HandGuN Permit Badge Opinion?
rentalguy1 replied to TNblues's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
FWIW...I'm in complete agreement about these things. I was just speaking of the ordinary citizen who lives in a small city, like I do, where we don't have a lot of undercover types. You know, the kind where nothing ever happens...mostly because 70% of the folks there have a HCP, an if they don't, their house is like the armory at a military base. All of the LEO's I know wear their badge when off duty, but it is as concealed as their handgun. No one shows it, unless absolutely necessary. I was not talking about strapping on a HCP badge and open carrying a .357 with a 8" barrel while visiting the crack house... -
HandGuN Permit Badge Opinion?
rentalguy1 replied to TNblues's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I get you. The painting orange thing is just weird. Cops can usually also be recognized by the uniform, and the big, rolling billboard with screaming siren and lights that they show up in, too. I'm just saying if that little badge causes someone who is about to shoot you (as a HCP) to pause, it would be worth the ridicule that is handed out in heaping doses on this board. -
HandGuN Permit Badge Opinion?
rentalguy1 replied to TNblues's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
IMHO...(and these are just my thoughts fellas): If someone wants to wear one of these, who the eff are you to say he should not? That's about the same as one of you telling the other that you shouldn't carry this weapon or that weapon, because that's what the cops carry, or you shouldn't wear dark blue bdu pants, because that's what some cops wear. I mean, really...What if that little silver trinket caught the eye of a fellow HCP'r and stopped them from mistakenly thinking you were a BG during a incident? What I guess I am saying is that these little trinkets have their purpose. I can see why someone may want one, but it seems that all you take a adolescent approach and think that the person just wants to be a cop. All of that said...I wouldn't want one. I would prefer that no one ever sees my weapon so that there would ever be a need for justification. I guess what I'm really trying to say is that I've read a few of these threads on here, and everyone seems to pile on for no good reason, and that seems juvenile to me. -
The only law he broke by not heeding the bar's sign was trespassing. I'm guessing that the shooter's story about the BG pulling a knife is most likely true and can be corroborated by numerous witnesses. If that's not the case, then the BG is not a BG at all, and instead he is a flaming idiot for not pressing charges.

There are many different answers, because there are many different scenarios. No two are alike...ever.

Ya...FallGuy cleared that up last night. He posted the actual statute on page 3 of this thread. Thanks, though. I'll be hanging out with one of my LEO friends tomorrow and I'll run it by him. He may have mis-spoke or maybe I even heard him wrong a few weeks ago after the judge overturned the new law.
-
Thanks strickj. That actually covers the question I was pondering in the "please help" thread, too. I'll discuss this with one of my LEO friends on Tuesday...while we are shopping for a new AR for him
-
I wonder how that contrasts to the other laws stating that you cannot CC in a bar? Also, wouldn't it still be considered self defense, even though there was no forcible/illegal entry into the bar?
-
Saints...please post the statute so I can show it to my LEO friends. It makes more sense to me that way, but then again, the law hardly ever makes "sense." TLRMADE... in your gas station scenario, it could go two ways. If the person with the gun is yelling "give me all the money!" then yes, it should be a justifiable shoot. If, however, the gunman is yelling "show me your hands!" or saying nothing at all, then you have no idea if he is a bad guy or a plain clothes LEO making a drug raid. Just be sure, before you pull the trigger. Your best bet in this situation would be to run for cover (while drawing your ccw and preparing to defend yourself and others), if you can, and then assess the situation a little better. It would suck to shoot a cop if you thought they were a BG. I'm not sure on the kidnapping scenario. I'm interested to read other's posts on it, though. I'm not seeing the immediate threat in that one.
-
That means you need to be 100% positive that the third party isn't actually a criminal being apprehended by a undercover police officer (who would be the person you are about to shoot).

According to all of my LEO friends, that's alcohol SELLING establishments, too. However, they have all also told me if I broke up a robbery at the Quikie Mart with my CCW, nobody on the local department would make a issue of it. Remember also on deadly force, it has to be what a "reasonable person" would perceive as a immediate threat of serious bodily harm or death. If grandpa is on the other side of a car threatening to whup yer a$$, that is not a real threat. If grandpa whips out a knife, it's still not a threat until he is on the same side of the car as you, and in close proximity. If grandpa pulls a handgun, send him on a one way journey to see his elders.

Does the castle doctrine still apply to the owner of a bar, where alcohol is served? I know it would in his home, but I'm not sure about inside the bar.

Basset's are definitely the cutest pups! This was our little bundle 6 years ago: As for Christmas, I got a few gunsmithing/pistolsmithing books, Carhartt clothes conducive to CC'ing and a new coffee maker (the kind without a carafe...finally!). The best gift was watching out 12 year old unwrap his Stephens 20 gauge. My dad got me my first shotgun at Christmas when I was 12, so I passed the tradition down.

How prepared are you mentally?

Glad you are safe, Sidewinder. Thank you for taking the appropriate actions, and thank you for your service. -
Experience speaks volumes. This is wise advice to heed.

Well, it was in the original plan, but then I decided I don't need it. As of last Friday night, I am shopping for a winch and a winch bumper...

reverse osmosis. It is a pressurized water filtration method that removes 99% of the impurities in water. It is so "clean" that it will not conduct electricity. This is due to the lack of natural mineral content after the filtration process. It also lacks chlorine, which means there is nothing to protect against bacteriological growth in the plastic piping and tap apparatus that is always used.
-
I will save my scientific and experienced opinion to myself. I worked for the leading water filtration company in the country, and then I reformed, got educated and licensed, and worked for a water treatment plant. All I can say to those of you that use a RO system is please don't drink a first draw from the RO tap. Flush it first. There is nothing beyond the final RO filter in the way of chlorine, and bacteria love to grow in plastic (re: Quest) piping. It's a double whammy. FWIW, I sold my parents a softener when I worked for that company, and I WILL have one in my home when I re-plumb, but I will NOT have a RO system.

Tried again today. We made it just past the last mobile home on the left (maybe 300 yards from the main road) before we came into this: FWIW...here's a couple of the JK in the snow:

A 4WD is worthless unless it has the proper tires on it. I am running 33" Maxxis Bighorn mud terrains on mine, and it would go anywhere I want. That doesn't mean that it might not need to be winched a few feet here and there, but anywhere that there is snow on pavement, I can go. Oh yeah...it has a lot to do with who's behind the wheel, too. You don't necessarily need experience (although it helps) as much as you need to remain calm and have the ability to make good decisions where traction is concerned. I decided to stop spending money on guns for a little bit and start putting it back into the JK. I am gonna get a winch bumper and a winch. I'm also gonna add some driving lights on the windshield frame. They would have come in handy last night.
-
I wanted to check and make sure that no trees had fallen and that there was no damage, but the tire tracks ended about 20 feet of the main road, so I decided not to try it. I don't have a winch on the Jeep yet, and I didn't have a second vehicle with me. I'd have hated to get stuck back in there with my son with me and my wife waiting for us to pick her up at the mall.

More Bristol pics (we had about 8") The state road that goes to my rod and gun club property: The rod and gun club's private road (decided not to try it without a winch or second vehicle) Various pics in teh are of the gun club: State Street, Bristol, TN/VA (TN on right, VA on left): Bristol Train Station (c. 1901): Oops! Let my basset hound outside to pee. When she discovered that the snow was about as deep as she is tall, she decided to take a leak right there on the walk! She was not very happy with the situation...

Wife got her animal control vehicle stuck in Bristol, VA yesterday afternoon. The finally allowed her to abandon it at 6:30 and I picked her up. This was our deck (east Bristol, TN) at about 9:00PM We ended up with 8"-9" I'd guess. Gonna try to take the Jeep out 4 wheeling after while!

I don't think a day care qualifies as a school, but I don't know for sure. I would leave mine in the vehicle even if I could carry there. I say that based on my experience of being mauled by a dozen 3 and 4 year olds when I would drop off, and pick up my son when he was in day care. That could quickly turn in to a accidental discharge, and it only takes them wanting to crawl all over you once. JMHO
