Anybody who purposely sits in the passing lane on a multi-lane highway/interstate when they CAN be in the right hand or right-most lane is simply being an ass (and may well be breaking the law while they are at it). I don't care if they are driving "45", "55" the "speed limit" or 20MPH over the speed limit. They may "feel" they have a right to do so or maybe they are a cop want-a-be who think they need to enforce the speed limit or they may just be stupid or preoccupied with the latest tweet from their twit friends but whatever, unless they need to be in the passing lane to pass slower traffic they need to get out of the way.

Senate rejects tougher background checks

We can engage in conjecture all you or I want but you don't know what Romney would have done nor do I. What doesn't take much conjecture is where Obama wants to take this country. More importantly, while I may not be alive to see the real fruit of the 2012 election, the legacy wrought by those who claim to stand for the Constitution and didn't think Romney was good enough for their vote will begin when the Supreme Court Justices Obama will get to put into place get a chance to start ruling on cases. -

But it seems that the other option is to just vote for whoever the Dems put up and destroy the U.S. that much quicker. I guess we are just f***ed either way we ago. Maybe I should just stop voting. :surrender: -
Amen and amen. It happens to me daily. Worst case was about four years ago coming from Chattanooga to Nashville...a semi pulls out a few seconds before I'm going to pass him and he, and I'm not exaggerating at all, sits in the passing lane for the next 6 miles before he finally makes his pass and pulls back into the right lane. As I go by I fire up the CB and tell him what I think of him (may have mentioned some of his ancestors too) and he seems oblivious as to why his actions were a problem for anyone (while a line of 40 cars finally get by him). I know what I experienced is not typical but this passing at .8MPH faster than the semi on the right is getting out of hand and only serves to piss people off.

Obama asked: "who are we here to represent?"
RobertNashville replied to Randall53's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Obama obviously doesn't understand that the real job of the President of the United States, at least in my opinion, is to LEAD but, since he is in perpetual campaign mode all he can see as his job is constituencies that must be pleased (represented). -

Oh please, you can't possibly believe that I was referring only to TGO members being responsible for Romney's defeat! I was referring to the self fulfilling prophecy and short sightedness of casting a vote for somebody other than Romney or not at all. That attitude was in full force among many on TGO but I certainly wasn't insinuating that it was only TGO members that caused Romney to lose the election; just the attitude. Regardless of the terminology you want to use and agreeing that what Romney would have done is conjecture at this point, I would submit that we had far more evidence of Obama's agenda then any that would indicate Romney would have similar reactions when it comes to gun control. The fat lady is about to sing - she is warming up in the wings - what will tell the tale will be the outcome of the 2014 midterm elections. We can argue about how this Republican or that Republican is not good enough and lose what is left of our liberties and our country while we are still arguing about the unpopular choices we have. -
Senate rejects tougher background checks

I tried, on this forum, to raise concern about an Obama second term in relation to gun control legislation (not to mention the Supreme Court) but there were still more than a few folks here who said they were not going to vote for Romney because he wasn't any better on gun control (he was the only candidate who had already voted for an AWB; totally ignoring Obama's record in Illinois) or Romney wasn't "this' or wasn't "that". I'm not saying that is why we wound up with Obama in a second term again but my point is that however weak Romney might have been on gun control issues I seriously doubt we would have seen a push from the White House for new gun control either such as we've seen since Sandy Hook. All Obama needed was an excuse and Sandy Hook provided that in spades. You are right, however..if liberals retain control of the Senate and get control of the House you can kiss whatever few liberties we have left "good-by"...we'll be wishing for the days when we only had to fight Obamacare. -
That is good news...I didn't expect it to get far in the House anyway but very glad it isn't getting that far. Probably too early to hope for yet but maybe this will help ease some of the panic buying/hording that is still going on and allow us to get back to a more "normal" supply situation for ammo, magazines, etc. ;)

Rant on... City and residential streets...yes...speed limit or less; there is no excuse for speeding or unsafe driving on those streets. Interstate/multi-lane highways; there is ZERO reason to be in the passing lane unless you are passing (that's why they call it that - in some states you can be ticketed for not yielding and moving over out of the passing lane). I'm not suggesting that is justifies someone else getting their hackles up to the point of looking for a fight but it shouldn't be difficult to understand why not getting over (when you can) is going to piss off other people. Two of the things I find most irritating here (in TN) compared to other states I live in is... 1. almost habitual running of red lights, and 2. drivers purposely just "sitting" in the passing" even when there is no other traffic around them at all (in other words, just because they are too damn lazy or stupid to move over). Rant off

Exactly. I did not agree with much of what Yeager said in the video that caused his problem…I did not like or agree with how Kwick was conducting himself (in fact I believe he did a great disservice to all gun owners in Tennessee). However, neither did anything criminal…neither were ever charged with a crime at all. All Yeager did was speak out and what he said was not much different than I’ve seen in posts on this and many other forums. Moreover, his speech was essentially politically oriented speech and if one reads the writings of our founders I suspect you’ll find that they believed that political speech; especially unpopular/unwelcome/dissident political speech deserved 1st amendment protection more than any other type of speech! Bottom line is, were it not for the fact that we need our Tennessee Nanny’s permission to exercise our privilege here; none of what happened to Yeager or Kwick would have happened. I’m all for taking the right to arms away from those who are truly mentally incompetent and are a danger to themselves or others. But I’ll never be for doing so without due process. Unfortunately, this country hasn’t identified or treated the mentally ill they way they need to be treated for some 40 years and while I think we can all agree that the mentally ill should not have arms; we need to be very careful what we wish for less we end up in Tennessee with exactly what I happening in NY right now (for anyone who do not know that story you need to find out about it). I can agree that under our firearm privileges we currently have in Tennessee, what happened to Yeager or Kwick was to be expected and that they brought it on themselves. However, for those who may think that what happened to them was a “good†thing then I am forced to conclude that those folks really believe we should treat bearing arms as a privilege…that they believe it’s appropriate that we need the state’s permission to go armed in Tennessee and would be opposed to the concept of “Constitutional carryâ€. If that is what they believe then I find that pretty disappointing. :-\
-
If one wanted to go back and count I would suggest that they would find many hundreds of posts that in one way or another, complain about the fact that in Tennessee, we have to pay a fee and get "permission" to exercise our RIGHT to bear arms. I understand why that bothers people...it bothers me. However, it seems there are more than a few who are willing to stand up for that same process they love to hate when it takes a person's permission away just because of something he said. I wonder...if we believe that we shouldn't have to have "the system" in place to grant us permission in the first place shouldn't we be equally opposed to that system when it revokes an HCP without any due process beforehand? Perhaps it's just a reflection of society today that we would think what the state did was a good thing. I remember when I would go hunting either before or after school and have my shotgun in the trunk of my car...I remember when no one had to lock their guns in their safes; they were out...often loaded and kids didn't go around shooting each other or shoot up their schools. No we expel a kid if he eats the edges of his cookie until it resembles a pistol or he draws a picture of a pistol. I remember a time when we didn't take away a person's right(s) unless he actually DID (not just said) something to justify it and then only with due process...I guess we can't wait that long anymore...now we take the right away and make the man prove he is worthy of having his rights. Maybe that doesn't bother anyone but me. :-\

I'm a member of Nashville Armory and I love it even though it's 35 miles away from me. I've been in some top notch facilities and there is only one I like as well as NA (Big Wood's Goods in Atlanta). As to the range fees; I've paid as much or nearly as much at middle-Tennessee area indoor ranges that were not half as nice as NA so, while not inexpensive I think they are pretty fair for what you get!

Sorry to hear. I went through a layoff in January....took almost exactly 2.5 months to get a new position (that is actually better than the one I left). All that to say; don't let it get you down; there is a good chance it will work out better for you when all the dust settles. ;)

Margaret Thatcher on "Consensus" "Consensus is the absence of Leadership" "Ah consensus … the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies in search of something in which no one believes, but to which no one objects; the process of avoiding the very issues that have to be solved, merely because you cannot get agreement on the way ahead. What great cause would have been fought and won under the banner 'I stand for consensus'?"

I think the real problem is what the graphic doesn't show. It's to be expected that business profits would be up because they are operating at about the same levels they were 10-14 years ago but doing so employing some 3Million less employees. That's not necessarily a bad thing, that's called productivity, but is what is bad is that the economy isn't growing enough even to keep pace with population growth let alone re-employ all those who have lost their jobs since about 2008.

Obama budget to target retirement accounts…
RobertNashville replied to RED333's topic in General Chat
I can guarantee you that if WDC tries something like this you'll see an exodus of money from this country that will cause the investment industry to crumble...the people being targeted first very likely have the resources to get the heck out of Dodge and they probably will. I would suspect that even most liberal Democrats will balk at the idea that they federal government can just come in and start telling them how much of their net worth is "reasonable". -
Obama budget to target retirement accounts…
RobertNashville replied to RED333's topic in General Chat
Not mine. Red - most of my "money" is going to be in things other than U.S. dollars and I'll empty my retirement savings completely if that's what it takes to keep Washington's grubby little socialist hands off of it...they may get some of mine but they sure won't get much of it. ;) -
Obama budget to target retirement accounts…
RobertNashville replied to RED333's topic in General Chat
I didn't say anything about "rights" did I? :) But, while we are on the subject, not Obummer...not the 51%...not anyone has a "right" to the money I've earned through my own efforts nor does anyone have a right to dictate to me or any other working person how much income or savings or assets is "reasonable". -

Who the f*****g hell is Mr. Vacation to decide what is "substantially more than is needed to fund reasonable levels of retirement saving"? This isn't surprising from this tin-plated dictator-want-a-be but GOD...this communist jackass really pisses me off. -
In case anyone is still questioning the reasonableness of using a AR/.223 weapon for home defense, you might find this article interesting. Of course the overriding rule is that my primary HD weapon is the one closest to me. That said, during the day, my HD weapon is likely going to be my nearest pistol (which I keep one somewhat "hidden" in each room) but my primary HD weapon, at least at night when I retire for the nigh, is a 5.56 chambered rifle backed up by a 12ga pump and then one of my Glocks. For a variety of reasons I believe an AR in 5.56 is the best choice for HD in terms of surviving (which is of course our first goal) but to each his own. I will add one more thought which is that I've learned recently (thanks to Chip Cain of Cain Law Firm) that using an AR in HD can have negative consequences in the minds of a jury should you ever be unfortunate enough to wind up in front of one for defending your life). Now, that's not enough to keep me from using my rifle (because if I don't survive the encounter then worrying about a jury doesn't really come into play) but it is something to think about. From the article: "Looking at the AR platform itself, I think it has several selling points that make it a better choice for home defense than a pistol or shotgun, at least in most circumstances. First, while it may not be as maneuverable indoors as a pistol, the length of the rifle will make it point much more naturally, increasing the chances of hitting the target. Second, unlike shotguns, most such rifles will be fed by 20- or 30-round magazines and have much less recoil than a smoothbore. The M4 is the preferred arm of SWAT teams across the country. Most of the shooting data involving AR-style rifles loaded with modern expanding ammunition comes from law enforcement sources. While they do not go out of their way to broadcast their investigative and autopsy findings, actual shooting results show that ARs loaded with modern defensive ammunition designed to expand—such as the .223 PDX1—work very, very well. Personally, though I put on a pistol every day when I get dressed, my designated home-defense weapon is a lightweight M4-style carbine from Bravo Company. I keep it out of sight but conveniently located for easy access. I love my Glock, but there are certain things a pistol just can’t do." http://www.gunsandammo.com/2012/02/10/long-guns-short-yardage-is-223-the-best-home-defense-caliber/

Shot fired while man cleaning gun
RobertNashville replied to billyscott's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I can understand no charges being fired if the round never exited his own apartment but when the round actually goes into another apartment; it seems to me that some sort of charge would be appropriate, HCP or not...maybe even a temporary suspension of his HCP. Hell, they pull HCPs with no adjudication just based on what people sometimes say without discharging a round at all. ;) -
And those who think the voters do a better job I have a couple of things for you to think about, Senator Corker and Senator Alexander; both of whom vote FOR Obummer's policies more often than not and both of whom have always been big government establishment Republicans. It doesn't matter now anyway...the illustrious Senator Corker KILLED THIS BILL yesterday with a call to, guess who, Speaker Harwell who then asked that the bill be pulled. Yeah...we are doing SOOOOOOOOOO well with the Senators we have now. :shake:
-
Out of touch and out of control? Seems an odd statement considering this bill would return Senator selction to the very method our founders intended. I see nothing wrong with moving back toward the way our republic was set-up to operate. And before anybody tells me that the people will do a better job of selecting Senators than the state legislature one only has to look at what we have (Corker and Alexander) to know just how baseless that argument would be. Many here claim they want the power returned to the states that the federal government has stolen - this is a step in that direction.
