He really doesn't shoot it enough. Two boxes would last him quite a while. He just doesn't want to pay $100-150 bucks for 2 boxes. The main purpose of this gun is as a deer gun for his 8yo.

My cousin has a .222 rem mag and is having a hard time finding ammo for it. Anybody know of a good source where we can find it for less than $50 per box? Thanks.

I friend of mine was given a 410 sxs that didn't work. He didn't want to fool with it so he gave it to me. My initial reaction was what a piece of junk. There was rust spots all over the exterior. The safety was frozen and the main problem was the triggers would not reset. The more I held it and threw it up to my shoulder the more i like it. I decided that this could be a fun little gun to play around with. I took it apart to see what I was dealing with. Good gravy what a mess. There was rust and solidified oil every where. This looks like a job for the dremel with a little wire brush wheel. I took it apart and went to town on every piece of metal I could find. When I finished, everywhere I could reach was smooth and clean. Then I started using gun scrubber for the places the dremel would reach. Most of the parts where in good shape but I did replace some of the springs. I replaced the cocking lever springs, firing pin springs and the sear springs. I gave all the interior parts a nice light coating of lubricant and put it back together. I pushed the top lever and broke it open and heard the nice clicks of the triggers resetting. Closed it and pushed the safety to the off position and pulled the first trigger...click...pulled the second trigger...click...aaahhhhh Success!!!!!!! This turned out to be a fun little project. I've got maybe $25 invested in it and I couldn't be happier.

That's exactly the reason. The TWRA has said that it is to stop poaching. The state says we (permit holders) are responsible enough to carry our weapon with us just about everywhere we go. The TWRA thinks that as soon as we put our camo's on that we become immoral, unethical poachers that can't be trusted. I just don't get it. I believe that people should be trusted until they have proven they can't be trusted. It is pretty sad how cynical this world has gotten.

Unfortunately they really have their heads up their a$$ on this issue. There is no good reason to prohibit carrying while hunting. Of course you can carry it during gun season as long as the caliber is big enough and the barrel is 4" long. This means I can't carry during archery season, muzzleloader season or turkey season. And during gun season I can not carry my SW 638, I have to carry my 1911. It is an idiotic rule. OK rant off...

I am also a big guy. Actually a little bigger than you. I used to carry a Kahr P45. I had the same problems as you. The back of the slide would become uncomfortable when doing certain things. I ended up switching my carry gun to a SW 638. It is much more comfortable to carry because of its shape. I carry mine in a Kramer IWB holster with no problems. It also fits nicely in my shorts pocket.

Ruger MK II & III are a blast to shoot. Top gun in the pic is my MK II that used to have the slab side barrel in the bottom of pic on it. It was a tack driver. The 2nd gun in the pic is my MK III. You can never have to many .22's

Since deer season opens tomorrow let share some of our favorite recipes. Here is one of my favorites: Carne Asada Venison Put the following ingredients into a blender: 1 jar (16oz) of your favorite salsa 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup lime juice 1 packet Lipton Onion soup mix Blend until smooth. Take your favorite cut of meat and pour the blended mixture over the meat. I usually use a ziplock back or tupperware. Reserve some of the mixture for brushing on while grilling and some as a dipping sauce. Let this marinate overnight at least but I usually let it marinate for 2 days. The acids from the salsa and lime juice really help tenderize the meat. When ready to cook take the meat out of the marinade and throw the marinade away. You can now either pan fry it or throw it on the grill. What ever you do don't cook it past medium rare. Thats some good eating right there.
