  1. Probably similar to the 1994 ban, exceptions for military and law enforcement.  Sometime after it was enacted, they added an amendment for nuclear security guards.
  2. If the person was a law enforcement officer (or bona fide retiree), he can carry concealed under the federal Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act, unless there is a "no guns allowed on the property" sign.  I doubt whether a sign giving notice of the state statute is sufficient.
  3. Is there any wonder why Newsweek was purchased for $1?
  4. I was going to add the same thing.  Back in the 90's I had a friend who tried bedding the barrel and spent enough on other gimmicks to have bougnt an AR.
  5. You really need to buy a reloading manual and not rely just on the powder manufacturer's booklet or website.  I started reloading when Jimmy Carter was president, using a Lee Loader.  I bought a Hornady manual and read and re-read it.
  6. I read the reports as banning magazines that hold over 10 rounds, no grandfathering.  Magazines that hold 8-10 rounds are grandfathered, but may not be loaded with more than 7 rounds.  New magazines may not hold over 7 rounds.
  7. I've bought three Glocks through GSSF over the years and each came with three magazines.
  8. You may mean the the 'post' in a Federal Hydra-Shok.  However, it won't penetrate body armor, either.
  9. When I went through training to operate a breathalyzer 30 years ago, the instructor mentioned this method of ingesting alcohol.
  10. The 1/7 twist stabilizes longer, heavier bullets, such as 77 grainers, than the 1/9. The 1/7 will also stabilize light bullets. I've seen 1" groups at 200 yards from a 1/7 barrel using 52 gr. match bullets.
  11. There's usually a low light/night shoot at Volunteer Rifle & Pistol Club in Halls, the weekend after DST ends. Keep an eye on the announcements in the newsletter: www.vrpc.info.
  12. Legal issues aside, notice that several times when the guy fires, he then brings the pistol back to a near vertical position, just like checking shots on a firing range. You'll fight like you train.
  13. Posting is not required for a prosecution for carrying on school property. Nor is failure to post a defense to being charged.
  14. Thanks to you and the other 190 shooters who came out last weekend. We had around 370 entries.
  15. Reminder that the match is this weekend.
  16. Your friend may be confusing expungement with resoration of rights. Expungement destroys the public records of a case that was dismissed--whether by diversion, not guilty verdict or dismissal for other reasons. If the friend had a felony, it sounds like there's a conviction. Too late. He can have his rights restored for voting or serving on a jury. But firearm rights won't be restored.
  17. Volunteer Rifle & Pistol Club and the John Sevier Hunter Education Center, 2327 Rifle Range Road in Knoxville, will host their fifth match on June 2 and 3. Details are at www.vrpc.info or www.gssfonline.com or by PM'ing me.
  18. The NRA says the e-mail is bogus: http://www.nraila.org/news-issues/articles/2012/rumor-control.aspx
  19. "As Goetz told the police, "I said ' [y]ou seem to be all right, here's another' ", and he then fired the shot which severed Cabey's spinal cord." Yeah, Goetz had a hard time justifying that shot.
  20. Only someone who had never handled a Glock would claim that you could "over-insert" a longer magazine.
  21. Assuming "registered magunum" means one of most sought after S&W revolvers ever made, there is an exception to federal law that may help you: 18 USC 922(a)(3): shall not preclude any person who lawfully acquires a firearm by bequest or intestate succession in a State other than his State of residence from transporting the firearm into or receiving it in that State, if it is lawful for such person to purchase or possess such firearm in that State
  22. Tennessee does not recognize this aspect of the felony murder rule.
  23. The original question was whether to take a Mini-14 or AR to a carbine class. If anyone wants to go through several hundred rounds a day, scores of magazine changes and thinks a Mini is the gun of choice, have at at. I've owned, shot and watched others use both guns over the last 30 years. I think the AR is superior in every way. If you have a Mini-14 that is accurate and reliable, you are truly blessed.
  24. Pat Rogers of EAG Tactical said that he'd never seen a Mini-14 finish a carbine class. His classes run through 800 to 1500+ rounds. When you consider the ergonomics of both guns, magazines, and accuracy, you're handicapping yourself with the Mini-14.
  25. Read the sign carefully. It may be one of the old signs that referred to the code section that prohibits anyone from carrying a firearm where alcohol was served.
