with one in the chamber ready to go.

AMEN. The best confrontations are they one's you can avoid by being aware of what 's going on around you and I'd say that the OP did exactly what he needed to do...we should all hope we can do as well.

Yeah...that might make a difference.

It seems to me that many of the arguments about OC and CC often seem to degrade into one is "better" than the other and I simply don't see why it should be that way. I am sure there are times when some potential BG may see someone openly carrying and decide to look for an easier target so he goes another way and you many not even notice that this decision by the BG was going on. I'm equally sure that there are times when a BG is absolutely going to go ahead with his plans and will purposely take out anyone he sees as a threat, i.e. somone openly carrying. But it doesn't end there...a person may look like a threat because of his age/size, or because he is openly carrying or because he has a fighting knife discretely (he thinks) clipped inside his pants pocket and I would also include those who carry "concealed" but might as well have a neon sign on their head calling attention to the fact that they are carrying - that "concealment vest" that you need for IDPA is probably a very bad idea on the street...BGs may not be the most intelligent among us but if you can look at someone and be pretty sure they are carrying then so can the BDs. The real problem with OC vs CC as I see it is knowing ahead of time which is going to be best for all the situations you'll face on any give day!

Well, unless you carry a girly gun (smile) when you pull your pants down your gun and your pants are going to wind up on the floor. Now I don't know about you but I don't want my pants or any part of my pants OR my gun sitting on a skanky restroom floor plus I want my gun where I can get to it quickly should some BG attempt something. I've tried the keeping my pants off the floor while keeping the gun holstered but it just doesn't work well...sooner or later the gun or the pants work their way down to the floor - I've found nothing as good overall as simply un-holstering and keeping my pants off the floor. It's also yet another opportunity to practice proper un-holstering and re-holstering technique.

When are guns the most dangerous? When we are handling them. When do we handle them? When we are loading/unloading/holstering/un-holstering/re-holstering/cleaning, etc. Is it really surprising that these things happen when we are in a rest room which often means we are going to need or have to handle our weapon...I mean firearm? There is no gun I know of, at least not in modern times, that will "go off" as long as no one is messing with it but as soon as you introduce the human element into the equation the equation changes significantly!

Hello folks, I just though I'd pop back in and let you know that after giving it some thought I decided to put on a set of CT Laser Grips. I pick them up Friday afternoon and installed them Friday night. I haven't had a chance to get the gun to the range with them but so far, I like them. My only complaint, and it's a small one, is that I'll have to alter my finger placement slightly when I rack the slide because before now, I'd let my fingers sort of wrap around the slide...doing that now doesn't work as the laser is in the way of my fingers! However, it's nothing a little repetition won't cure.

Cool Springs Mall hit with series of vehicle burglaries

Probably the best person to ask would be John Harris, he's an attorney and executive director of the TFA...I suspect that if anyone has been charged he may be the most likely to have heard about. -

I wouldn't expect it to happen much if it's ever actually happened. If we are HCP holders then we are, by definition, law abiding people...law abiding people at least try not to break the law. If that's true then there aren't very many HCP holders knowingly walking past a posting against carry and for those that do, either on purpose or by accident, it's probably unlikely that they are going to get caught unless they are carrying openly or do something stupid. -

Oh I guess it would be nice to know but I don't think knowing is possible unless some "big story" breaks that we can all follow. We may never know because most likely, the person carrying would simply be asked to leave - nothing further should happen unless the person carrying makes an ass of himself. -

Without someone knowledgeable of every charge in every jurisdiction how would anyone know? That aside, what difference does it make if someone has been charged or not? -

You could argue that in court and after a few hundred dollars for your attorney you might win but why would you put yourself through that? Perhaps the better question, why give ANY business (or mall that the business is is) that posts against carry???? I give my custom to businesses that respect my right to carry and I don't give it to businesses that don't...I highly encourage others to do the same. -
I like Top Shot and enjoy watching it...especially all the different weapons they get to use and the way they have to use them. Yes, some of the competitors are idiots and a**holes...sort or reminds me of life in general.

I would suggest your first item should be to start a list of things you think you'll need...imaging yourself without "grid" supplied stuff for a couple of weeks and what you would need to get through it..after you get a bunch of things on your list you can start prioritizing. While I can easily and quickly bug out if necessary (such as for a natural disaster), my main idea is to stay here and work/cooperate with my neighbors...we started a Neighborhood Watch group about a year ago and through that, many of us have gotten to know each other much more than ever before...maybe something similar would work for you? I've been slowly preparing...I could easily last a couple of months or more on what I have in my house right now and by the end of this year I think I could last at least two years on what I'll have stored...I've essentially dedicated one of my bedrooms to be my "prep" room; other stuff is in my garage.

Maybe they just didn't want to insure your firearms? I suspect that some insurance companies just don't want to do it.

My cost was knocked down considerably because of not just my safe but also because of my monitored security system. I'm not going to say how much coverage I have but it's more than $15K and my annual cost per thousand of coverage is considerably less than yours...in fact, $300/$15,000 is nearly double my rate. I should probably also add that in addition to my home, I also have two vehicles insured with the same company; I suspect that plays into it as well.

Another Walmart Story - Collierville,TN

No one is "hating" on the people who work at Walmart; some stupidity has been pointed out but that's hardly "hating" on anyone, most especially not so on all the people who work at Walmart. There are restaurants and other businesses I used to frequent a lot who decided to post against carry so I don't eat/go to those businesses anymore but I don't "hate" the people who work there. This is about a principle, not about hate. -
Wherever the people are from and wherever the gun was from and wherever the ammo was from; stupid is stupid. Most of us have done "stupid" at one time or another; sometimes the consequences are more severe than at others; sometimes very severe. P.S. Given the couple's current residence (in FL) I do suspect that the Tennessean's purpose for running the story has more to do with its anti-gun bias than is does with the news value of the story to the people of Middle Tennessee.

I've dealt with this company (or at least one done the same thing)...VERY irritating. Once or twice I've answered the call and before they could start their script I've told them I don't have any credit cards (and I truly don't thank God) and that they are in violation of both Federal and Tennessee state law by calling me as I'm on both Do Not Call registries...each time they hung up before I go it all out. Thankfully, my land line phone allows me to easily block numbers like that so I do...while I'd prefer to reach through the phone line and punch them in the face, at least blocking their calls solves the problem.

PrecisionOne "reloads" (he loads most of his ammo himself with new brass by the way; this isn't old, already used brass) to be more consistent and better performing than most factory loads. I also suspect that with the factory loads I buy you probably aren't going to find them at Walmart or if you do, the price differential isn't going to be nearly as significant as some have claimed. Anyway, I was asked where and I answered...if its mostly about price for you that's fine; this isn't about price for me. I don't want to pay more than necessary but for me, this is about principle, the same principle that keeps me from patronizing businesses that post against carry...I don't give such businesses my custom because they don't deserve it. When it comes to things I'm passionate about, like firearms and shooting sports, I don't buy from businesses that that don't have a stake in that passion. -

"Where" depends on what caliber I'm buying and how much. Some of the calibers I buy can be a bit hard to come by sometimes; at least in quantity...there is no one place I buy from. If I'm just buying a couple hundred rounds of something and I can find it there I buy from Outpost Armory; if I'm buying much more than that (say 500 to 1,000 rounds at a time of any one caliber) then I often order it online...I've had good luck from PrecisionOne and I think it's a one-owner operation; if I can't get it from PrecisionOne then I'll usually turn to one of the major online retailers (usually Sportsman's Warehouse). -

Well I guess we all have our priorities and that's okay. I'm not going to pay a 25% premium just to buy "locally" but I've never had to do that; so I find such anecdotal stories a bit difficult to absorb - they may well be true but such price differences certainly hasn't bee my experience. Frankly, regardless of what I'm buying, I'll pay a slightly higher price any day to be treated well by someone who actually values my custom rather than buy anything at any price from some uncaring mega-store or worse yet, from some ass***e clerk (who isn't an old as some of my underwear) who would rather have me just go away so that he can go back to watching the game on one of the TVs two isles over.
