Fear of being committed; and we must pay...
RobertNashville replied to MattCary's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
You know, we all keep trying to make sense out of this tragedy and there just isn't any sense to make of it. We'll almost certainly never know what really happened to him or in his mind that precipitated his evil actions. We'll almost certainly never know what this mother/son family was like day to day...how they interacted...whether there were signs the her son was this dangerous. Unfortunately, when an "evil gun" is involved; that is what always gets the attention and it's good, honest, people who understand the GOOD a firearm can do when a good person has it; yet we are the ones who suffer ridicule and hatred and new gun control laws. Maybe the masses focus on the "gun" because to focusing on the real problems is just too painful and inconvenient and, maybe, a little to "close to home". Folks like us on TGO and in particular, those who have made the decision to go armed, know that evil exists and that ultimately, the best way to overcome evil when it has a gun in his/her hand is a gun wielded by a good person who is willing to confront; even at the potential cost of his own life. -
I certainly hope so but I'm not overly optimistic about that. Look at some of the pinheads that were sent back to Congress after Obama care passed! And if it does happen...it will be too late. :(

BOTACHTactical.com seems to have disappeared.
RobertNashville replied to Beltaine's topic in General Chat
I suspect that a LOT of sites that sell firearms and related are having trouble with their sites both because of Christmas buying and panic buying setting in. I hope people calm down - whatever is coming isn't going to come overnight. -
Withdrawl NFA application?
RobertNashville replied to Smith's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
True....but I think what they can currently do and what they may be able to do in the future might be two very different things; at least if they have their way with all the gun control/gun garbing measures Obama is salivating over right now. -
What do you guys think of this???
RobertNashville replied to timcalhoun's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Unfortunately, no gun control measures are going to solve this problem. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try...obviously, mentally impaired people need help but even if we change how they are treated; we'll never catch them all before they might chose to go do something like was done at this elementary school. Filling out additional forms isn't going to do it. There are two reasons why this is so... One is the reason we all should know which is that a background check/forms can never really predict and certainly can't stop someone's acts in the future. Second, and the most difficult to accept, is that the real problem is our society...our lack of morals...our lack of teaching morals...one parent households due to divorce or children born to parents that never even married/lived together all supported by our wonderful government...it's a lack of value on human life...a lack of rational/reasonable thought...it's the dumbing down of our population...it's a lack of faith in God or almost any real faith in religions concepts that can be found in most religions. There are so many things wrong today that trying to address the problem of mass shootings is like trying to drain the ocean with a teaspoon. -
Our first amendment has pretty much always been "regulated". I think many have a fundamental misunderstanding or lack of understanding of the right of free speech. Some seem to think that you can say/write anything you want about anything or anybody you want at anytime you want and at anyplace you want. You see this played out all the time when people use their company email to send controversial content or complain about internet forums who "stifle" their free speech by banning them from a forum, etc. The simple truth is that the right of free speech does not give you the right to libel/slander anyone and it does not guarantee you a platform from which to speak or an audience to hear you. How that translates for this guy is that he should have gone to one of the parks in Murfreesboro to display his t-shirt but when he went to the mall, he should have covered up or changed shits.

Yeah...compared to what they are sure to ask for the first AWB was a walk in the park on a prefect spring day. What may be in our favor now is that the AR and related "military style" platforms have become so popular with the firearms community (compared to the first ban) that I think people are going to rise up in much bigger numbers to oppose it. The weak link are those Democrats and Republicans who at one time we could count on to oppose a measure like this...no one of either party is going to want to be labeled, at reelection time, as a someone who wouldn't vote to ban "child-killer assault weapons" (and that's probably the nicest the anti-gun crowd would say about them).

Cheaper Than Dirt. Not Selling Firearms? What?
RobertNashville replied to Smiddy's topic in Handguns
At this point I could care less what their reason was. Even if they had legitimate reasons (which I doubt) they handled it so poorly that they must be idiots...I don't buy stuff from idiots. -
CYA? I think it's more than that...I think it's because legislators had some genuine (and I'd say legitimate concerns) about people who truly know little or nothing about firearms and really need a basic class on safety and how a firearm functions, etc. before they start carrying one every day. The class I took had one gentlemen in it that brought in a revolver that probably hadn't been touched in 40 years and it was LOADED and he didn't know or even know how to check...he was asked to come back another day and was allowed to rent a gun at no charge; I understand he did well in the later class. One needs to keep in mind as well that in 1995 we were coming from a position where no civilian could legally carry in public. Going from 0 - 100 would never have happened; we had to go from 0-50 first. Now that we have 15+ years of history of things going well, we can move further to where we should be; Constitutional carry.

You might want to check out SKD Tactical; I've bought a lot of magazines and other goodies from them and have always had excellent service and at least what seems to be fair prices. I just looked and didn't see any aluminum AR15 mags there but they appear to have PMags in stock and for $14.20 Well shoot...maybe not in stock after all...sorry.

Sort of already discussed in at least one other thread (about the task force, Biden, etc). By January 2013? No Will they go for one? Absolutely Will they get one? Maybe...a few weeks ago I would have said either not or very unlikely but with the death of 26 (most of which are small children) I'd say their chances are pretty good. A lot of Democrats that would have said no will probably say yes to such a bill as will a lot of Republicans as no on in Congress of either party wants to face the charge of being in favor of "child killing assault weapons". Anybody who doesn't already belong to the NRA, TFA, GOA, USCCA, 2nd Amendment Foundation and every other pro-2A group out there needs to join and needs to join NOW.

fixed it ;)

I know we have some James haters on the forum but I think this video is worth watching regardless of what you think of him, personally. EDIT: Sorry...wrong link... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWR2Y_NBsOQ&feature=youtu.be

For those of you who support the NRA....
RobertNashville replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I absolutely agree but I suspect some of the posts complaining about the NRA aren't entirely well intentioned. ;) The NRA has and continues to do tremendous things for firearm enthusiasts, the shooting sports and perhaps most importantly; getting kids involved in shooting. They also have some tremendous failures, at least they are in hindsight. I to like the GOA's approach and am a member...frankly, I had forgotten about the 2nd Amendment Foundation; I need to look into them. -
I thought this article was worth passing along...some good points that may help us frame our discussions with others. From the article: Article continues here: http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/335739/facts-about-mass-shootings-john-fund#

Yeah...I see...beating a dead horse to the point that you can push the remains through a fine mesh screen. ;) -
No, not surprised....I have no illusions about the sort of tripe "gun control laws" they will propose; it will be all the stuff they've been salivating over for decades. Complete banning of all "assault weapons" with a very broad definition of an assault weapon. Ban on high capacity mgazines Ban personal cary Ban most or all "killer" bullets, again with a broad definition Microstamping Forced registration of all firearms Limits on how many firearms and how much ammunition can be purchased in set periods of time (day, week, month, three months) with complete reporting to BATFE of what was purchased and who purchased. Banning of all personal firearm transactions (every sale/purchase must go through a background check). Waiting period established on purchase of a firearm In the end I believe they will do all they can to make owning a firearm a matter of national registration, so expensive as to be prohibitive to many and virtually impossible to carry outside of your home. Those are just a off the top of my head of the kinds of things they'll propose - some of this stuff may or may not come with a grandfather clause but I'm sure they'll push for not having one.

Did I say, ever, that all compromise is good or appropriate or that everything should be compromised? Did I say, ever that all (or any) of the gun laws we have are good? And I suppose we should have never "compromised" with handgun carry permits so that it would be illegal to carry in TN or any of the other states we can carry in now; is that what you are saying? "Compromise" is NOT a dirty word...the founders understood that and had they not understood it there would never have been a United States. Moreover, ragging on the NRA on an internet forum...is that really going to change anything? -

"Compromise" is NOT a dirty word...the founders understood that and had they not understood it there would never have been a United States. What any idea or issue a person should or shouldn't compromise on is wholly and completely that person's decision. -
I feel better about him heading it up than I would someone with any actual ability that someone might take seriously.

Aw...come on...don't your want your 15 minutes of fame??? I mean after all, it could lead to a whole new career of daytime TV show appearances. ;)
