Mae Beavers loses TN Repub Senate Caucus position
RobertNashville replied to GKar's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Oh shit...I was thinking of someone else entirely....sorry. I've got to stop drinking that stuff past 10PM -
Actually I've trained under him in one class and I've met/spoken to him every time I've been to Camden for a class and/or alumni weekends although I wouldn't be surprised if he trains as a guest trainer at other schools more often than he does at his own (seems to work that way in post graduate classes as well...I had more classed at my university with actual Ohio State University professors than most students of Ohio State who, supposedly, have that professor as their instructor :) ). I'm sure many of his trainers train for other schools or their own schools as well; whether that's true for every one I don't know...I see some of them more than others for whatever that means.

You've been on my list for a while (although I'm sure I'm on more lists of TGO members that you are). ;) -

Well, to be honest...the GOP is not much more than a pit of vipers anymore anyway so why would we be surprised that they are turning on their own??? That aside, while Mae has done some very good things in DC....she has clearly been getting "Washingtonized" - she's not the person we sent to D.C.; still better than most but we need to find a replacement soon. -
I know it can and that is precisely the avenue TFA has been pursuing but that wasn't what was being suggested above by the OP...what was being suggested was abolishing the HCP process and only having constitutional carry. Given the OPs statements I don't know that having both would be okay with him. ;)

I used to have a few kids who thought it was cool to walk through my backyard to get to their house (after the school bus let them off) rather than walking an extra 500 feet. Since every few days I gather up all the droppings of my basset hound and rather than throwing it away, I started placing it in the route I knew they were taking. They stopped walking through my yard. Don't know if such a concept can work in your case but maybe. ;) As to cameras...unless you recognize these kids and who they belong to, I'm not sure how that is going to help??? I think you are going to have to find a way to identify them and where they live...contact their parents and if that doesn't stop the behavior; get the police involved.

I don't know if you've ever worked in a closed shop but it's not that easy to "vote a union out"...even hinting that you want to do so can result in a little "after hours home visit" so you'll see the error of you thought process (and no, I'm not joking about that). Voting in and then trying to vote out a union is a a bit like picking up a crocodile by the tail...if you can keep the best swinging over your head you'll be okay but chances are he'll find a way to take your leg off even if you try to throw him far enough away from you so you can run the other direction. I've nothing specific against unions; I've been in a couple voluntarily...I'm just against being mandated that I join one and pay dues just to have a job (not to mention seeing those dues being spent on things I may fundamentally disagree with). All a "right to work" state really means is that I'm not required to join one...nothing in a right to work state prevents unions from being formed or being voted in or joined in any company; it only prevents mandatory conscription which really shouldn't cause anybody any heartburn. Really; the violence by these union thugs due to enactment of such a simple, free-market concept as right to work pretty much says all that needs to be said about these unions, how they operate and what their real goals are. If they truly have benefits to give that is worth the dues they collect then people will still join...so what are they afraid of if people have a right to choose? ;)

Yuup - I've taken two formal two-day classes and quit a few of his alumni (free) classes and will take at least one from him this year. As this point I've trained with some of the most recognized trainers/places in the country and don't spend my money at places where I don't think I'm getting my money's worth.

Some of us travel outside of the great state of Tennessee and I know of at least three states I'm in frequently in that do not recognize GA's permit and probably would not if Tennessee had the same standards. ;) The reciprocity states for GA are available - HANDGUNLAWUS is where I usually check such things but I'm sure the state of Georgia lists them on its website as well. As for the fingerprinting, many places who give the training class do their fingerprinting on site...no appointment needed. When I look at GA vs TN I see six of one and a half-dozen of the other; different..better in some respects, not in others so pretty much as wash when you add it up.

Maybe those on this board think so or maybe most just choose not to engage in the discussion. Anyway, 4,213 students went though TR last year so "douche" or not it seems he's doing okay and I'm glad for him and his staff.

I think you are right...for all its faults, the HCP process in TN does some real good in reacquiring our rights. Because there is a process that people must follow, that becomes a useful piece of leverage when talking about expanding carry such as the recent (and inappropriately named) "guns in bars" legislation. We can sit here all day and pontificate about how the training class, etc. doesn't really accomplish anything or make anyone safer but the simple fact that there is a "safety class" required along with demonstrating at least some proficiency can go a long way in thwarting the arguments of the anti-gun blood-in-the-streets crowd.

We need constitutional carry and refinement of our HCP process; a couple of very minor adjustments would make the process much less hassle but I very much like that I can carry in some 36 other stats just with my TN HCP and I don't want to see that changed unless it's a change to being honored in more states. Many places that do the class also do the fingerprints; I don't see how going to a sheriff's office would be better or more efficient? My fingerprinting took about 5 minutes tops; the only hard part was the machine getting a good read. I just read GA's carry laws and I don't see how their process is significantly better...different; but not truly better at least as I look at them quickly. More important I think; their permit is not honored in about 11 fewer states than TN.

Exactly what I was thinking...if folks want things to change they need to do more than rant on the internet. TFA, NRA, USCCA, GOA, and a host of others just for a start...and not just belonging to those organizations but contributing to their PACs...then; getting to know your state representative and senator well enough that you can pick up the phone and talk to them once in a while.

The problem is and the reason I care is that they aren't all labor union communists - in fact, if I remember correctly, the majority of people in Michigan, in last month's elections, rejected the constitutional amendment that would have made Michigan a permanent closed shop state. I have several friends in Michigan, one very dear friend who is nearly 80 and still travels around the eastern half of the country driving one of his Datsun/Nissan Z cars to attend the same events I do....he lives in Detroit...has all his life (except for his Army time)...I don't worry about the communist union thugs in Michigan but I do care about the people who aren't communist union thugs and Michigan has recently proven that the communist union thugs are in the minority. ;)
-
What benefits? The single most "anti-union" people I know are former UAW workers who came to Tennessee to escape those benefits. ;) I've had the unfortunate experience of being required to join a union to work...NEVER AGAIN and it's one of the reasons I moved to Tennessee.

Disarmed in a traffic stop

I'm confused, above you said you not only didn't now but didn't care about the actual statistics but you claim there are a lot of FACTS and proof of cops violating people's rights. How you can you know that with such certainly while concurrently not knowing and not caring about the actual statistics? It's not that I "don't care to know"; it's just that I've heard these claims before but the claims always seem to be long on assertions and very short on facts. I'm not and no one that is know of is disputing that there are bad cops out there but a bad cop here does not constitute your claim that "MOST ARE CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATING OATH BREAKERS". :screwy: -
I'm a little younger than dirt and a little older than my teeth. I can get caught up in stories like anyone else but I try not to slander whole groups of people based on Google searches - are you speaking from personal experience or from credible sources that all these cops are out of control and violating rights? How many real violations happen compared to the likely hundreds of thousands of traffic stops that happen in this country every week? I don't know the actual statistics on it and I don't care but I can tell you abuse of authority is becoming more and more rampant. Start here and move to Google and Youtube to continue your research. What you will see and read about will open your eyes good sir.
I do care about statistics because I care about facts - YouTube Videos are not a substitute. -

I think some folks here are overreacting just a bit Cops do more than just take reports and they are not all corrupt. And, not all cops think that law-abiding constitution loving Americans are Terrorists. -
7 year old boy shot dead outside gun store.
RobertNashville replied to Jesse's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Sorry but I disagree although not in the way everyone seems to think I do. I was taught to clear a weapon in the same way...I hope everybody always follows the safe handling rules every time...all I'm saying is that no one is perfect and no one is incapable of making a mistake with a firearm; not me...not anyone. I don't know why that is such a controversial statement. -

Well, posting in an internet gun forum can be tracked too...don't know about the "database"...do you have any actual evidence that such a database is being constructed? If any of my guns are ever stolen I'd be pretty damn happy if a cop found it during a traffic stop because he ran the SN. I'm no expert on Tennessee law but I believe you are wrong about speeding not being a criminal act...just because it's usually "minor" doesn't mean is a civil matter rather than a criminal one. AFAIK the State of Tennessee doesn't sue speeders in civil court and you most certainly CAN be taken to jail in handcuffs for speeding; they don't usually do that for civil matters either. However, maybe one of our fine attorneys on TGO can chime in. -
Yuup and Fords are better than Chevy's and 5.56 is never effective on the battle field (I learned that from playing COD).

No need to get insulting with the "this isn't advanced level stuff except maybe for Robert (me)" bit. No one and I do mean no one is beyond making a mistake...I don't care how careful they are or how much training they've had or how large or small their IQ is or whether they stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night...that's not intended to be a criticism of you or anyone else it's just a simple recognition of a pretty *obvious truth that people are humans and humans make mistakes; sometimes the effects are tragic. * At least I thought it was obvious - apparently there are people around who truly are incapable of making a mistake.
