The old saying is, "Train like you fight". If you have an SKS, or a Ruger 10-22 and that is what you are going to defend your life with, train with it. I'm sure the SKS will do just fine.

I like the idea of an AR with a .22upper/conversion kit for the carbine classes. When you start having to invest in 1000-2000 rounds of 5.56 or 7.62 ammo, the price is pretty high. You could train with the .22 conversion for much less than $100 in ammo. The pros need to chime in on this though. There may be drawbacks to using these.

I just looked in the Alliant manual and for a 230gr LRN, it shows 5.8 Unique as max. Are you using the jacketed data? 6.5 is the FMJ max load for the 230. Since you are using "plated" bullets, I'd treat them like LRN. Just my opinion.

I buy all my reloading stuff from Larry at the Reloaders Bench. Maybe you just need to get to know them better. I'm always greeted when I come in. On some things the prices are higher than Midway, but I'm the type that wants it "now". I bet if you got Larry aside and dickered with him a little, he'd get a lot closer on the price on that Lyman thing.

A while back, I bought a "suitcase deal" from lilpup in Nashville. Part of the deal was that I would PIF one or more items from the suitcase. I also got a reloading box deal from another member here. I've decided to make a combination holster/ reloading PIF. This will be a 10 item PIF. When you agree to take it you get them all. You make take one item or all 10 from the box when you receive it. But, when you PIF it back, the box must contain 10 items. So the box will circulate among the folks here, and always have 10 items to chose from. Simple enough or too complex? Ok, here are the 10 items to start. From suitcase: Kramer Leather holster RH looks like a KelTec Kydex Mag pouch for .22(marked Beretta 22A) Kydex shotshell holder for belt Kydex Pepper spray pouch(might hold other stuff too) Pair of genuine(or maybe not),pearl grips for a small revolver And from the reloading deal: Lee Chamfer Tool Lee Primer Pocket Cleaner RCBS Flash Hole Uniforming Tool Hoppes Flexible Shotgun Chamber Cleaning Rod Zippered Pistol Rug. Is this it? The Oviedo Model 1893 was made from 1896 to sometime between 1928 and 1941 depending on which source you care to believe. Distinguishing characteristics of the Oviedo Model 1893 are: 1) Oviedo logo consisting of crown, "Fabrica de Armas Oviedo" and the year of manufacture on the top of the reciever. 2) Most have 29" barrels. Some examples with 22" barrels have been reported; these appear to have had their barrels shortened and fitted with new front sights, presumably by an importer. 3) Folding leaf, a.k.a. "flip up ladder" rear sights. 4) No thumb cutout on the left side of the receiver rail to facilitate cartridge charging. 5) Gas escape holes in the left side of the receiver itself appear sometime between 1917 and 1922. I don't have any more specfic information than that yet. 6) The bolts have a flat surface on the bottom of the face, which was supposed to provide more reliable feeding. 7) Original bolts have straight handles Oviedo93

It should be safe. When I go during the week, I'm the only one there. Don't know about weekends. Nobody calls hot or cold at the other parallel ranges. They just go downrange.
