HK P7 in a K&D Thunderbird Defender. I also have a cheap Blackhawk envelope holster for when the gun goes in my briefcase.

I did a lot of research before I bought my rifle, and I couldn't find a better value (for what I wanted) than the Daniel Defense M4v5. With the DDM4v5, I got a rifle from a top-tier manufacturer with a lifetime warranty, a midlength gas system, hammer-forged barrel, flared magwell, $300+ rail system with QD sling mounts and rail covers, $45 vertical grip, MOE stock, MOE trigger guard, QD sling mount endplate, hard case, and a P-mag. It's basically exactly how I wanted my rifle to be set up (sans sights) right from the factory and for $1,100. For me, that's an awesome value. YMMV

Back in the 80's, the DOJ did a 10 year study that found that 83% of Americans will be the victim of a violent crime at some point in their life. That's probably gone down some, but I don't know if the study has been updated. When your time comes, and there's a good chance that it will, will you be prepared to defend yourself? If you have your permit, will you have your gun? Or will it be sitting in your drawer because you thought you were going somewhere safe? It drives me crazy when my wife asks me why I carry to certain "safe" places. I tell her I'm not good enough of a gambler to guess the moment in my life when I will need to defend myself or my family, so the best bet is to carry my gun as often as possible. Point is, get your permit and carry your gun.

I finally get to play. Daniel Defense M4v5:

I finally have an AR coming in, and I was thinking about trying a little 3-gun every now and then. I have a few pistols that I've shot in IDPA at ORSA, and I have an Rem. 870 that I could get by with if I added a magazine extension. I really don't have any interest in tactical shotgun shooting, though. Plus, I understand that a pump shotgun is a bit of a handicap. Is there a type of match that only involves rifle and pistol?

I was glad that Dustin did not miss with the OBR or the Vltor TS3. It drove me crazy during the team challenges when these supposed top shooters missed pie-plate sized targets at 75 yards with these rifles. It was like watching an NBA player miss a lay-up on a fast break.

Hey guys, I thought I'd give a quick review of my new holster for my Beretta 92FS with TICK rail and M3 light. It was made by Fury Carry Solutions out of south Knoxville. I had been wondering how I was ever going to find a holster this gun/rail/light combo, so I'm glad I stopped at their table at the gunshow a few months ago. Fury makes everything custom, and it took about a week and a half to get the holster (which is ridiculously quick for custom work). I also had to leave my gun with them, but that was because I had such an unusual order. I had the holster made with a straight drop and molle loops to mount it on my battle belt. I also got 1.5" belt loops, which are very simple to switch out. Retention on the holster is very good, and the craftsmanship is great. I tried to get a picture of how well the seams are sanded and blended together. It's obvious that a lot of attention to detail went into making this holster. Overall, I'm very pleased. This was probably the only way I could have ever gotten a holster for this gun/rail/light. They have a website if you're interested in getting a holster from them. You should be able to find it using google. Oh, and if anyone is looking for a way to mount a light to 92FS, check out the TICK rail. It's an excellent product as well.

another vote for the Wilderness belt. I have a 1.5" 3-stitch that I wear whenever I'm allowed to dress casual. It is fantastic. I also have a 1.25" black leather belt from K&D Holsters. It was pretty affordable for a hand-made gun belt, and it's nice enough that I wear it with suits pretty much every day. I'm not sure if K&D is still making them, though.

Not sure how I talked my parents into it, but I got a Beretta 92FS for Christmas when I was about 12 (about 20 years ago). The military had just adopted the Beretta a few years earlier, Bruce Willis was using it in Die Hard, and Mel Gibson was using it in Lethal Weapon. Had to have it! Besides, everybody knew that the good guys use Berettas! There's definitely things that I don't like about the Beretta, such as the size, weight, slide mounted decocker, and lack of ability to change the front site. But, its kinda what I'm used to, and I shoot it fairly well. I honestly cannot remember mine ever malfunctioning. I'll never get rid of it. Anyways, your 92a1 looks good. I'm jealous of that light rail! If you're interested in a laser, Crimson Trace is the way to go. Congrats!

Should this conflict ever arise what would you do?

a lot of 'what ifs' here... my initial thought is to get the hell out of there. But, one factor that might make me lean toward drawing is that if you don't act immediately while the guy's focus is on the cashier, you lose what little upper hand you have. What if in the commotion to hustle your family away, the robber turns his gun toward you and says "hold it right there!" Do you keep going and hope he doesn't open fire, or do you stop? Frankly, moving fast is something I've never had any luck getting my wife and kids to do. And now that his gun is on you, you've lost your advantage in pulling your own. I just don't know that I'd be able to get my family out of harm's way quickly enough. I guess it would depend on how close we were to guy when his gun first appeared. Then again, I wouldn't want to get into a shootout with my family standing right next to me, either. tough question. -
chalk this one up to Blackstone, I guess. Personally, I thought the prosecution put on a pretty compelling case. Body in a laundry bag, duct tape over the mouth and nose, dumped in a swamp. Looks like homicide to me. The prosecution put on evidence that the laundry bag and duct tape almost certainly came from the Anthony home. There was no evidence or allegation that Caylee was abducted from the Anthony home (of course, there was the admitted lie about Zanny the Nanny taking her from a park). So, which Anthony family member did it? Who made up a bunch of lies and intentionally hindered the effort to find the little girl? I guess if the police had found the body sooner (and it seems like they should have), maybe the cause of death could have determined. That missing element was important to alternate juror 5. Maybe the others felt the same way.

This sounds pretty close, too, but I'm not sure how a paddle would feel worn at SOB. SIG 226 9/40/357 Retention Black Holster New Israeli Tactical Looks like the same thing as the Sig branded holster, just a lot cheaper.

Federal Champion 9mm that Wal-Mart sells shoots pretty dirty. It fouls up the piston on my P7 pretty quickly.

I got an email from CDNN on the $380 M&P's. Basically, Smith & Wesson is running a $50 factory rebate now. So, you pay CDNN $430 (which is still great) and get $50 back from S&W. I think the $430 price is for the thumb safety model, but from what I understand the safety is very easy to remove. If I get one, I'm keeping the thumb safety and installing an APEX competition kit.

honestly, there's a little bit of HK fanboy in me, and I have been planning on getting a P30 next. But for $380, it's really hard to justify not going with the M&P.

thanks, guys. Co-Op had what I was looking for.

Does anyone know where I can buy insecticides in Knoxville? I'm looking for Demon WP specifically, but I don't think that's the kind of stuff that Home Depot is going to carry. I can find it online, but I'd like to do some spraying this weekend.

My dad came to visit and was showing me his latest gun show acquisitions when he dropped the news that he was giving me these two: Colt Cobra .38 Special snubbie: and Smith & Wesson 686 6-inch .357 magnum: I don't know why he decided to give me these, but he said they don't have any sentimental value so he doesn't care if I keep or sell either. Revolvers aren't really my thing, but these have instant sentimental value simply because my dad gave them to me. So, I think I'm going to keep one and sell one to put toward something else. Which one would you keep? I'm leaning toward the Smith. The Cobra would be a dandy carry gun for someone who prefers revolvers, but that just isn't me. Also, when I gun shop, I don't look at revolvers. Consequently,I have no idea what these might be worth (didn't ask what he paid). Anyone know?

Clarification (Attorney or LEO Responses ONLY)

I do not practice criminal law and thus have no experience dealing with prosecutors and criminal court judges. But, I can look up statutes on Westlaw. The language you quoted probably refers to the statute that I have cited in full below: § 39-17-1322. Defenses to prosecution A person shall not be charged with or convicted of a violation under this part if the person possessed, displayed or employed a handgun in justifiable self-defense or in justifiable defense of another during the commission of a crime in which that person or the other person defended was a victim. The "part" referenced in the statute is Part 13 of Title 39, Chapter 17 of the TCA. Part 13 pertains to weapons offenses/issues like possession, sales, etc. Part 13 is also where the carry permit statutes can be found. You can browse the entire TCA at Michie's Legal Resources. I'm not going to offer any interpretation of the statute, other than to say it seems fairly plainly worded. For the "why" of the statute, you'd have to search for some legislative history. Alas, that's not within my westlaw subscription. -
I got a Beretta 92FS for Christmas when I was 12. This was in 1992 when Die Hard and Lethal Weapon were popular, so I wanted the same gun as the good guys. I still have it and shoot it in IDPA.

if you had another $100 to work with, I'd say find a Grade C HK P7.

'On Target' in Knoxville has a female instructor that teaches alongside the owner (Doug). I took their HCP course, and they were very friendly and helpful to folks in the class who had very little, if any, experience with firearms.

I always hear about awesome pawn shop scores, but I've never seen a good deal on a gun at one. Then again, I don't exactly go to pawn shops often. I'd say buying used at a pawn shop would be no different from buying from an individual or any other shop. You just need to know what you're looking at.

Excellent choice! My P7 rides in the same.
