  1. What I was referring to as far as disagreeing is that most of the experts on the Constitution I've read or listened to seem to concur that with the second amendment, as intended by the founders, in specifically referring to the "militia" was trying to indicate that every citizen had a God-given right to the "normal" or, if you prefer, "routine" arms of the day that would be typically carried by a soldier/infantryman. Whether that be swords, knives and muskets OR fully-automatic rifles, body armor and such in use today. However, the "average" solder of today don't carry around atomic weapons and I think tanks, armed drones, etc would also be weapons properly reserved to an organized military whether that be the standing military or a properly organized and controlled state defense force. While I could be wrong, I sort of doubt that if the founding fathers were alive today and knew of all the incredibly destructive weapons that exist that they would intend that the average family have a nuke mounted to a remote controlled drone or an atomic mortar (we used to have them). I will say that for me, I'd probably go for a boomer submarine if they let us have them.
  2. You can always establish a free email address just to handle your sales and then stop using it later...same thing with a phone because no, I'd never give out my home number. Personally I do give my cell phone number but if I were worried about it, I'd simply go buy a "throw-away" cell phone and use it until all your transactions are done.
  3. None of which, I would contend, is a result of our Constitution (which is what I thought was the point of the thread).I disagree with your reading of the Second Amendment and what types of arms are protected by it (as I think our founders would disagree as well) but that aside, while we have a lot of bad laws in TN related to firearms/arms; it's not because of the way our Constitution reads but rather, because of the idiots that have been elected (by other idiots) who passed those laws. To put it another way, it doesn't matter what TN's constitution says (or the Federal Constitution either) as long as we have legislators and courts willing to ignore the plain language of such documents.
  4. I'm definitely interested...there is no such thing as too much training on current firearm related laws, especially as it related to self defense!
  5. I'd say that there is really nothing "wrong" with the law we have (not that it couldn't be improved). If our legislators actually followed the state constitution most of the restrictions we have to contend with in TN would, of necessity, never have been passed into law in the first place. In other words, our problem, as is usually the case, is with the people this state has been electing to office.
  6. I've heard it said that 90% of what we worry about will never happen and that of the remaining 10%, half of that we can't impact in any way. In other words, stop worrying.
  7. I once lived in Chicago...there is much about the city I love but I'll never again be within the city limits or, for that matter, within the state of Illinois and it's because of their incredibly stupid anti-gun mindset and idiocy like this... "It is very important to us to tax guns because we know that guns are the sources of the incredible violence we have in our neighborhoods," said Preckwinkle at a news conference on Wednesday" Yeah...of course lady...it's the GUNS that are the problem; not the violent criminal human garbage who commit murders and other violent crimes...it can't possibly be the thugs, most of whom already have multiple felony convictions and, rather than rotting in jail, are out on the street free to commit even more crimes...no...it CAN'T be them!!! God; this stuff pisses me off.
  8. I hope you are wrong...truly...but if you are right, I may just quite my job and start using all those programs Obama want's everyone to be on...I'm tired as hell of paying for everybody to sit home and watch soap operas or play video games...I'll stop paying my mortgage so that I can finally qualify for one of those programs that don't do #### for people who have been paying all along....get evey credit card I can qualify for, run them all up and then default on them...I mean...let them sue away...what are they going to do to someone with no job and no income that they can garnish and a home that's upside down???Yeah...I'm in a bad mood today too...can you tell?
  9. Actually, if the media would report the truth of what happened in Benghazi; that this America-hating communist let four Americans die that, quite possibly, he could have saved with a simple order; the people wouldn't just vote this piece of human garbage out of office; they would be standing in front of the White House at this very minute demanding his resignation.
  10. Okay... 1. Stay away from Craigslist; especially when selling a firearm. Yes, you can't openly sell a firearm on Craigslist but people find ways around that. I would highly suggest selling through TGO or, if you and your husband are wiling to put up with a bit more hassle and a broader potential buying audience, Armslist or GunBroker.com. 2. Be sure of the value of the weapon you are selling...use the BB of gun values as a good starting place plus find out what brand new versions (if there are any) of what you are selling are selling for. 3. Personally, I like to deal with people on TGO who have a positive iTrader rating and who have an HCP...that's not required of course but I feel better in doing so. I also recommend using a firearm transfer form so you have a paper record of the transfer (especially important, I think, if the firearm is traceable to you because you bought it through an FFL originally). 4. Common sense should prevail as usual...when you are meeting someone to make a transfer do so in a public place and if you can, don't do so alone and be armed! You never know; that's why we get HCPs right? I don't meant to scare you at all...I've done a number of transactions with TGO guys and have never had a problem...I've always felt I was treated fairly and had easy transactions.
  11. I've pretty much lost a good friend (actually a husband and his wife) because of their liberal BS and very one-sided view of things. They felt free to say anything they wanted about Republicans and Conservatives and some of the things they called GWB would be unrepeatable in polite company but anytime I said anything remotely disconcerting about BHO they went ballistic and had no problem posting their opinion on my wall. I finally blocked both of them from my FB account. Thankfully, my family, at least those I keep up with, are pretty conservative in their views.
  12. Actually, while it flashed by pretty quickly; I believe they were in Ohio while at the heroin place...the guy she was supposed to kill was living in what looked like a dorm or hall at Ohio State University (the camera briefly panned over a sign announcing that they were entering the campus). Being born and raised in Southern Ohio, I can tell you that we DO have forest land there so seeing lot's of trees, pine and other varieties some 15 years after civilization went to hell is not that big of a stretch.
  13. Humm...I'm not sure I agree with the bank president's actions in this case. I know it ended well and I know stories like this tend to make us feel good because the good guys won/bad guys lost but I'm sitting here wondering...was it really worth the bank pres risking his life to stop a thief from taking money that wasn't even his personal property? What if this thief did have a real gun...what if the thief had an accomplice that wasn't immediately apparent...what if some totally innocent person happened to be walking by at that instant??? I'm remembering a football truism...only three things can happen when you throw the football and two of them are bad. I suppose what I'm saying is that when it's clear that your life is being threatened I've no problem responding with as much deadly force as I can muster...when it's property, I think the decision becomes a lot less clear for me and especially so when it's not even my property that's being stolen. Every situation is different and must be decided in seconds - maybe I would have done the exact same thing had I been the bank president but even if I had, I'm still not sure it was the best decision to make.
  14. I usually carry a Glock, sometimes a 1911...I'm comfortable with both. The only safety that can truly prevent an ND is the one between the ears - if you do stupid stuff with your carry weapon, eventually, it won't matter what kind of safety you have or don't have on it. I didn't answer the poll because I option three is a bit insulting...I don't "fumble" with a safety nor do I sweep my thumb for nothing...I practice enough with both to know what I have to do or not do with the weapon I'm carrying.
  15. Many people, including me have had our speech "limited" here on TGO at one time or another - many have even been permanently banned. Is that "bad" or "good"? I accepted my punishment and never disagreed with David's right to impose it (I still have two "warning points" although I've never actually investigated what the means precisely ). I realize it's not a perfect comparison but it's not terribly different either I don't think???
  16. Absolutely correct.Freedom of speech does not guarantee one a platform from which to speak nor an audience to hear you. I'll admit, I find Facebook's actions distasteful but they have a right to run their site anyway they wish. That said, I've posted this link on MY Facebook page along with some appropriate comments and encouraged all my friends to do the same. Maybe by the time all is said and done this will be posted by so many FB members that FB will have no choice but to leave it alone.
  17. If a bad guy shows a weapon he IS threatening deadly force and you have every right to respond in kind; I don't consider it a mere "property crime" at that point. No one can guarantee what a DA or a jury might or might not do later but I'm not going to not defend myself because I'm worried about the future; I will do what I can to help ensure that I HAVE a future and then deal with the consequences.
  18. I was wondering the same thing. It's rare (as in very) for me to be unarmed; especially in my vehicle and I'm sure as hell not going to give up my vehicle to some unarmed punk....if he's armed and he shows it I am going to do my best to introduce him someone he probably won't like.
  19. Amen to that. Of course well all know (and if we don't, there are several here who will be happy to tell you) that Obama has a far better record than Romney with regards to firearms legislation because BHO signed the legislation to allow carry in Federal parks (never mind that he did it to get the CC legislation he was foaming at the mouth for) and because Mitt signed an AWB in MA (conveniently forgetting BHO's votes in Illinois and his statements to Sara Brady and others about his future plans for gun control legislation including a new AWB).
  20. which is usually a good bet!
  21. I agree.I've watched the first three episodes now and while it's not "great" it's certainly better than most of the trash on TV and most especially the totally unrealistic "reality" shows. I'm at least enjoying it enough to keep watching. For all the guys complaining about what isn't technically correct with the show; yeah...I hear you but it IS just a TV show; it's purpose is to entertain, not educate the masses about how to survive TEOTWAWKI.
  22. I don't seek out old silver coins but when I come across one I keep it. I buy 1oz silver Maple Leafs and American Eagle coins 10 or 20 at a time; somewhat as a hedge - the way I see it, silver is probably more scarce than gold, less expensive to buy and is needed in the manufacturer of a LOT of stuff. However, I mostly buy them because I like them and I just the way they "feel" when holding one.
  23. What he said. It's personal choice and as with most things in life, there is a time and a place for everything. Just keep in mind "where" you are and be courteous of others (never a bad idea anytime) and how others can/will/do react to seeing a firearm if they aren't expecting to see one.
  24. I disagree...what a person does defines what a person is. Moving on... I respect your opinion and while I don't know you personally, I can take from your posts above that you are far more knowledgeable about JY and what it's like to be in his shoes than I am or ever will be but what I don't understand is why you feel you need to post the initial video (a video that most here seem to think is good info even if they don't like the "style") apparently, just to call him a "tool". It just seems inappropriate to me and not something that we should not be doing on TGO.
