NFA signoff by CLEO in Rutherford county
TN-popo replied to a topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
No. But, if that's what you were told, maybe the "new" Sheriff (new since I've done it) is conducting a quick criminal check and charging $10. I highly doubt they're doing a TICS check inhouse. -
*Spoken for* I have a Heinie Ledge rear sight for Glocks. Heinie item #3185RL @ www.heinie.com. The tritium is dated '09 and it's still bright. This rear sight was basically mounted and taken off after a range session. Free to someone who can meet me in Smyrna.

Lucky dog. That's my absolute favorite 1911 version. If you have pics, and it's not too much trouble, I'd love to see it.

Probably my next gun purchase...my YHM Mite has been nagging me to get one. I was thinking about just getting a dedicated upper, but heck, for not too much more a can get a complete rifle.

New gun and displayed "coolness" = awesome wife. My wife (also pretty awesome) would have said, "don't be a dumbass."

I feel you, brother. I had to put down a longtime, beloved pet a few years ago and it was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Just this past week, my K-9 officer had to put down his partner due to cancer...they had served 8 years together. It hit him, and the entire shift, pretty hard. Regards -
lol...and I would deserve that "skooling."

PDX1 isn't my carry ammo, I was just playing with it. Nothing against the HST at all, but for 9mm I'm happy with, and have a good supply of, 147gr Ranger-T.
-
I recently bought a 20 round box of Winchester's 9mm 124gr+P PDX1 JHPs. I found 2 of these in the box. 10% failure rate...not cool for premium ammo.

Maybe semi auto handgun designs from the early 1900s...and any of those that you might use defensively have been updated (1911s, HiPowers, etc.). While shot placement is everything (meaning, of course, that FMJ will work), those using 9mm caliber and above are better served with a JHP or DPX for most defense purposes. The list from post #4 (obtained from Dr. Gary Roberts) is an excellent guide. As far as 9mm practice ammo (when I have to buy it), it's usually Brown Bear / Silver Bear. In over 10k rounds, I've never had a problem with it.

From your intro post... I am getting ready to get my CCP. Got a wakeup call a few weeks ago, when we had a couple of home invasions where the women got raped while the husband was tied up having to listen/watch. Figured that was too close to home and that that was NOT going to be me! And since stuff like this can happen anywhere, anytime, I decided that I need to carry at all times (except while AT work). So I got the book "The Cornered Cat", bought a Sig P250 .45 Subcompact and whatever gear necessary and started shooting at the Guns and Leather range. Only been a few times so far but I'm doing pretty good for a complete newbie and will take the CCP course soon. After that I won't stop learning, but train more, take some tactical courses and maybe learn some Krav Maga (or similar) to have a better chance of survival when I can't carry or got surprised somehow. Sounds kind of paranoid when I write it like that , but I'm sure you guys will understand, which is another reason the forum is nice - to have others that understand why you feel the need to carry." Sounds like you're GTG on mindset (although, there are many that would call you, GASP, paranoid), but I would counter your question to me about political/government paranoia with "Are you really that naive and ignorant about individual rights and the constant government intrusion of them?" I know, I know, I shouldn't be so "paranoid." It's not like I won't be able to get a big soda in NY or anything... I've worked for the government since I was 19, read a little history, and watch some current events. I don't have a tinfoil hat, but I don't think that I'm paranoid, either. Respectfully.

loaded, unloaded...eeeh...this made my head hurt.

You're weird. I've carried a Glock on my hip, in a duty holster, for 15-20 years. I clean once a month or when I shoot, whatever comes first. Never had this issue.
-
Here's my 5.45 when I received it. I've sinced ditched the SAW pistol grip in favor of a traditional AK grip and changed the muzzle device to a 4-piece Bulgy. Weird thing, it's probably the most accurate AK that I've owned.

Just for giggles, our Fed .40 180gr HSTs did pretty good in our last officer shooting (through auto glass, Dec 2011).
-
Why? Because we don't know what we're talking about? 9mm overpenetration had nothing to do with it. After the infamous 1986 FBI shootout, there was a perceived need for something more than 9mm, but less than .45acp. Right or wrong, the performance of the 9mm became an issue and led to deeper penetrating 9mms and the adoption, and developement, of other calibers. To the OP, while I have not spoken with the THP decision makers, those with that agency who I have talked with have mentioned greater barrier penetration as being a factor. The .357SIG has worked very well for them.

It's OK. It does lower flash and felt recoil, but I don't think it's worth what they're asking for it.

I haven't kicked it down a hill / HALO jumped / beat it with a hammer, but for my needs it's plenty sturdy.
