  1. I wouldn't want to get shot by someone I did know was in the tree. That hurts.
  2. Take the stand. Leave a laminated letter with your contact information. If it's an honest mistake he will contact you and you will know who he is. If not you have a new stand. Your contact info has to be on the no hunting sign, but this lets him know you have it instead of a trespasser.
  3. Reddot. Scopes - rifle scopes, handgun scopes, hunting scopes by Burris Optics
  4. I have a Remington 1911, but it saw action in Korea
  5. 6.5x284 140 Berger Bullet .640 BC A 6mm with some 107s or 105s with the appropriate twist will do great as well, but I'm partial to the 6.5s One of the guys that shoots with us uses a 243 with a Nesika action. He keeps up with us to 800 yards. The gun will keep up with us much farther. Broughton Barrels are the barrels we use to shoot out to 1000 yards. We have never had a bad one. Hart makes a good barrel, but I got a hold of one that did not do so well. Broughton Rifle Barrels by North Manufacturing Co., Inc. Leupold custom shop will put a custom radical that matches your bullets ballistics. It is free in some scopes, about $35 for others, if you order the scope from Leupold. What ever caliber you choose shoot it first, Get a good load, and chronograph it. Send the information to Leupold and they will set you up. With that and a rangefinder all you will have to worry about is wind and temperature variation. They will only run you out to 500 yds, but that's your limit so you're good to go. They will put turret with drop compensation on them, but It not easy to use in a stressful situation. https://customshop.leupold.com/custom_shop.php As for stocks I have used laminates and synthetics. McMillan is a good stock, but it is not cheap. An HS or a good Hogue will shoot just as well. Don't skimp on the optics and the mounts. You also don't have to shell out 2000+ to do what you want to do. I use a 4.5x14. The other guys use 20 and 25 power, but the more power you have the less field of view and shooting critters is a lot different then shooting targets.
  6. I got mine about 15 years ago. My last renewal took about 3 1/2 months.
  7. If you're in Nashville you may have been justified. Nolensville road Wal-mart is Indian country. I had to go through two or three people to get one that spoke English.
  8. I got my daughter a pink .22 when she was 4. She does not like it much. She does however love the suppressed SSK 300 Whisper AR. She is six now and loves to knock steel silhouettes at 100 yds. I have a Suppressed MK II she likes to shoot as well. The big thing is the noise that scared her. She gets suppressor + hearing protection = no sound. She likes to shoot what daddy shoots so there has been problems. I put a SBR together and she thinks it's just her big, but it's a 458 Socom. I had to explain that she would have to wait a wile. She decided she could shoot it when she turns 16. My wife and I exposed her to guns as soon as possible. She will ask to see a gun in the safe from time to time and I have never said no. She knows not to ever touch them with out me or her mother, but all she has to do is ask. She also sees me put my handgun on every day so guns are not the magical kid magnet to her. You need a lot of patients with them, but it pays off. I would start her off with a .22 and some Aguila Super Colibi. The Crickett guns are hard to load so its a good starter gun. They shoot good too. The best part is that all the little boys in her class are a bit intimidated by her shooting skill. If I can keep it that way till she's say 40 I'll be happy

  10. If you get the .50 let me know. I maybe able to set you up with some shots out to 1100 yards around Columbia.
  11. Longshot and 180 XTP @ 1300 fps is good for me
  12. I put a YHM Wraith and a Pride Fowler scope. Quiet and 200 yards of drop compensation. My crow Popper
  13. I shoot a Kimber Eclipse Custom II. I loaded 500 rounds for hunting and play and got 100 rounds of Winchester 175 silvertips for carry. It shoots unbelievably well. I took It hunting yesterday so I could test the effectiveness of my carry ammo and got a surprise. I shot a 150 lb doe at 20 yds and got full penetration. Not what I expected from personal defense ammo. There was a lot of internal damage. It's got to be a hell of a man stopper. I may need to get a bullet that is a little lighter on the construction.
  14. A lot of thieves are going to cut the safe. I had my safe wired into the security system.
  15. It's a 6.5 not a .30. My only argument is that ranges of more than 300 yards are encountered in Middle TN the OP lives in Murfreesboro. That is in Middle TN where said ranges may be encountered. If he will be shooting farther than 300 yards he may need to get a hotter cartridge. That it what it has to do with the 223.
  16. What does that have to do with the fact that there are places you will be presented with shots farther than 300 yards? I don't bust out the camo and calling gear when we are working cattle. The rangefinder and a bullet with a .640 bc @ 3000 fps works just fine. The Premier Reticle scope doesn't hurt either.
  17. "Especially here in TN where we are not apt to be faced with 300-400 yard shots." This is the statement I call BS on. You are and will be faced with these ranges. What you do with them is a different story. I have no problem with anything else you said.

If I was putting down 10 grand I would happily pay a class 3 $50 or so to hold the gun in a safe. Your deller my not charge you any thing. If you buy some thing from out of state make sure it's on a form 3. It would be a FFL to FFL transfer and I think its $10 to the dealer but I'm not sure. The dealer will charge you the standard transfer fee though ($100).
  19. We have three farms that we hunt on. Two of them have steel plates for targets. One is setup for 1000 yds. The other has a 500 yard plate and a 800 yard plate. We have target stands for paper from 100 to 800 in 100 yard intervals. At the third we watch deer from 1500 yards, get an idea where they're going and get set up for a 200-300 shot. We shoot off bench and off bipod(ground). Yes, I can hit out to 1000 yds off of a bipod. Hunting is a different story. Ethics come in to play, but I have and will drop the hammer on a deer at 500 yds. You said you were not apt to be faced with a shot like that. Wrong. I did not comment on the 223 or its ability to kill at those ranges. I agree that 300 yards would be the limit. If you stepped up to a 22-250 or used a 243-6mm, I would go to 500. I use a 6.5 WSM for all my long range shooting. There are a hell of a lot of cattle pasters around here. 300 yds across is an itty bitty one.

Nope. If I sell you a MG for instance, you give me the money, I fill out my part of the form 4, you fill out your part, and send it in. The form 4 will come back to me. I then call you to come get your form 4 and MG. This is only for transfers from TN resident to TN resident. If you live outside TN you would get a double whammy though two FFLs.
  21. We hunt on three different farms and you can easily get past those yardages. East TN looks a little different than middle TN.
  22. You are thinking about suppressors with wipes. Most don't use that technology anymore and the ones that do are very small.
