...I said "us". As in us gun owners.
I'm a gun owner, Romney has NEVER done anything that restricted MY 2A rights....that shouldn't be a difficult concept to understand nor has he done anything to "us". The only people effected were the voluntary residents of MA and for the most part...with the blessings of the residents of MA. Funny...most people who think our rights are important also think the concept of states' rights is equally important (not that we have much of that today)...I guess a state deciding for itself what it wants to do is only something that should be supported by others only if they decide the "right way".
...We will get a chance the next 4 years to witness if Obama truly believes in his Marxist ideology and tries to implement It fully by assaulting the 2nd A.
Given the House Republicans proven willingness to bend over and take it up the *** on every "showdown issues" I can think of over the past two years, I don't think it's a stretch at all to believe that Obama could get some of his wish-list through...oh he'll "compromise" on some specifics but I believe we'll see an erosion of our 2A rights greater than we saw with the National Firearms Act of 1934. More disturbing is that anything he can't get through the front door of Congress could come from various Federal agencies (regulations and the likes), executive orders, etc.
For me personally, I have never denied what O is and what he want's to do. But when you compare the two men on paper, Romney has done more to harm us than O ever has.
Really? He's never done anything that harmed me or my 2A rights and unless you lived or have lived in MA during or after Romney was their governor I fail to see how he did or could ever have done anything to "harm" you/your 2A rights. In the past 30 years or so, I've seen nothing but restoration (slow and modest as it might be) of my 2A rights in the states I've lived in as well as the state I live in now with the exception of, surprise...Illinois.

UN ARMS TREATY AGAIN ALREADY?!?!?!
While it may neve "seem" to get anywhere, these people openly declare their true intentions. And is does eventually get somwhere, just like termites, little by little. A little regulation here that no one thinks is a big deal. A little ban there that no one thinks is a big deal. One day you wake up and wonder what happened.
Don't you know, according to some here, the "only candidate to have signed an AWB was Romney" so since Romney lost, we don't have to worry about this stuff. -
Somewhat correct. My thought is that it will very much become an issue of state's rights, much like the pre-civil war.
The concept of "states' rights" is an old one; and I don't mean a couple of decades old but even as old as the late 1700s and early 1800s; there have been many disagreements in our country over the issue since its founding; one issue resulted in a civil war. The idea that the sates can tell the Federal government what it can go do to itself is an argument that, at least as a practical matter, ended a long time ago and today, the only "rights" a state truly has is what the Federal government allows it to have with power backed up by SCOTUS. More to the point, what few states might actually have the balls to try to defy the Federal government are so few that there is no way they can stand up to the Obama administration.
Someone tell me why the U.S. House, which writes the budget, couldn't simply submit a budget that doesn't fund ObamaCare? He won't sign it, the Senate probably won't pass it, but I feel the House should pass it and stick to it.
There are many reasons, not the least of which is that, collectively, the current House of Representatives, which is the only part of Congress that could refuse to fund it, doesn't have the balls to do anything like that. Even if they did, there is NO law that is going to stop Obama from doing what he wants to do.
-
What makes anyone think the Obamacare isn't going to be the law of the land whether the "states" like it or not and regardless of what laws any of they pass? I'm not saying they shouldn't do it but I think it's a totally useless gesture. Our one and only chance to stop it ended last Tuesday.
...I am not a Obama fan by any means, but please tell me how your "great" Romney's actual record is on gun rights?
This post, above, is just one example of the sentiment I've heard from many here for months now as they derided Romney in favor of either someone other than Romney or even in favor of Obama. I've never thought that Romney was a tremendous 2A supporter but to say that he is the same, and some have claimed worse on 2A rights than Obama and was more dangerous to our 2a rights than the communist in chief, in my always humble opinion, to stretch the bounds of rational thought beyond recognition. As much as I don't care for or usually listen to Alex Jones, I think he has put together a decent amount of evidence to show just how dangerous our 2A rights are in under a second Obama term and more dangerous, under the SCOTUS justices he'll now be able to appoint; we'll be feeling those repercussions for decades. Anyway; here is the link to the video...I am interested in hearing your thoughts.
Depends on how you look at it. If they quit trying to ban the stuff they don't like, they would actually be less like democrats.
You may be correct, Mike but they will lose my vote and the vote of tens of thousands if not millions to whom those things are important.
-
The African American vote went to Obama because of one main reason. You don't get into the high 90's with a group because you're making them all happy.
Difficult to separate that percentage between racism and stupidity, which are usually bedfellows anyway. Blacks have always tended to vote Democratic even though it's always been the Democrats standing in the way of real equality and opportunity.
...
The obvious answer it seems is that that the Republican party needs to look even more like the Democrats
-
The way the GOP is talking, they're adopting a strategy to get immigration reform to get the hispanic vote.
Somebody, I don't remember who, noted, that most legal Hispanic voters, you know, the ones who actually followed the rules to get here and/or have been here for generations, tend to be conservative in their politics and that, for example, in states with large legal Hispanic populations, Republicans do well...meaning that it's the criminals (otherwise known as illegal aliens) who can't legally vote but do anyway, that are the primary voting block for Democrats. The conclusion is then, that the Republican party wants to go after the votes of illegals who can't legally vote in the first place. I'm I the only one whose head it about to explode?
The neocons or new Rockefeller crowd has been on a death wish for a while. There is very little conservatism. I agreed with Paul on most of his issues. He was trying to turn a ship without a rudder, though. The Tea Party crowd is the only bunch left for them to coalesce with. Maybe it will form something that is viable. Neocons just committed suicide, as far as I am concerned.
If there is any real hope left to save the country's principles it rests within the Tea Party and not surprising, the power-players and pundits in both the Republican AND the Democratic party blame "Tea Party" radical politics for the Republican being unable to bring home a win. I guess that's why I have very little hope left and at this point, just want to survive as comfortably as I can until I find out if the God I believe in truly exists or not.

Ex Felon Arrested After Shooting Intruders
A lot of members here keep calling him a criminal! No one here knows "what he did", or "when he did it"! Also, he's not on parole, nor on probation! His time has been paid!
Yeah; there seems to be more than a few here with railroad ties in their eyes looking for the tweezers to take the splinter out of this guy's eye...he isn't perfect so I guess he should have just not defended himself. I would also assume that these folks are at odds with Tennessee's law that essentially trumps all others when it comes to the use of a firearm when defending one's self (as noted by Mr. Stegall in post no. 6). -
...
Never said and never insinuated you were an atheist; just making note that atheists use the same sources and similar arguments for their position. I've never said we should legislate my or any other religious opinion nor am I suggesting that your rights should be governed by the church or any church nor do I want such - I'm not sure what made you think otherwise. I'm very happy that the first amendment prevents the Federal government from mandating religion on people just as I'm equally happy that the first amendment protects my religion from government intrusion (at least it did...it doesn't do so as much any more). As for the "the question that is always ignored"; since I'm not advocating for nor do I want the government to dictate such things the question is moot. If my church dictated such things and I freely chose to be part of that church I would have no problem with such requirements. If the ACLU is an authoritative source for you then I suggest you spend much more time studying Jefferson's writings and biographies...and in a few years, once you are done with him, there are many more founders worth of real study. -
Well, now that the election is over and Lori is dead (we think); what's left for TGOers to argue about???
"No, officer, I don't own any guns. The intruder came at me, I wrestled the gun from said intruder, and only used it to protect my life."
Nice idea but I don't believe "ownership" of a firearm a prerequisite to being in "possession" of one nor being charged with being in possession of one. -
Seriously? I quoted the letter in which Jefferson, the father of the First Amendment, gave his and the Founders' intent of the First Amen. after you said that the Cornel Law link was simply a modern interpenetration. Stop "ROFFl" and degrading accredited sources and try to keep up...
I'm familiar with the letter and have copies of most of Jefferson's writings; I'm keeping up just fine. That letter has been used for decades by those who want no religions input of any kind into public policy; it's most especially loved by atheists who want to be free of all religious expression of any kind from any quarter, public or private. Using that letter to promote such ideas shows a singular lack of understanding of the desires that drove our founder's ancestors to this continent as well as a lack of understanding of the principles the nation was eventually founded by the decedents of those ancestors. It's all academic anyway - every semblance of the Godly principles and attributes this country was founded on as well as what this country was intended to be as envisioned by the founders is gone anyway...the people have decided that morals and principles have no relevance in today's world...God has been replaced by Obama and a government food stamp debit card. -

So quoting a personal letter, not the Constitution, makes it a matter of law for you? Really??? I would say you are being extremely selective, to the point of being a contortionist, in picking what citations to use. -

It's still just a law professor's opinion of what the 1A actually says....I'd bet the same guy would say the 2A only applies to formal militias and isn't an individual right; would you quote him then? Oh wait...why am I arguing with you...I should know better. ROTFL -
Yeah, it's been so oppressive here for so long. Strickj, we've been over this and your Cornell intepretatio quote via wikipedia does not an agrument make. Why not just quote Sotomayor.
I guess it's ironclad fact which cannot be rationally disputed if you like what some law school or professor or SCOTUS justice says; it's simply opinion if you don't like it. -

None of this matters; those in power aren't worried because they all know they can keep blaming GWB and that the American public will believe it and of course, only the evil rich are invested in the market. -
Civil Unrest is coming. That's a guarantee.
Maybe so and being prepared for it is smart; wishing for it is beyond stupid. I love playing COD but I'm starting to think that maybe some people really do think that once you are "killed" you'll just re-spawn someplace on the map and that everything re-sets at the end of the game.
I would opine that any retailer who carries guns is supporting the firearms community about 100% more than those who don't sell guns. And if there's any truth to the idea that people become more enured and receptive to firearms by seeing more of them in daily life, you can't beat your average citizen seeing those scary assault weapons at Wally's while shopping for their normal mundane items. - OS
That's a good point and one I can't really disagree with. However, I would still rather support a store where the owner himself as well as, in many cases, his employees, are firearm enthusiasts. By the same token, when I buy a motorcycle (which I sold my last bike some time ago); I prefer to deal with people who ride themselves.
