Pick up a bow holder yesterday at Bass Pro. It is the kind that is an arm that screws into the tree and folds out so you can hang your bow on it.

21-Year-Old Flown To Vanderbilt After Hunting Incident
KahrMan posted a topic in Hunting and Fishing
Be careful out there guys... 21-Year-Old Flown To Vanderbilt After Hunting Incident - NewsChannel 5.com - Nashville, Tennessee - NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Maury County man was shot at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency's controlled dove hunt, and the shooter was an 11-year-old boy. The victim, 21-year-old Alex Berlin of Columbia, was shot in the face and chest by 8-10 pellets according to sources on the scene. The weapon was a 20-gauge shotgun. Officials said the weapon was smaller and less powerful than a 12-gauge shotgun. The victim was alert and talking on the scene Tuesday evening, but he could lose his right eye because of the incident. Berlin was in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Hospital Tuesday night. Some expressed the controlled hunt was too crowd. "We've had fields as high as 150 before, so actually today is a slow day for us. I've been in Maury County on the fields for almost 12 years, and this is the first accident we've had," said TWRA officer Tommy Edwards. The TWRA and Maury County Sheriff's Department were conducting a joint investigation. The boy was on the hunt legally, and he was accompanied by his father. -
That was awesome. Great job.

Your head cold must not be affecting your sense of humor...that right there is funny, I don't care who you are! -
That's good advice. I have eaten a few things from a strip club I probably shouldn't have...

+1 What he said. Sell it here. I have also sold guns to people from out of state that were listed here. The for sale sections gets a lot of views.

I have about an acre of field on a piece of property I hunt that I need to get somebody to disc up. My buddy and I will do all the finishing work on the field. We just need someone to break up the ground for us. Anybody near south fairview that has a small tractor and disc that wants to make a little extra money, let me know... Thanks

New Muzzleloader season this year - not sure i like it
KahrMan replied to KahrMan's topic in Hunting and Fishing
Yes. I am saying the opening weekend of gun season will probably be down. Overall muzzleloader numbers should be way up because its two weeks are in early to mid november. Traditionally ml season was 1 week in early November and 1 week in early to mid december. -

I agree that the overall harvest will probably be up but I think opening weekend will be down. I think the longer muzzleloader season takes some of the excitement away from opening weekend. -
New Muzzleloader season this year - not sure i like it

In the past you generally had the first week in November as archery(1-7), 2nd week muzzleloader(8-14), 3rd week back to archery then gun season opened around 20th(give or take a day or two). This year archery runs from November 2-6 then muzzleloader goes from 7-20 and gun season open on the 21st. Muzzleloaders these days are for all intense purposes just as effective as guns, especially in middle Tn where your average shot is probably under a hundred yards. It was nice having a buffer week of archery before gun season opened up. You had less people and noise in the woods that week. Now you are going to be hearing gunshots from the 7th on. I bet that when the stats come out after the season that opening weekend harvest numbers are going to be way down. Anybody else have any thought on this? -
There are certain guns that are just timeless classics. The Ruger #1 is one for me. I have always loved the look of #1's. One of my all time favorite deer rounds is the 45-70. These bid ole heavy slow bullets really put the smack down on deer. Well a couple of weeks ago I saw another TGOer selling a Ruger#1 in 45-70. So I took it off his hands. I put a Leupold VX II on it and took it out last weekend. What a sweet shooter. At 50 yards I out 2 shots through the same hole and at a hundred the next two shots were touching. To say the least I am thrilled. Cant wait to take it out deer hunting with me this fall. Thanks Glockster157.

Since I am using this as a backup I like carrying a more compact 1911 verse a 7.5" hunting revolver. If I am going to strictly hunt with a handgun then I use a revolver in 44mag or 454 casull.

I like to carry my 1911 when I go deer hunting just as a back up to my rifle. I only use it if a deer happens to walk close by the stand. If I am going to strictly hunt with a handgun then I use a revolver in 44mag or 454 casull.

I am not the most knowledgeable about the best makers of barrels so I relied on Jeff Meister down at Hero Gear. He is the one who is making the HG line of 1911's. He suggested going with a Jarvis barrel. Says they are very high quality. The barrel was in the $220 range. Jeff then worked his magic to make sure everything fit and worked together properly. Give Jeff a call and I am sure he can hook you up.

I was down at Hero Gear the other day looking at a 10mm Dan Wesson. I made the comment that I like carrying my 1911 with me when I go hunting but wanted a 10mm. Joe told me that if I didn’t want to buy a whole new gun that their gunsmith, Jeff, could hand fit a 400 Corbon barrel to my Kimber. So then all I would have to do is switch out barrels and I would have two different guns. Since it would cost about 1/3 of what a new DW 10mm would cost I said lets do it. 400 Corbon carries from about the same to a little bit more velocity and energy than the 10mm. Hunting loads in 170-180 grain bullets are running around 1300-1330 fps and carry 668-676 ftlbs. That is about a 50% increase in velocity and energy over .45 acp +p. Now I need to take her out and do some shooting. I am interested in finding out what kind of muzzle blast and recoil the 400 Corbon has. In the pic that is the 45 barrel on the side. That is two rounds of 165 gr 400 Corbon I got to plink with. Big thanks to Joe, Jeff and all the guys down at Hero Gear!

One thing you should check. The TWRA prohibits handguns with barrels shorter than 4 inches to be used for big game hunting. That may mean you can not carry during deer season if your carry gun has a barrel shorter than 4 inches because it would be a prohibited weapon by the twra.
