  1. I'm a 1911 guy and I always have and always will love 1911s...I own several and always will. However, I carry a Glock and I own severl. What convinced me was a two-day fighting pistol course when my very pretty and expensive Kimber choked BAD on me halfway thorugh the fist day. I switched to a backup, also a 1911, that took me through the rest of the course but I decided then and there that I was going to carry something that always went "bang" when you pulled the trigger. Obviousely, I iknow taht Glocks can fail to function on a bad round or for other reasons...mechanical devices can and usually will fail sometime. But round for round, I believe the Glocks are the most reliable autoloaded out there and also aren't all that expensive.
  2. Not only do they go off just from looking at them but most of time, they are unladed as well! News is now reporting that the officer is on administrative leave...also saying that the woman "hugged" him from behind. It should be insteresting to see how this actually plays out; assuming of course that we ever get the whole story.
  3. Thanks for all the info...haven't made any decisions yet but I appreciate all the feed back!
  4. Why should we "give thought" to it? When a business posts, regardless of their reason(s) for doing so, they are telling me that they do not respect my God given right to defend my life. So why shoudl it matter if they are posting because the business owner(s) "hate" guns, or because they don't trust people who carry to handle their weapons properlty or because they are afraid of lawsuites or becaue they are afraid of losing non-carrying customers who may hate guns, etc? I suspect that most people have made the conscious and very serious decision to carry precisely because they are unwilling to leave their personal safety to chance or to someone else....they may even have made that decision because they believe, correctly I think, that a responsible citizen has an obligation to be armed. So, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter why a business posts because the end result is the same whcih is that if i want to do business with that business I have to go unarmed and leave my personal safety up to chance/someone else. I will not do that. When I need to do business with someone and their business property is posted (or even if I simply "know" my firearm isn't welcome there), I go somewhere else because the vast majority of the time, I can find an alternative place to do business that respects my right to be armed (or at least doesn't actively oppose it). I suggest that if a person truly values his/her right to go armed, they should try to do the same.
  5. Nothing to apologize for! I was just commenting on the fact that so many here loath his actions but keep talking about him. Just as Dolomite's ball and Chain said above, he's getting what he wants, notoriety.
  6. I for one rarely go to gun shows so whether they are posted or not or allow HCP holders to carry or not is immaterial to me....I guess if I do go I know up front that I won't be carrying. My doctor's office isn't posted...hospitals are a different matter but many here have already said, and I agree, that there are occasions where exceptions have to be made, i.e. I'm not going to miss my niece's wedding just because I can't carry in the church she is getting married in and I'm not going to not visit my mother in the hospital just because it's posted, etc. But those instances aren't what most of us are talking about...what most of us are talking about are when we DO have a choice. As for "saving 20%" I'm sure some put a small savings ahead of their principles; I can't speak for them, I can only speak for me and I will NOT spend money in a store that doesn't support my right to provide for my own protection; period.
  7. Any business that tells me my legally carried firearm isn't welcome is telling me that I'm not welcome and that my money isn't welcome either; and I'm happy to oblige them by NOT giving them my money. Any business who makes their money from the sale of firearms/firearms training, etc. bot doesn't want me to carry my legally carried firearm onto their property is not only telling me that they don't want my business but they are schizophrenic, inconsistent and perhaps moronic - they may feel they have legitimate and rational justification for their position; they may even have rational justification but I'm still not going to give them a dime of my money.
  8. I'm not sure which is worse, KWIK's stupid acts or that people sit at their computers and post about this nutcase. How long as he been banned from TGO and how many post have been made about him since that time???
  9. As I understand Oregon law, OC is illegal except in a couple of cities, Portland being one of them. Even though it's legal in Portland, I think fair to say that people likely aren't used to seeing people walk around openly carrying a firearm and I'm sure that's why someone called the police; I don't know that it would have taken him a lot of effort to get noticed. I have no overt evidence of such but I suspect this guy did this in order to provoke a response and, being the law student that he is, felt compelled to argue the law with a cop on the street (that's a stupid thing to do even when you are a real lawyer) and then post it on YouTube so the whole world could see how smart and brave he is. Whatever the guy's intent, I don't understand why some people feel they need to be confrontational with a police officer who is being polite and simply doing his job. Some seem to think that being in your face/confrontational with the public and law enforcement will lead to greater acceptance of going armed (concealed or not concealed) however I believe such acts are much more likely to cause negative repercussions for and restrictions on the firearms community. At the very least, the street corner is not the place to argue case law; he should have complied with the cop's questions/requests and then taken it to the courtroom or used an administrative grievance process to make his point. In My Always Humble Opinion of course.
  10. This took place in Portland OR and this guy is just an idiot likely openly carrying for the purpose of creating an incident which makes him a double idiot.
  11. I can't say I liked his politics (specifically his AARP/Obamacare commercial) but I grew up with his show and loved it (and still do)...I went to Mt Airy NC in 2010 as part of my vacation; it's a great place to visit if you loved the Andy Griffith Show. Does anybody remember "Salvage" where Andy plays a junkyard owner who builds a space ship out of junk to go to the moon and bring back the equipment left there? It was a bit of a farce but I liked that show. RIP Andy; you left quite a legacy of a way of life that sadly, we'll never see again.
  12. Harwell is NO friend of the second amendment; if it were up to her no one would carry arms (except of course those who protect her). So..write all the letters you want but don't hold your breath...if it were me I'd spend the time working for anybody running against her as that might actually accomplish something.
  13. http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2011/12/navy-biofuels/ http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/48047296/ns/us_news-environment/ I'm sure there are plenty more.
  14. Actually, I would say that the real problem is idiot politicians who are more concerned about their agendas and their supporter's agenda's than actually governing on principles and common sense. As a concept, I'm fine with "green energy"....but moving to such energy has to be done in a way that makes economic (and common) sense.
  15. No need to apologize...as I read this I got made at these dirtbags too. I'm glad your daughter and the others are okay which is the most important thing. I don't know what it's like to be the parent of an adult child whom you no longer can exercise control over but I do know what it's like to see a brother and a niece and my aging mother take paths that are poor choices at best and perhaps even self-destructive and how helpless you feel knowing that you can do nothing about it except speak your piece (if they'll even listen) and then sit on the sidelines and hope against hope they'll make a better decision eventually. All that said, it sounds to me as if you and your wife did a good job raising your daughter; with that foundation, there is good reason to be hopeful that she'll make better choices and maybe even seek your advice!
  16. The bills themselves are dead; however, the issue certainly is NOT dead. That said, if the current leadership stays in place (Haslam, Ramsey, Harwell and Maggart) then there is probably less chance for ANY firearm friendly legislation coming out of the Tennessee Executive or legislative branch anytime soon. What is likely our best chance of getting any improvement with regards to restoration of our 2A rights (whether the safe commute issue or anything else such as constitutional carry, improvements to the HCP process, etc) is to unseat Marggart with Lt Col Rodgers...if Rodgers can replace Maggart as the Republican nominee in district 45 it will have a significant impact on the legislature not just because Courtney is very pro-2A but also because it will show the strength (or lack of it) of the firearms community in Tennessee since both the NRA and the TFA have targeted Maggart for defeat. Maggart, if you remember, has always touted her support for the 2A but this past session, she blocked the bills from coming to the floor for a vote even though the bills had successfully passed every hurdle necessary to get there and even with opponents to the bills wanting them put to floor for a vote. She and the leadership didn't want to have to vote on the bills because they knew a "no" vote would show their true support (i.e. lack of it) to the firearms community while a "yes" vote would piss off the big corporations who's campaign donations they were wanting for their re-election campaigns.
  17. Roberts' is no genius or some great strategist; he simply caved to pressure to protect how the general public perceive him and the court. Ultimately, his actions may help propel Romney and a significant number of Republicans into office as people who hate Obummacare realize that doing so is their only hope of getting rid of it but in my humble opinion, Roberts did this for his own selfish reasons.
  18. Having served and still serving, I understand your feelings on the matter. However, I also believe this SCOTUS decision was the correct one. Our right to free speech (to express ourselves) is not and should not be any more limited than is absolutely necessary; hence, inciting someone to riot or yelling "fire" in a crowded auditorium when there is no fire and perjury should be a crimes but that's as far as it should go. It is repugnant that someone would lie about being a member of a special unit or of having received a medal they didn't receive and I think such should be exposed whenever they are encountered but aainst the law? I think that went too far.
  19. Nothing is truly obvious in a short video recorded and posted by the people trying to support their specific position. Yes, from the limited video evidence, it looks as if the police who showed up for the call could have handled it better but I does that make them "dolts", I don't think so. People who open carry ought to be able to figure out then when they do so, they may get a reaction from the unfamiliar, uninformed, and/or those who simply don't like guns - responsible people who chose to arm themselves should at least take that possible reaction into consideration before openly carrying.
  20. Interpretation is not really the issue; all one really has to do is read it.The Constitution is not that difficult to understand (of course, if one is product of our public schools they need some remedial English classes).
  21. I believe we now have absolute proof that this Supreme Court of the United States cannot be relied upon to follow the Constitution...I find that more sad than surprising. I can only hope now that this November, we elect a President and enough conservative House and Senate members that this horrible law can be overturned and the country can at least begin to be put on a course heading heading away from socialism and heading back toward fiscal responsibility, personal liberty, and personal responsibility - I know it's a lot to hope for but what else is left. What scares me most about the prospects in November is that there are many self-identified conservatives who aren't even registered to vote!
  22. You were being a lot more serious than I was.
  23. In your statement, there is an underlying implication that the officer holder is able to and is doing their job effectively. However, other than gong on vacation, campaigining is the only activity where Obama has show effectiveness....seems unfair to say he can't engage in about the only thing he is good at.
