    Bedside Safe

I have one of the sentry biometrics, too. Costco had them for $100 around Christmas. So far so good
  2. "reversal" may be too strong of a word... I agree with Oh Shoot on the "wiggle wording".
  3. This. They should have stuck the employees in a rental car and had them drive to Louisville. Or put them on a small charter plane. Anything besides kicking off four paying passengers and making a scene in the process.
  4. I called NFA branch; they said it's fine to leave the ORI section blank. They have a sticker for the cards that don't have the ORI part filled out. Surprisingly prompt "customer" service for a gov agency drowning in applications.
  5. I got the prints done at the Sheriff's office. They entered all my info onto the card. I guess if I wasn't in their system before, I am now. I didn't know about the ORI part, so that was unfortunately left blank. I did the photos myself using the Passport Booth app and printed for 29 cents at CVS. It sure is a lot of hassle to put a stock on a gun.
  6. I sure hope so. I wonder, though, if that will be offset by the fact that they will be doing background checks on all "responsible persons" once they get to the post- rule change applications.
  7. I am picking up my MPX today and want to get my Form 1 in queue as soon as possible. Any tips on where to get fingerprinted and photo'd in Knoxville? I know I can get passport photos at Walgreens or the county clerk's office. I can get fingerprinted at the Sheriff's department, but I gather that I need to bring my own cards. It looks like these can be purchased on Amazon, but is there somewhere to get them locally? This is my first foray into the NFA world, so just wondering if you pro's have tricks to get this done cheaper/more efficiently. thanks.
  8. I finally got around to getting some new 3-gun gear for my 2011. I wanted something with a little bit different look, so I custom ordered the holster and mag pouches in the Kryptek Neptune pattern. Everything came from Fury Holsters, made right here in Knoxville. The holster is from their range series, the mag pouches are from their minimalist line. As always, the guys at Fury are easy to deal with, and craftsmanship is top notch. I was kind of wondering if I needed level II retention for the heavy 2011, but I don't think retention is going to be an issue with this holster. I will probably order a new belt from Stormrider Gear, too, so I'll have an all made-in-Tennessee rig. Whatdya think?
  9. I helped my Dad reload growing up and have been reloading pistol myself for about 5 years, but I've just started dipping my toes into rifle reloading. I'm starting with .223, mainly loading hoser ammo for 3-gun. I had a chance to sneak out yesterday to test some initial loads, and I think I found a suitable one. This is Hornady 55gr FMJ, 24.5gr H335, CCI BR-4 primer, PMC brass (range pickups within spec but not trimmed), 2.230 COAL. My chrono's battery was dead, so that data will have to wait. Anyways, I was pretty pumped to get under an inch at 100 yards with what was intended to be blaster ammo out of a chromed lined barrel (Daniel Defense M4v5). I do have one question. I did not crimp, and neck tension seemed fine. However, in scrounging brass at the range I occasionally find rounds on the ground whose bullets were pushed inside the case. I definitely want to avoid that. I have a Lee FCD, but am hesitant to mess with the load. What do you think, should I lightly crimp or leave it be?
  10. i actually don't hate how it looks. I'm confused, though, on why it needs such a huge "nose," as they call it. Hudson says that the nose is the key to the gun having an "extremely low bore axis." Frankly, I'm not seeing anything special about the bore axis. Putting a light on this thing would be ridiculous, though. I'd be hesitant to put money in a pistol that may be from a fly-by-night company. If it had great reviews and available mags (hopefully they used something like M9 mags), though, I'd at least consider one for around a grand.
  11. I have one mag with a Pearce +1 and one with a Magguts kit. I have not had any problems out of either. I was really hoping they could combined for +2, but that was not meant to be.
  12. Rounds that chamber just fine in my other 9mm's will not chamber in my STI. A Lee FCD and adjusting my crimp down to .375-.376 fixed all my problems with the tight STI chamber. You can color a case with a marker and then twist the round in the case gauge. The marker should rub off where the round is hanging up.
  13. I broke the plastic nipple on the end of the primer feed tube several times. Dillon always sent new ones for free, but that is a part I should have kept on hand. The frame on mine also cracked where the press was mounted to the bench, but Dillon, of course, rebuilt it.
  14. My RCBS .223 dies that I snagged on Amazon for $15 came in.
  15. The P320 Target that they introduced at the NRA show looks sweet, and the RX model looks pretty good, too. I wonder, however, what the FBI found out at their trials. It seemed like the FBI's specs were tailor made for the 320, but they still wound up picking the Glock.
  16. Any spots still available? my weekend may have opened up
  17. I have an ATS war belt set up, along with some suspenders. It would probably be what I'd grab in a "bug out" scenario, but I guess I won't know if it will be sufficient for this match until we have a better idea of ammo requirements.
  18. If you're looking to get in the game as cheaply as possible, look into a Maverick 88 as an alternative to the Mossberg 500. As someone who started off with my old 870, though, believe me when I say that running a pump gets old quick. You will be much better off with an automatic shotgun. Look into a Stoeger M3K or Mossberg 930 JM for budget options. I prefer to not have a front and rear sight on my shotgun. I like the HiViz tri-comp fiber optic front sight, and I have not had any problems making slug shots. I have seen some people cut a dovetail into their rib so a pistol rear sight can be installed, though. Any kind of irons are legal for Practical division; electronic or optical sights on your shotgun will bump you to Unlimited (i.e. Open). "Load 2" or "deuces" is the easiest loading method to learn. Basically, you grab two shells inline and shove them both into the mag tube with one stroke. There's also the "quads" method where you grab 4 shells at a time, but, for me, that method is easier to fumble. i would look for shell carriers that allow you to use both the load 2 and quads methods. The good carriers are all pretty expensive, but Taccom is a good bang for your buck. Invictus practical and Carbon Arms are a couple of other good sources. You'll probably want to be able to carry at least 20 extra shells, if necessary.

    Glock 43

I really like carrying my 43, but I don't shoot it very well. I'm working on it, though.
  20. I have some on backorder at Dawson's. I got an email alert from Osage county guns yesterday and was able to snag a couple before they went out of stock.
  21. I can't believe it's been almost a year since I posted this... Well, I finally got my gamer gun. The was going to wait for the CZ Shadow 2 to come out, but I wound up buying an STI Tactical 5.0. I didn't realize 9mm STI mags were nonexistent right now, so it won't see a match until that changes. Kinda needs a fiber optic front sight and a little trigger work, too. Hopefully I can get out to shoot it tomorrow.
  22. I only shoot at ORSA and have not been to a USPSA match since PCC became a thing, but recent 3-gun matches have been PCC-friendly (such as different targets on the longer range stages).
  23. If I was in the market now, I'd buy the Larue range bag. It's the same basic design as the Midway one (and 100 others), but it's made in 'Murica. i've been secretly hoping my Midway bag would fail so I'd have an excuse to get one, but the Midway bag still looks pretty much like the day I got it.
  24. If you're looking for a cheaper way to ship a handgun, check out www.shipmygun.com. It's an affiliate of Bud's that will sell you an UPS overnight shipping label for a lot less than what you'd pay at ups.com. The same package that would have cost me $78 (with insurance) on ups.com cost $59 on shipmygun.com. The only hassle is that the receiving FFL has to be registered with shipmygun (or Bud's).
