  1. +1. OBR FTW
  2. For instant gratification, check out Greene Military & Police. They have The Wilderness instructor's belts.
  3. I got a BattleLab Escape & Evasion Bag as a tactical diaper bag when my first born came along. It's an excellent bag and would hold everything you mentioned (depending on the size of your laptop, it would definitely work with an ipad though). The inside has three divided compartments, and there's even a removable holster that goes in it. Mine has a MOLLE front for attaching other pouches, but the standard version has three M4 mag pouches that you can stuff other things in. 4. So I saw a cheesy leather beer holster in a junk-mail gift magazine, and thought, "hey, that'd be a good a father's day gift." But then I saw the price, and said, "I bet I could make one thats less expensive, and way more tacti-cool, out of kydex." So anyways, I channeled my inner first-grader to make an arts n' crafts gift for father's day. I just need to put "World's Greatest Dad" in glitter on the front! I cheated a little bit by using a Blade-Tech paddle. When I make my one for myself, I'll try to do everything from scratch: It's designed to be used with a koozy: I originally intended to glue the koozy to the holster so it's built in, but I thought it might slow down the draw and re-holster. What do you guys think?
  5. +1 for the Caldwells. I have friends with Peltors and Sordins, and my Caldwells seem to work comparably well at the range. I'm not saying they'll hold up to the kind of use the higher-end stuff is meant to withstand, but it's hard to argue with the price for typical range use.
  6. I bought 10 boxes of 9mm at the Chapman Hwy WM about a week ago. I guess it depends on the blue-vest you're dealing with.
  7. do you want to buy at a store or order online? The possibilities are endless if you want to order. Greene's in knoxville has leather galco belts, 5.11 belts, and wilderness instructors belts. You can probably find a good thick leather belt at a saddle/leather shop in sevierville or pigeon forge. I'm sure there's plenty of that stuff around there.
  8. I'm totally jealous. Well played, sir.
  9. But pretty much only if you drink Sam Adams, Yuengling, or micro-brew.
  10. This is my first foray into the world of custom leather and IWB holsters, for that matter. K&D Thunderbird Defender for P7. Got a belt to go along with it: I like it so far. Not having any experience carrying IWB, it took a little bit of messing with to get a comfortable location and cant. But the good thing about this holster is that it's very adjustable, and I can even switch to OWB if I want. I didn't expect the leather to be so stiff, but the craftsmanship is superb. I will also definitely be buying custom belts from now on rather than dropping close to the same amount on chinese-made "designer" belts at the department store.
  11. I ordered a k&d belt and holster the week before thanksgiving, so it should be here soon. I'm sure it'll be awesome. As far as the cost of a good gunbelt, I look at it like this... the last time I asked my wife to pick me up a new dress belt, she just brought back a Polo belt from the mall. I didn't even want to know how much she spent, but I guarantee it was more than the one I just ordered from K&D. So, for less than the price of my last chinese-made designer belt, I'm getting a semi-custom, American-made belt that will probably look good with a suit for years and that will also support a gun or whatever else I want to hang on it. I feel pretty good about that, and I don't even have it yet.
  12. my apologies to the mailman, who braved the treacherous neighborhood roads to deliver my permit. Off to wal-mart!
  13. well, crap. I don't think my mailman subscribes to the "neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow" philosophy.
  14. my instructor (in Knoxville) told us all to go to the Clinton DMV. Best advice I've received in a long time. I was literally the only "customer" in there. They still gave me a number. Government
  15. an order of expungement is supposed to restore you to your position before the arrest... like it never happened. BUT, the expungement statute says "public records" are to be destroyed, and that does not include arrest histories that aren't open to the public. I imagine the DOE has access to those confidential law enforcement records when checking someone out for Q clearance. The statute is TCA 40-32-101 http://michie.lexisnexis.com/tennessee/lpext.dll?f=templates&fn=main-h.htm&cp
