One of the reasons people form militias with ability to communicate, etc...which of course, puts every member on the radar of whatever alphabet soup. If I remember correctly, only about 3% of the population of the colonies actually fought in the revolutionary war and breaking away from the British was hardly a uniformly popular decision meaning that getting enough like-minded people together today to actively and perhaps forcefully resist what we believe is an out of control federal government is problematic at best. I wish I had an answer....but I don't. -
Even if he did I'm sure it would blow up in his face. ;)

That's a really excellent question and I sure wish I had an answer for you (and myself). I would never have thought it even as recently as a couple of years ago but this country and the liberal forces driving it today seem... 1. hellbent on forcing a revolution, or 2. Are convinced that the American people would never rebel and just capitulate, or 3. They are so secure in their smugness that they assume they can force their will on the people no matter what meaning any revolution/uprising would be quelled quickly. Just today, a friend of mine noted on Facebook that he had just watched a video of a women in Ohio voting SIX TIMES during the last election and he (and I) think that is going on everywhere with NO ONE prosecuting these scumbags. If we can't trust our election process then stick a fork in us because we are DONE as a democratic republic no matter who runs for office. -

I believe the time may come, and sooner than we would have expected just a scant year or two ago, when those who value their rights are going to have to decide to take a stand and say "no more" and face the consequences or capitulate. -
He is not for it and frankly, seems to be trying to kill it. Frankly, if they simply returned all spending to FY 2008 levels it would be a tremendous step forward in getting our spending under control but a Senator or Congressman even suggesting such a thing will get him/her labeled an idiot or worse. I'm just so sick of the whole damn lot of them....just about all of them are narcissistic, criminals and socialists who don't give a damn about this country or its citizens. -

I agree. The problem is that the vast majority of the ruling elite (i.e. politicians from BOTH parties) believe we mere civilians ARE ignorant, irresponsible and dangerous unless supervised AND controlled and that belief goes fare beyond firearms. Oh...there are a few elected officials of both parties that don't think that way but not many and their numbers are dwindling. Whether this compromise gains any traction or not, I have zero faith in our elected legislatures (state or federal) to do the right thing. -

Yeah but Mike, many conservatives are just as concerned about social issues as they are with fiscal issues, foreign policy and returning to the true constitutional republic our founders set up...I know that because I'm one of "those kind" of conservatives (although I'm not a Baptist, Primitive or otherwise. :) ). I'm not a prude but I do have strongly held beliefs about right and wrong and about such things as the right to life, what "marriage" actually means, and some of those other pesky social issues that, unfortunately, seem to drive segments of the people into the Democratic camp...I'm not going to ignore those beliefs just so we can get an "acceptable" Republican in office.

I don't know what "arms" you are talking about but the Bible clearly supports the right of people to defend themselves (with whatever "arms" are around) and, while I haven't read them all, the right to defend life is a pretty common theme in every religious text. That same concept is clearly embodied in the second amendment. Also note that the second amendment doesn't say "firearms" any more than is says "cap and ball pistols" or "muskets"...it says "arms". If DEW, phasers or light sabers are the typical military arms of the future those are covered by the second amendment as well. -
Mike, common sense would tend to agree but I don't think this is a "common sense" issue. While it's just opinion, based somewhat on experience, I believe true conservatives can win elections (regardless of the candidate's sex or race or religion). However, the elitists of the Republican party don't believe that and keep pushing to make Republican candidates look just like Democrats but only slightly less liberal. Even when those candidates lose, they keep pushing the same thing; apparently thinking that the losing candidate didn't look "moderate" enough. Perhaps more important, however, when Republicans have been in control of legislatures and Congress, they have proven impotent to act...they beg for power to "set things right" and when the people give it to them, they accomplish nothing. That said, what do they need to re-brand to? I suppose they could change their name to "Democratic Party 2"...at least that would be more descriptive. :shrug:

Might I suggest a reading of the Federalist Papers and a little of our history...not all founders believed in God or "a" god but they did recognize that our rights as human beings are our rights which preexist government; even the government they created. Your right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (a phrase which embodies all rights) are the rights of all men, everywhere...the fact that 99% of the governments that exist or has ever existed on this planet refuse to recognize them doesn't change that. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed..." Note that the purpose of government is not to grant us rights but to secure the rights we already have. :) -
I don't know if it's dead yet but it sure as hell stinks like decaying flesh.

Not only were people stupid enough to re-elect this anti-American bastard but we had alleges conservative/libertarian voters extolling the virtues of either voting for Obama and/or voting for a zero chance to win third (or no) party candidate rather then Romney; allegedly in hopes or on the theory that it would "wake up the Republicans". Well, I've see no evidence that the Republican party has gained any sense so far and in fact the establishment Republican party seems to be even more intent on ignoring and/or circumventing and/or making irrelevant the Tea Party/conservative movement of the party. I predict that in the 2016 election we'll have even less palpable choices for President if one leans toward conservative principles.

I was following the exchange last night with the Senator...I had a feeling that most of the pro-firearm legislation he was talking about did little or nothing to actually advance (actually restore) our already heavily infringed rights. I'm not saying that the laws they did pass were necessarily unneeded/unimportant but any attempt to hold up these bills as proof of how pro-2A the TN legislature has been the past four or especially the past two is laughable...it's the legislative equivalent of "I know you are dying of starvation so I'll give you one bottle of water to help you out. I mean, gosh, golly, wow - we don't have to put our SSN on the form used to show completion of the safety course for our HCP...that's GREAT! Too bad anyone who wants it can find out we HAVE and HCP and our RINO Lt. Governor is willing to change that. -

He did a good job of selling himself that way; may even have been that way at one time but his actions over the past two years in particular either are showing his true colors or represent a complete departure from what he always said he believed in. Frankly, we had better "conservative" representation when Republicans didn't control the legislature than we do now...pretty damn sad actually. -
Apparently we aren't putting enough people in prison or at least not keeping the ones we do in there long enough. Correct me if I'm wrong but an inordinate/majority amount of serious crime is committed by people who have already been convicted of significant crimes, even violent crimes in the past but were still walking around free. Obviously details would have to be worked out but in general, anyone who commits a violent crime against another person that cause significant or harm to the innocent person should be in jail long, long time with NO parole...commit a crime with a firearm and they go away longer; long enough that by the time they get out they are too old and infirm to be a danger to anyone any longer...commit a crime where they actually discharge a firearm and they go away for life...PERIOD.

That's hardly a new trend unless by new you are going back about a century. ;) The upper echelons of city police forces have always tended to be a LOT more about politics than about law enforcement; most of them or not much more than pawns of the (generally very liberal) politicians who fill the mayor jobs.

"Who else" needs it, among others, are state senators who have built their career on being "pro 2A" who then decide to run for governor and realize that if he gets the records sealed he won't be able to access the information to use in campaign fund raising. Does that sound like anyone you may have heard of???
