Chicago's at it again! Morons!!
RobertNashville replied to E4 No More's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I once lived in Chicago...there is much about the city I love but I'll never again be within the city limits or, for that matter, within the state of Illinois and it's because of their incredibly stupid anti-gun mindset and idiocy like this... "It is very important to us to tax guns because we know that guns are the sources of the incredible violence we have in our neighborhoods," said Preckwinkle at a news conference on Wednesday" Yeah...of course lady...it's the GUNS that are the problem; not the violent criminal human garbage who commit murders and other violent crimes...it can't possibly be the thugs, most of whom already have multiple felony convictions and, rather than rotting in jail, are out on the street free to commit even more crimes...no...it CAN'T be them!!! God; this stuff pisses me off. -
I hope you are wrong...truly...but if you are right, I may just quite my job and start using all those programs Obama want's everyone to be on...I'm tired as hell of paying for everybody to sit home and watch soap operas or play video games...I'll stop paying my mortgage so that I can finally qualify for one of those programs that don't do #### for people who have been paying all along....get evey credit card I can qualify for, run them all up and then default on them...I mean...let them sue away...what are they going to do to someone with no job and no income that they can garnish and a home that's upside down???Yeah...I'm in a bad mood today too...can you tell?

Actually, if the media would report the truth of what happened in Benghazi; that this America-hating communist let four Americans die that, quite possibly, he could have saved with a simple order; the people wouldn't just vote this piece of human garbage out of office; they would be standing in front of the White House at this very minute demanding his resignation.

advice to husband on selling a few guns?
RobertNashville replied to robert45's topic in Women's Perspectives
Okay... 1. Stay away from Craigslist; especially when selling a firearm. Yes, you can't openly sell a firearm on Craigslist but people find ways around that. I would highly suggest selling through TGO or, if you and your husband are wiling to put up with a bit more hassle and a broader potential buying audience, Armslist or GunBroker.com. 2. Be sure of the value of the weapon you are selling...use the BB of gun values as a good starting place plus find out what brand new versions (if there are any) of what you are selling are selling for. 3. Personally, I like to deal with people on TGO who have a positive iTrader rating and who have an HCP...that's not required of course but I feel better in doing so. I also recommend using a firearm transfer form so you have a paper record of the transfer (especially important, I think, if the firearm is traceable to you because you bought it through an FFL originally). 4. Common sense should prevail as usual...when you are meeting someone to make a transfer do so in a public place and if you can, don't do so alone and be armed! You never know; that's why we get HCPs right? I don't meant to scare you at all...I've done a number of transactions with TGO guys and have never had a problem...I've always felt I was treated fairly and had easy transactions. -
I've pretty much lost a good friend (actually a husband and his wife) because of their liberal BS and very one-sided view of things. They felt free to say anything they wanted about Republicans and Conservatives and some of the things they called GWB would be unrepeatable in polite company but anytime I said anything remotely disconcerting about BHO they went ballistic and had no problem posting their opinion on my wall. I finally blocked both of them from my FB account. Thankfully, my family, at least those I keep up with, are pretty conservative in their views.

Revolution (the TV show)
RobertNashville replied to Clod Stomper's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Actually, while it flashed by pretty quickly; I believe they were in Ohio while at the heroin place...the guy she was supposed to kill was living in what looked like a dorm or hall at Ohio State University (the camera briefly panned over a sign announcing that they were entering the campus). Being born and raised in Southern Ohio, I can tell you that we DO have forest land there so seeing lot's of trees, pine and other varieties some 15 years after civilization went to hell is not that big of a stretch. -
Foiled Bank Robbery - Troy, MO
RobertNashville replied to wipfel's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Humm...I'm not sure I agree with the bank president's actions in this case. I know it ended well and I know stories like this tend to make us feel good because the good guys won/bad guys lost but I'm sitting here wondering...was it really worth the bank pres risking his life to stop a thief from taking money that wasn't even his personal property? What if this thief did have a real gun...what if the thief had an accomplice that wasn't immediately apparent...what if some totally innocent person happened to be walking by at that instant??? I'm remembering a football truism...only three things can happen when you throw the football and two of them are bad. I suppose what I'm saying is that when it's clear that your life is being threatened I've no problem responding with as much deadly force as I can muster...when it's property, I think the decision becomes a lot less clear for me and especially so when it's not even my property that's being stolen. Every situation is different and must be decided in seconds - maybe I would have done the exact same thing had I been the bank president but even if I had, I'm still not sure it was the best decision to make. -
Poll - On your carry gun; Safety or no Safety?
RobertNashville replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I usually carry a Glock, sometimes a 1911...I'm comfortable with both. The only safety that can truly prevent an ND is the one between the ears - if you do stupid stuff with your carry weapon, eventually, it won't matter what kind of safety you have or don't have on it. I didn't answer the poll because I option three is a bit insulting...I don't "fumble" with a safety nor do I sweep my thumb for nothing...I practice enough with both to know what I have to do or not do with the weapon I'm carrying. -
Many people, including me have had our speech "limited" here on TGO at one time or another - many have even been permanently banned. Is that "bad" or "good"? I accepted my punishment and never disagreed with David's right to impose it (I still have two "warning points" although I've never actually investigated what the means precisely ). I realize it's not a perfect comparison but it's not terribly different either I don't think???
-
Absolutely correct.Freedom of speech does not guarantee one a platform from which to speak nor an audience to hear you. I'll admit, I find Facebook's actions distasteful but they have a right to run their site anyway they wish. That said, I've posted this link on MY Facebook page along with some appropriate comments and encouraged all my friends to do the same. Maybe by the time all is said and done this will be posted by so many FB members that FB will have no choice but to leave it alone.

The big question - concealed or open?
RobertNashville replied to Pat's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
If a bad guy shows a weapon he IS threatening deadly force and you have every right to respond in kind; I don't consider it a mere "property crime" at that point. No one can guarantee what a DA or a jury might or might not do later but I'm not going to not defend myself because I'm worried about the future; I will do what I can to help ensure that I HAVE a future and then deal with the consequences. -
The big question - concealed or open?
RobertNashville replied to Pat's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I was wondering the same thing. It's rare (as in very) for me to be unarmed; especially in my vehicle and I'm sure as hell not going to give up my vehicle to some unarmed punk....if he's armed and he shows it I am going to do my best to introduce him someone he probably won't like. -

RobertNashville replied to Pat's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Amen to that. Of course well all know (and if we don't, there are several here who will be happy to tell you) that Obama has a far better record than Romney with regards to firearms legislation because BHO signed the legislation to allow carry in Federal parks (never mind that he did it to get the CC legislation he was foaming at the mouth for) and because Mitt signed an AWB in MA (conveniently forgetting BHO's votes in Illinois and his statements to Sara Brady and others about his future plans for gun control legislation including a new AWB). -
which is usually a good bet!

Revolution (the TV show)
RobertNashville replied to Clod Stomper's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I agree.I've watched the first three episodes now and while it's not "great" it's certainly better than most of the trash on TV and most especially the totally unrealistic "reality" shows. I'm at least enjoying it enough to keep watching. For all the guys complaining about what isn't technically correct with the show; yeah...I hear you but it IS just a TV show; it's purpose is to entertain, not educate the masses about how to survive TEOTWAWKI. -
I don't seek out old silver coins but when I come across one I keep it. I buy 1oz silver Maple Leafs and American Eagle coins 10 or 20 at a time; somewhat as a hedge - the way I see it, silver is probably more scarce than gold, less expensive to buy and is needed in the manufacturer of a LOT of stuff. However, I mostly buy them because I like them and I just the way they "feel" when holding one.

What he said. It's personal choice and as with most things in life, there is a time and a place for everything. Just keep in mind "where" you are and be courteous of others (never a bad idea anytime) and how others can/will/do react to seeing a firearm if they aren't expecting to see one. -
And another reason why James Yeager is a tool
RobertNashville replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
I disagree...what a person does defines what a person is. Moving on... I respect your opinion and while I don't know you personally, I can take from your posts above that you are far more knowledgeable about JY and what it's like to be in his shoes than I am or ever will be but what I don't understand is why you feel you need to post the initial video (a video that most here seem to think is good info even if they don't like the "style") apparently, just to call him a "tool". It just seems inappropriate to me and not something that we should not be doing on TGO. -
Inside Waist Band Carry uncomfortable.

I'm working on ONLY being 30lbs overweight and the SuperTucks work great for me; I've no reason to think they wouldn't work for you just as well. -

RobertNashville replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
Whether it's just his personality or whether it's actually something of substance; I suppose what I don't get is why anyone would post a video just so they can insult the guy. If there is someone I don't like or that I think is a "tool" I tend to (or at least try to) ignore them; not watch their videos and then post about them. -
No pictures but I thought it was worth posting. Attributed to Senator Vest (1869) represented the plaintiff in a lawsuit whose dog "Old Drum" had been willfully and wantonly shot by a neighbor. The defendant virtually admitted the shooting, but questioned to the jury the $150 value plaintiff attributed to this mere animal. To give his closing argument, George Vest rose from his chair, scowling, mute, his eyes burning from under the slash of brow tangled as a grape vine. Then he stepped sideways, hooked his thumbs in his vest pockets, his gold watch fob hanging motionless, it was that heavy. He looked, someone remembered afterwards, taller than his actual 5 feet 6 inches, and began in a quiet voice to deliver an extemporaneous oration. It was quite brief, less than 400 words: "Gentlemen of the jury: the best friend a man has in the world may turn against him and become his worst enemy. His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name, may become traitors to their faith. The money that man has, he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it the most. A man's reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads. The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him and the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous... is his dog. Gentlemen of the Jury: a man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer, he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounters with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert he remains. When riches take wings and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens. If fortune drives the master forth an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him to guard against danger, to fight against his enemies, and when the last scene of all comes, and death takes the master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by his graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even to death."

Personal insults only show the weakness of the argument....he didn't say anything I didn't agree with nor did he say anything that I haven't heard many, many instructors say on the subject. So, pray tell, exactly what did he say that is so objectionable or wrong??? Edit: And another thing, if he is such a tool, why are people who think so watching his video's in the first place? -
I've no idea what business you are in but I would think you could find an alternative to the USPS couldn't you? I mean, to a large degree, it's those alternatives that is causing much of the problems at the postal service. Anyway, I guess "HUGE" could be a matter of one's perspective but I'd say it's huge... This was reported in early August... Source: http://www.businessw...5-dot-2-billion

Well, call me a pansy or whatever but I don't see how it's worth facing criminal charges or a civil lawsuit (or more likely, both) just so I can physically remove someone from my property and as far as I can tell, and I've been looking at TN's law since my earlier post, a property owner simply doesn't have the right to forceably remove a trespasser (if "trespassing" is all he is doing). I guess what bothers me about issues like this (and this is a generic observation, not directed at anyone in particular) is that gun owners who have chosen to carry for SD purposes seem pretty quick to promote "their rights" and "the law" until following the law interferes with something they like or want or feel entitled to do. We like to promote the fact that those who carry are "law-abiding citizens" yet it seems there are more than few who will, for example, carry past a sign, even though it's illegal to do so or are willing to physically lay hands on a trespasser even though the law doesn't allow it. I also can't help but wonder, amid all this bravado, who here has actually HAD a trespasser on their property that refused to leave after being told to do so? I mean, is this really a big problem that I'm not aware of? The only trespassers I've had a problem with are a couple of local school kids walking between my and my neighbors house to get to there house after the bus dropped them off (a problem I took care of with a liberal sprinkling of my dog's leavings in in the path they liked to use).
