Regulation signs or courtesy signs?
RobertNashville replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Maybe I wasn't clear but I wasn't talking about private parties or private property, I was talking about businesses and business property where the public is not just allowed to be but needs to be and is desired to be by the business (and of course, any property owned by the public/bought with public money). -
Yuuup....that (the above) isn't anarchy; it's good old fashioned tyranny.

Regulation signs or courtesy signs?
RobertNashville replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
You are right; what I should have said was "...Constitutionally protected activity (such as carrying a firearm)" - I changed it above. -
Regulation signs or courtesy signs?
RobertNashville replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Amen. I see no good reason to reward any business with my money if the have so little concern for my safety that they don't want me to be in their business with their firearm. I understand that there are circumstances that sometimes require me to disarm and frequent a business (i.e. many hospitals) but except in those cases, I find somewhere else to spend my time and money. -
Regulation signs or courtesy signs?
RobertNashville replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Frankly, I don't agree that a business property which invites the public to be there should be able to tell that public they can't do a legal thing (such as carry a firearm). That said, assuming that a business has that right I would say that they have an obligation to make their policy known. -
I don't know why such a move would surprise anyone. This is a man who by words and by actions has shown that he hates the United States and most especially the U.S. Constitution...almost everything about the man indicates that he is a socialist and, not surprisingly, hates everything about capitalism (well, everything except the money his friends can donate to him by virtue of their capitalistic efforts). Given the above, of course he is going to bypass Congress, bully the Supreme Court and completely ignore the Constitution. My worst fear is that this man and his wife (who also hats the Constitution) is allowed a second term...if that happens, we are done as we won't even be a pale imitation of a democratic republic based on liberty, freedom and personal responsibility.

I love the .357 Sig round; my usual daily carry is a G31. I do recommend that you buy ammo in bulk whenever possible; it's not an inexpensive round to shoot.

Amen! Ron Paul lost, and unless someone has invented a time machine so that someone can go back and change things it's time to get over it and move on - RP needs to do that and so do his hanger-on.

"Party" is not the issue; political parties are simply a structure...a mechanism that allows the political process (choosing candidates, elections, and the 10,000 other things that need to happen for people to obtain office and for the government to run once they are there. Without some kind of structure- a party to identify with, legislatures would probably get ZERO done ever (all jokes aside about that being a good thing; we do need our legislatures to do some legislating). When it comes to the political philosophy; I think Ronald Reagan may have said it best with regards to "conservationism" and "libertarianism"... From my personal perspective, I do believe there are many who identify themselves as libitarian who really do think we should have no or virtually no government involvement in anything - they do seem to embrace anarchy (whether they do so knowingly or or not I'm not certain and I find that approach to be both disturbing and dangerous. That's why, when I describe my political philosophy to others, I generally describe myself as conservative with libertarian leanings.

The trouble with Libertarians are some of the people they hang with. As for Mr Johnson, he has less of a chance to be President than Ron Paul did.

New G.M. Chief Doesn’t Rule Out Bankruptcy
RobertNashville replied to greenego's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The story is old but GM is having some sever problems right now and a real bankruptcy happening is not out of the question - had all these "to big to fail" companies, including GM, been allowed to do just that we would likely be in a roaring economy right now. -
Libertarian Gary Johnson: Abolish The IRS!!
RobertNashville replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Ron Paul didn't get "railroaded...Ron Paul LOST. That aside, I thought RP had all these "double secret probation delegates" that were going to force and brokered convention and make RP the Republican nominee this year??? -
Is this guy truly following me or just walking in the same direction? Does his body language suggest he's a threat or just out for a walk? Even if he's actually following me, is he simply maintaining his distance or closing on me and if closing, is it just because I'm walking slowly and he is walking faster or does there seem to be "intent" there? Is he in clothing that hides his face (on purpose or not)? Does he look like just some guy who belongs in the neighborhood or does he look like he just got out of the "big house"? The answers to the above are going to have a LOT to do with what I would do (if anything). Maybe I'd just keep walking to wherever it was I was walking to (probably keeping an eye on this imaginary "what if" man following me. Maybe I'd call the police (instead of my girlfriend) and tell them were I am and that I think someone is following me and I feel threatened. Maybe I'd retrieve my flashlight (that I carry for just such situations); turn and in a strong voice, challenge the person following me to ascertain what his intentions were. After that I would respond as needed from there. I can tell you this for certain; one thing I'm not going to do is immediately start wailing on the guy trying to beat him up (or in your words, "jack up his day") - because if I die that then I would be the aggressor and the criminal.

^^^ Wikipedia? REALLY??? That aside; nothing in there suggest that Zimmerman did anything overtly threatening to Martin (indeed it appears that Zimmerman had lost sight of Martin completely)...noting in the evidence you posted (or all the evidence you didn't bother to post) supports that Martin had any reason or justification to attack Zimmerman which is what evidence suggests happened. Why you believe that what you posted will "probably hurt the "z-Man" is curious indeed (of course, when you leave out complete sections of evidence and witness statements it becomes easier to support an opinion).

Aftermarket Barrells for a Glock?
RobertNashville replied to RobertNashville's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Thanks for all the reply's...helpful info. Now sure what brand I will go with but I am now more sure of going in the direction of an aftermarket barrel. -
A person can do the "what if" game all day long but don't you think it more productive to look at what we know and what the evidence supports? What we know doesn't support your "what ifs" and the "only side of the story is not sitting in jail" - there is more than one witness that supports Zimmerman's story along with other physical evidence as well which you seem intent on ignoring. No one has said anyone isn't entitled to his/her opinion...that doesn't mean anyone has to agree with you.I think it's very clear that Zimmerman made some mistakes and bad choices in this incident...yes, leaving his vehicle at all was likely a big error in judgment. However, the 911 tapes seem to show that Zimmerman had lost sight of Martin and was returning to his vehicle and if that's true then Martin, regardless of any threat he may have felt earlier, was clearly not being threatened any longer by a retreating Zimmerman. Where is the evidence that Zimmerman "approached" Martin??? The evidence supports exactly the opposite happening. Even if Zimmerman was approaching Martin (or someone was approaching you); someone walking toward you without some other obvious act of aggression doesn't give Martin or YOU the right to "jack up" his day; if you did that you would be in jail and rightfully so.

I was really expecting that this question had been asked before but couldn't find anything; at least not with the words I was searching on. My everyday carry gun is a G31; I also usually have my G20 or G21 with me as a backup. I've been thinking about an aftermarket match grade barrel for one or all of these both for whatever improved accuracy it might give me as well as being able to shoot lead rounds. Looking at barrels from Loan Wolf, KKM, Bar Sto and Storm Lake. I'm wondering if anyone here has any significant experience with any of these brands and if so, what their experience was such as... 1. Was gunsmithing needed (I understand that is almost or always needed with the Bar Sto)? 2. Were you happy with the change/would you do it again or do you think it was a wast of time and money, etc.? 3. What brand would you recommend if you were buying one today and/or are there other brands I should be considering other than the ones I mentioned? 4. I'm wondering about whether making this kind of change on a carry weapon is even something I should consider at all? I don't want to make my life more complicated and don't want to buy "troubles" so if a match barrel really doesn't make any real difference at the end of the say then I'd just rather not bother. Anyway...your thoughts and input would be appreciated! PS: Please excuse the misspelling of 'barrells" in the title!

I have some friends in Egypt who are Christians - they had a difficult life before the "Arab Spring"; I haven't been able to contact them for over a year now and don't even know if they are alive...I'm hoping that they may have been able to escape Egypt for a more stable place but it's likely I'll never know; at least not in this life.

NRA Endorses Maggart’s Opponent in GOP Primary
RobertNashville replied to Worriedman's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The very first day her donation site became active I donated to her...it was not a tiny amount but certainly not a major contribution either...I was absolutely STUNNED when she called me personally that evening to thank me. I've donated to a lot of candidates over the years and I've made bigger $$$ contributions to those candidates (local, state and national) than I made to Courtney; not a single campaign staff person, let alone the candidate, has ever called me to thank me. If she can maintain that kind of humble and thankful attitude she will serve Tennessee very well indeed. I'll be making another contribution soon too! -
Wait a moment...in your prior post you said... If he is found not guilty then it seems to me that is has to follow that the shooting was justified and if so, he has no civil liability under Florida law.Are you suggesting that he can be found not guilty of committing a crime but the shooting still be legally "not justified"??? If so, I see no way that's possible under the law. However, if, as you said in your prior post, it happens all the time I would think you wouldn't have any problems citing a few examples where that has happened. Do you have any examples; more specifically, any examples that has happened after FL law was changed to in 2005 to its current language? If you have any then I'd sure like to read the details of how it worked out that way.
-
Really??? Would you care to sight some actual examples from FL court cases where it was found that the shooting was justified and was sued civilly and the plaintiffs won the civil suite? I earlier cited the FL statute - Florida law says that individuals who use deadly force in self-defense are Immune from both criminal and civil liability so o I'd really like to see your examples that show that isn't true. As a practical matter, Zimmerman has no money so Travon's family can sue all they want because ultimately it won't make a damn bit of difference anyway.

I think some are missing the point. Technology isn’t the issue; how it is used and who uses it IS the issue – whether it’s a fixed wing aircraft, a drone, 007 in a jetpack or Starfleet security personnel in anti-gravity boots is immaterial. If law enforcement has just cause to search me or my property (home, vehicle, land, whatever) then they should go to a judge, convince him/her that they have a valid reason and get a warrant that specifies what they are allowed to search for, where they are allowed to search and how they are allowed to search for it…if they get that then bring it on - they should be able to use whatever technology they have available so long as it falls within the warrant. If they don’t have that just cause/don't have a warrant then they have no damn business “searching†anything with any technology. The mention of “in plain sight†is curious. It generally means that LEO can, without a warrant, seize and use as evidence any item seen in plain view during a legal search or you are in custody when the officer has probable cause to believe that the item is evidence of a crime; we don't have a reasonable expectation of privacy regarding unconcealed items in those cases. I’m not so sure that an item that is “evidence of a crime†seen from a drone (or any other device) with the ability to “see†much more than the human eye would be capable of and flying indiscriminately over private property would come under the “plain sight ruleâ€.

There have been two or three threads like this one recently (such as the red light camera one) and based on some comments from folks I suspect that if the government decided to use technology to look right through the walls of your home and see you doing your business on the throne that would be okay with those folks too...after all, you wouldn't be doing anything illegal. We are supposed to be a republic where liberty and freedom are two of the principles that define us as a nation but what's the point of using technology to protect our republic if, in the process, we lose our freedom and liberty? Maybe the next step is a miniature "black box" inserted in our bodies to record everything we do and say? It would probably be more effective in stopping crime and save money when compared to drones - when the black box detects us breaking a law, it can automatically summon the police to come and ticket and/or arrest us...we could do away with all criminal courts and just go straight to punishment since there wouldn't be any question that we were guilty of the offense.
