I'd say, consult the manufacturer for their recommendations. I only change recoil springs in my Colt when it starts throwing brass further than usual.

This box needs to stay intact. If he wants the box and agrees to PIF it, then he should have it. If he only wants the holster, then he can't have the box. Just my opinion, but that is what is intended in this PIF. The box is all or nothing.

Did Cat Daddy want the whole box or just the holster? Does he know what he is committing to?

I have an 1895SS. This is the older brother of the Guide Gun. Longer barrel and a 4 round tube. I put a Williams receiver sight on it. Installed a much thicker recoil pad and I was good to go. With the 45-70, it makes good sense to handload. I shoot mostly a cast 340 gr RNFP boolit that I cast myself. I have shot up to a 570 gr missile shaped boolit, but that one kicks like crazy and won't feed from the tube. My TN deer load uses the 340 loaded to about 1200 fps. That gives plenty of knockdown on the deer, without punishing my shoulder. I say go for it. The 45-70 Marlin is tough, and with proper handloads, can take game from squirrels to griz.

I didn't watch the video posted above. It may have been a good video. It's just that I have gotten tired of listening to nutenfancy talk on and on and on about what a good piece of gear he is testing. He must know that a lot of people don't like his videos, as he always has the responses disabled on his vids.

I can't stand his videos. He talks on and on about everything. He seems to like to hear himself talk. His 30 minute vids could be done in 10. Just my opinion.

Have you thought about going to cast bullets for range work? Lee makes a .356-102gr mold that turns out nice round nose boolits. I borrowed one a couple of years ago and cast some up. They shot good in my Bersa. I use the Lee Carbide Factory Crimp Die for all my .380's and have never had any setback problems. Good luck with the .380's.

In the video, I think he says they left out the fire protection. Said something like, Do you want to shoot a gun that got up to 350 degrees in a fire? Personally, I want as much fire protection as I can get, especially for all the non-gun things in the safe.
