  4. I have a feeling we work at the same place. I work the VineHill job on the signal side. I’ve seen a few deer bombs.

  9. I don't have a 338 yet, but I did buy one of these this weekend. In all fairness I will probably build a 338 BR on a bolt gun.
  10. I have both. A 16†300 Whisper, 10.5†300 Blackout, 10.5 458 Socom, and a 7.5†458 Socom. Definitely different critters.
  11. A .22 LR will get you just as dead and a 300 WM. It won't be as spectacular, but you’ll be just as dead. The caliber has nothing to dowith how someone handles a gun. My eight year old daughter has shot three deer. Two when she was seven. She used my 308 this year. I loaded some progressively lighter loads until she felt comfortable with the recoil. The length of the stock is the only problem she has. That is where the AR platform excels. For her ninth birthday I’m going to build a lavender AR chambered in 6.5 Grendel. Slap a collapsible stock on it and she will have a gun that grows with her.

  13. My 8 year old hunts with a 300 Whisper and a down loaded 308. 6.8 would be good too.

  16. My eight year old daughter shot a 4pt this morning with my 308. This is her third deer. I’m pretty stoked about having her as a hunting buddy. I was kind of worried when we had a girl, but she’s been going with me sinceshe was five and hunting for two years.
  17. Most people never shoot over 100 to 150 yards so one gun is fine for them. I hunt a place like that. It’s a 200 acre plot that’s bordered by three neighborhoods. I use a suppressed short barreled rifle with subsonic ammunition. I limit my shots to 200 to 250 yards. (Short Range) I also hunt on a place where you can easily get shots out to 500 yards. For this I use a suppressed 308. (Medium range) I shoot steel out to 1000 yards. For that I use a 27†barreled 6.5 WSM. (Long Range) I have taken deer with this gun at extended ranges, but after I got into class III guns my focus changed. It’s hard to believe shooting 1000 yards can get boring. As for ethical shots, my loose rule is to hold your shots on deer to half the distance you routinely practice at.
