  1. Other benefits. I get 8 hours of "Jerry Springer" everyday. Think someone is stupid enough to play Russian Roulette with a semi-auto? Yep. Why did mother (turd) throw her kid (also a turd) through a picture window? He didn't give her the TV remote fast enough, of course. What did the burglar steal from the home? Nothing, but both cantaloupes had holes cut out and were raped (yes, physical evidence was present). "Ma'am, why did you call 911 and hang up?" "I have a hornet's nest in my garage." Those are all real dispatched calls. Heh, heh...I got a bunch of these. More seriously, yeah some of the system breakdowns and calls (usually involving young kids) can be frustrating and break your heart. Try having a hysterical mother hand you her baby, while begging you to help, and you realizing it's already dead (SIDS). That's a ****ty day you won't forget. Overall though, I still like my job after 18ish years. On the days that blow, I tell myself to suck it up and press on because there's a lot of men and women overseas dealing with things a lot worse.
  2. Imagine doing my job. I see these system failures all the time.
  3. Yes, Magpul has put out some good stuff that is worth checking out. There's a couple of things they teach that I disagree with, but I could say the same thing about most classes that I've taken. Overall, they have great vids.
  4. I was recommending it... Edit...the correct title is Kill The Irishman.
  5. One that comes to mind...Kill the Irishman.
  6. I shot 50 rounds through one about two weeks ago (and dryfired a couple more). My thoughts... 1. The PPQ has the best trigger that I've ever felt on a polymer pistol. This (and it's great ergos) contributed to excellent accuracy. 2. I'm not crazy about "paddle style" mag releases...not a deal breaker, though. 3. I would have to dremel that huge-ass slide release lever. I experienced several "failure to lock back" after the last round was fired because my thumb kept hitting it. Again, not a deal breaker, as I have seen pics from other people who have done the same thing for the same reason. 4. It will be nice if/when better aftermarket sights become available (Edit, I didn't know that about P99 sights fitting...cool).
  7. Good on you for testing your gear. I'm always amazed when people don't.
  8. Agreed. If I carried a steel J-Frame, I would do the same as it makes a big difference in felt recoil.
  9. LOL, that's right...make him feel worse. Rusty is right, $1.32 now. Regarding the thread topic, I think that 2011 was one of the worst movie years that I can remember.
  10. Federal 230gr HST (not to be confused with HydraShok) Speer 230gr Gold Dot Winchester 230gr Ranger-T Of these, pick the one that shoots the best out of your gun (totally reliable and most accurate). All three are excellent rounds that provide superior terminal ballistics and low muzzle flash. I usually buy mine from www.ammunitiontogo.com
  11. ^^^ Yep, another great snubby load. Their full power wadcutter load is no slouch, either. http://www.buffalobore.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=111
  12. Thanks for your input (to everyone, as well). TNWNGR, on one hand you reenforce my argument, but then factor in things beyond the discussion. 1. There are very few standard pressure .38 JHPs that actually work reliably (expand significantly and penetrate at least 12" in calibrated 10% gel) from a 2" barrel and I think most have been mentioned. 2. LE ammunition requirements never were part of this discussion. 3. We're talking about .38 Special caliber from 2" revolvers. Heck, I'd feel more comfortable with a .90 caliber bullet traveling 2000fps, with zero recoil, from my 2" revolver! However, it doesn't exist. Everything defense related is a compromise and that is the point that I was trying to make. Regards
  13. Cool, I posted Dr. Roberts gel tests of this round awhile back...it performed well. .38 Sp Hornady 110 gr FTX "Critical Defense", ave vel=876fps BG: pen=12.7"; RD=0.46"; RL=0.40"; RW=108.9gr 4LD: pen=14.2"; RD=0.42"; RL=0.55"; RW=108.9gr I choose not to use it because... A. Didn't shoot to point-of-aim/not as accurate from my J-frame. B. Muzzle flash was significant. If these are not a factor for you, it's a good choice.
  14. From a discussion on another board, I posted this... I carry Atlanta Arms and Ammo 148gr FMJ Wadcutters (yes, FMJ) in my 642. Is it the greatest thing out there? Nope. But... *It's extremely accurate. *Very low recoil for faster follow-up shots. *14-18" of penetration in 10% gel. *Low flash. *Bullet profile is better than round nose FMJ for tissue damage. *Carry or practice, same load. YMMV Regarding recoil, my personal test is to fire the given round "weak" hand only (worst case scenario). If the gun shifts in my hand during recoil, it's too much. The Speer 135gr+P Gold Dot (one of the few .38 JHPs worth a crap) shifts in my hand...no go. BTW, I carry my 642 in my weak hand, front pocket as my BUG and off-duty gun. Shot placement is everything. Handguns suck as far as "stopping power" and I'm already planning on having to shoot more than once anyway. Here's a good article, from an authority on the topic, touching on the subject... http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=19914 PS. Another option for me is the Hornady 158gr XTP. These are my two .38 carry loads.
  15. Belle Mead Patrol...G21. Lavergne Patrol...G21. Smyrna Patrol...G22 or 23 (officer choice). Smyrna SWAT...XD45acp. Smyrna Defectives ()...G27.
  16. Well, newer anyway... I've recently been testing the Glock OEM "Dot" (or "ATF") connector in Gen2 and Gen3 guns. It's as crisp as the standard 5.5 (the 3.5s are usually pretty mushy), with a weight reduction of about .5-1 lb (varies, Glock to Glock). Worth every penny of $6, IMO. I've outfitted all of my Glocks with them. End point: If you like the "rolling" break of a 3.5 connnector, stick with it. If you like the stock 5.5 trigger, but wish the second stage "wall" was a bit less harsh, the "Dot/ATF" connector is for you. Regards http://glockparts.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=236286&CAT=705
  17. Another "thank you." Not just for the new look, but for everything you do. It's appreciated.
  18. Never as much as I should. As far as professional classes, I take at least one a year (this year I attended three shooting and one armorers class). I try to mix them up (pistol, rifle, shotgun), but this was the year of the pistol for me.
  19. Good point. It's very easy to slip from UC to CC with perishable skills like these. I remember Larry Vickers telling our class that at one time Delta's small arms ammo budget was more than the entire USMC's...there's a reason for that. That's probably why Mr. Vickers is the best shooter I've ever seen in person.
  20. Marijuana legalization, for or against. It would be interesting considering your audience and you're not redoing the gun thing.
