Wayne Lapierre has accounts with Bank of America
RobertNashville replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
I no longer bank with BoA but I used to and my HSA used to be held there (and I had no control over that). I suspect that if you look closely at any very large bank you are going to find things you don't like about them - I think we have more important things to be converned about than what banks Wayne uses. -
Interesting article from the Tennessean
RobertNashville replied to billyscott's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'm not disagreeing (in case you think I was)...just making an observaton that universal background checks is the one change most likely to get through (in my opinion) of all the stuff being proposed. I think the above is trure for reasons I cited earleir; 1) being that many firearm "owners/enthusiasts" don't see background checks as a big deal (for any number of reasons) and 2) because organizations like the NRA, etc will "give in" on that issue as a compromise to keep worse infringements from getting passed. Most of us know that background checks do absolutely nothing to prevent "gun crime" or "gun violance"; at least not in any perceptible percentage - it's one of those "feel good" laws that make people feel like they are doing something positive to keep guns out of the hands of criminals...and they've been around long enough now that people are used to the process and don't relaly care if we have the background checks or not. -

Regardless of whether the NSSF is for or against universal background checks; I think most organizations (or at least the biggest ones) are either going to be for it or at least, not oppose it. If surveys can be believed most "firearm owners" either don't see BG checks as an infringement or don't care much one way or the other and with that kind of luck-luster attitude I don't see the big organizatiosn fighting on this issue much and may well offer it up as a "compromise" to avoid other infringements that Obama wants. -

This is the article Brian said he was going to be writing...took a while to come out! I think he dealt with the subject pretty well overall...I also find it pretty irritating that Tennessee's rejection rate is more than twice the national average but that doesn't seem to bother anyone at TBI. One would think that they would be trying to be better than other states, not, apparently, satisfied to be so far behind in having accurate records. -
No one says you have to render aid and certainly, the bad guy should be last to get it if others need it but if you are ever involved in a shooting you can bet your 15 seconds of actions will be judged with a magnifier glass over hours, days and weeks; rendering aid to the person you just shot is one very good way to help those who will be doing the perceiving, perceive you as the victim/good guy.

You might find this interesting... I had been told numerous times that most police departments have a policy similar to the above and that they do because they KNOW that when an officer is involved in a shooting, they aren't going to be thinking straight for a while. That applies to civilians too because we all have the same chemicals rushing through our bodies when we are faced in that kind of situation. That's why you don't want to be offering a lot of information or answering a lot of questions immediately after a self-defense shooting and especially not without your attorney present. I think that most LE will understand why a person involved in a SD shooting will not just want but really needs some time to compose him/her self before answering a lot of questions. You DO want to be the first person to call 911. You DO need to give basic information such as has already been suggested. You also want to make sure that the 911 operator (and the police) know who you are/what you look like so that when LE arrive on the scene they don't mistake you for the bad guy! You also should have the phone number (cell if possible) of one or two attorneys you can call from the scene...keep their numbers in your wallet. Practice the things you NEED to say ahead of time so that when the emotions are flowing you'll know what to say and what not to say.

Right now I think online is your best best as some places do seem to have some of "this" and some of "that"...it depends a lot on exactly how picky you are about the specifications/manufacturer. Thankfully I've got a good enough supply that I'm not in any critical need but at the same time I hate shooting up what I have without knowing when I'll be able to replace it!

Ammo sighting .45 auto at pass pro memphis
RobertNashville replied to Dustbuster's topic in General Chat
Good news! In the past three weeks or so I haven't had much trouble finding ammo in most calibers save for 22LR which still seems to be difficult to come by - I guess it all depends on what caliber a person shoots and how many other people are looking for the same stuff. ;) -
I don't believe that people are working hard to make anyone's reports inaccurate. Rather, I think most people just want to know the facts and when you keep reading different stories with different "facts" it becomes more and more difficult to believe any of them regardless of their origin. Aside from the natural curiosity factor, this tragedy is being used as a reason to push even more unconstitutional gun control measures on the innocent (meaning us)...we know it doesn't really matter what weapons he actually use or how many shots he fired from what weapon but given the stakes, I think we would all just like to see some verifiable accuracy in the reporting and it just doesn't seem as if we are getting that; at least not on a consistent basis.

Others here have already said what I would tell you but I can't help myself because I love 1911s. There simply is not better firearm in the world in my humble opinion. I depended on a 1911 while seving and never feld underprotected. I occasionaly carry one today although with things the way they are, I don't do so often because the ones I own today are too expensive/mant to much to me personally and I don't want to risk losing one. So...I carry an ugly, functional, and relatively inexpensive Glock about 98% of the time. Owning a 1911 is owning a bit our heritage and more important to me, a bit of MY heritage. If they ever confiscate my Glocks I'll be mad as hell but if they ever take any of my 1911s I'll be as mad as hell and will cry like a baby. ;)

You and I both know that people tend to fall for whatever crap they hear that helps support what they already believe. Some people hate Sara Palin and always will...if God himself descended in the form of a white dove, landed on Sara's head and proclaimed her to be HIS choice for the next PONTUS it still wouldn't matter to some folks. ;) Now, whether Sara Palin would or would not have made a good president I don't know and I don't think we ever will because I don't think that's were her future lies but I'd vote for her over any Republican or Democrat nominee I've seen since 1989 (in fact I'd vote twice given that we don't prosecute voter fraud any more. :) )

Henry Rifle: Thinking about buying one. A good purchase?
RobertNashville replied to glock55's topic in Long Guns
While I am not all-knowing about anything and while I'm not a gunsmith, I've never before head anyone say anything like that about a Henry rifle. "Cheeply made" has certainly not been either my personal experience nor the experience of anyone I've ever known who owned one (including a couple fo gunsmiths). Not trying to badmouth your friend but I truly don't understand where he would be coming from with that statement. -
I'm glad to hear he is doing okay...prayers for him still coming. I know he'll need them for a while too.

RobertNashville replied to glock55's topic in Long Guns
I have a golden boy and it's the most beautiful rifle I own and love. It's one that deserves to be on display! Every time I hold it I feel like I'm holding a piece of American history in my hands even though it's a modern piece of firearm art. -
You probably cannot go wrong whether you chose a Roth, traditional or both. A Roth is almost always the better way to go if you have a lot of time before retirement and often the better way even if you are starting late to save. All the growth in a Roth is absolutely tax free which is hard to beat (unless your investments don't grow of course. ;) ). The theory with a traditional is that you get a tax break now then will, in theory, be in a lower bracket when it comes time to take the money out (paying income tax on the money as it's withdrawn). Other than that tax treatment they work exactly the same. Congratulations on paying off your student loans (at all let alone early!)....put a steady 15-20% away in a combination of 401(K), IRAs etc and you should be pretty well set when you are ready to retire.

Road Rage Couple Brings Gun To Fist Fight
RobertNashville replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It is, "who started it" that plays a major role here when determining justification for drawing (much less using) a deadly weapon. With Zimmerman, some have the opinion that Zimmerman started the conflict...my opinion is that a punk-want-a-be named Travon Martin, with more hormones than brains, inappropriately responded to Zimmerman's arguably reasonable actions and started a physical conflict where there was none and didn't need to be one which then required Zimmerman to respond with force (justified because he was in reasonable fear of death or grave bodily injury as you are right; that fear can be wholly reasonable whether the other guy(s) have a weapon or no). I'll let a jury decided where the truth lies in that case. In this case, I see Bradly acting very much like the punk-want-a-be Martin from the Zimmerman case in that rather than let a little traffic insult go by, he went out of his way to start a physical confrontation. That's why Bradly, in my opinion, was totally in the wrong to draw down on the two from the pickup; the fact that they were clearly in retreat at that point just makes Bradly's actions more obviously unjustified. -
Road Rage Couple Brings Gun To Fist Fight
RobertNashville replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I've always believed that as an armed citizen, we have a duty to avoid conflict whenever possible. I sure know how difficult it can be sometimes as I've had people do all kinds of things to me on the road...not just poor driving but acts that was intended to cause an accident or start a fight. As much as I might like to do the Chuck Norris thing and beat up the ones who have done that to me that not only isn't the moral/right thing to do but as an armed citizen it's an absolutely moronic thing to do. This guy is lucky he didn't kill someone; the guys in the pickup even luckier. -
I think the founding fathers would recognize that the emperor has no cloths; as to what they would do? Well, they've already tried to give us a republic and we've screwed it up...I think they would just let us wallow in our own mess. Admittedly; I've been more than a bit pessimistic of late but I think I've had sufficient reason to be. Our country's march toward socialism began in the early 1900's and has made pretty steady progress since then. It was pretty slow at first but as they say, it takes a while to turn a big ship but those who want this country to look like a European style democracy (or an outright communist one) have been patient and unrelenting and have continued to make progress for all those decades. With VERY few exceptions, all I've seen Republicans and self-proclaimed conservative succeed in doing is in slowing the progress but so what? The destination remains unchanged; only the arrival time changes. I'll continue to vote...hell, in 40 years I've never missed a general election and have only missed two primary elections. However, do I think anything will change? No; I don't - what happened last November convinces me it won't. Even ignoring everything else we know or suspect about Obama; given the state of the economy the Republicans should have been able to elect anyone they ran against him yet the socialist is still in office. Everybody has their opinions about "why" but the mere fact that he is tells me we are too late...that we finally have more people who care about what the government will give them than they care about their country. If that is true then who runs next time or the next next time or the next next next time is immaterial, even if they win. Even ignoring all the above...I can add and subtract and I know what's coming; I just don't know how soon. I refer to a complete economic collapse. I've spent the better part of my working life in finance in one way or another...I have, as the saying goes, more degrees than a thermometer. But, don't need to have even graduated from high school to know that you can't continue to spend 145% of every dollar you take in and never even get close to a balanced budget forever. IT WILL CATCH UP TO US. It may even come simply by our interest rates rising to where they actually should be...it may be the world deciding not to value oil in U.S. dollars...it could be many different things that collapse the house of cards but it WILL collapse. I'll keep voting and I'll keep looking for someone who can make me believe I'm wrong but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Makes me proud to be from Alabama - And more proud I moved to TN...
RobertNashville replied to a topic in Show and Tell
If the 1911 won't fire WITH a proper grip then the gun is defective which by default means that neither he or anyone else could get a "good deal" on one and all of them should be relegated to a scrap pile OR if it will fire with a proper grip then wouldn't teaching yourself how to get a proper grip be the right thing to do? Am I missing something here? I know folks from Alabama....but none are as dumb as this guy either is or appears to be. ;) -
I'm about ready to not support anybody anymore. With every day that passes I'm more convinced that it's too late to undo what the past 100 years have done to us and that there isn't enough left of the republic to save. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think so. Even if I am wrong, we are so ripe for financial catastrophe that it will be our undoing before anybody has a chance to "fix" things.

I wouldn't know where to start looking for it at this point...I posted it "somewhere" but I don't remember where; probably on a Facebook page. I've heard so many conflicting stories about what the animal took into the school, left in the trunk, and/or what weapons were actually used that I'm not believing any of it anymore and doubt we'll ever know the whole story.

Well...Rand's "reason and common sense" hasn't sold me on why we need to grant legal status to 10/12/15/20 million (depending on who's estimate you believe) criminals who broke our laws by coming here...working here...and staying here. I was warming up to Rand Paul until the bit of horse s***t he put out the other day.
