So I go to the La Vergne PD...
KahrMan replied to E4 No More's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
As a HCP holder I do not like it when anywhere posts. It does not matter if it is a "safe" place or not. It is another place telling me I can not carry. Now here is my real problem with them posting. Look at it from the antis side. I can here them making this argument... Well hell, if the police don't trust hcp holders then why should we. If they have to post their office, why shouldn't all business be posted? -
You rock Fallguy. Thanks for the clarification. I am really glad I was wrong. Sounds like they actually got the law the way it should be. To everybody else, sorry for the confusion.

From the TWRA Hunting Guide
-
First off let me say that we may need some further clarification. I believe that the TWRA regulations have final say on what is and is not legal during hunting seasons. The TWRA opposed the carry in parks law just for this reason. They have no way of knowing if the person with a firearm is hiking or hunting illegally. I think they made a compromise in the bill that gave the TWRA authority over what is carried where during hunting seasons. I will try to research this a little further.

Ohio is correct. Your pistol mush have at least a 4" barrel for you to carry it with you deer hunting. Also, you can only carry it during gun season, not during archery or muzzleloader seasons. Having a hcp makes no different on this. You are only allowed to carry weapons specified by the TWRA when hunting. Doesn't matter if you are carrying your pistol for self defense only. It still must meet the minimum requirements set forth by the TWRA to have it on your person when hunting. You also do not need a hcp to carry a pistol when hunting. Just make sure it is unloaded when you are transporting it to and from your hunting location.

I shoot Triple 7 pellets. If you shoot either 100grs or 150 grs it is a lot easier than measuring out powder.

A little bit of advice..... stool softner...or your head and shoulder will not be the only thing hurting...

If you read that page you will see he custom made that for a guy in a wheelchair. This was about function, so the guy could rack the slide with his disabled hand. It shows great ingenuity and workmanship on the smiths part.

Brian Hassler at Franklin Gun Shop. He is very knowledgeable about old firearms.

There is a thread in the vendor section i think that details Joe's dealings with Spikes. They royally screwed him. Read the thread and you may change your mind on how you feel about Spikes as a company.

Have killed deer in the past with two different hanguns. The first was with a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in 44mag. I have also taken a doe with my 45acp Kimber 1911. This summer I had my Kimber fitted with a 400 Corbon barrel. That is what I will be carrying in the woods with me come gun season.

Well said Canynracer!

I do not discriminate...I love pancakes, waffles and french toast. Of course you have to have sausage and bacon with them.

What a generous offer. Wish I was a little closer.

I feel for ya oldguy. The deer population in middle tn has gone crazy. I just check the twra regs and I was a little off on the number of anterless deer you can take. With a Sportsman license or a regular big game license and a type 94 permit, you can take 315 anterless deer in Unit L (middle tn). ding, ding ding...We have a winner. Personally I think this response sums it best so far.

That is the way I was raised also. Don't shoot something if you are not going to use it. I have been tempted but have never done it. I assumed most everybody would have this opinion but still wanted to hear what others had to say.

My hunting buddy and I have been discussing this for awhile. I am interested in yalls opinion. I know this will not apply everywhere but it does to middle Tennessee. The problem: We are over populated with deer. TWRA gives us very liberal limits when it comes to does. Last time I figured it up it was well over 100 does you could take during the season. I can't begin to count the number of does I have let walk because I didn't want to fool with processing the deer myself or pay somebody else to do it. So here is the question: Do you think is is ok to shoot a doe and only take the backstraps and tenderloins? In this scenario the rest of the deer would go to waste. It is pretty easy to pull the skin back and get the backstraps out. What takes so much time is boning the rest of the meat out. It is very tedious to bone out the different cuts, remove all the connective tissue and silver skin etc... So what do you all think? We need to reduce the number of does but should you or I kill more does if we are not going to use the whole deer?

My current favorite is my Marlin 1895 in 45-70 with the barrel cut down to 16 inches. It has a Leupold 2x scope mounted up front. Very fast target acquisition. It is a sweet little thumper!

That is pretty good advice above. Can not go wrong with any of the above rounds.

I used to have a 454 barrel for my T/C Encore. It was a custom made 20" barrel by Virgin Valley. With that set up it was a great little woods carbine. Never have shot the 454 out of a pistol. With the 20" barrel I felt confident out to 150 yards. I have had Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunters in 44mag and 480 ruger. I never felt comfortable shooting over 100yards with a 7.5" barrel.

Johnny came home and said Dad, Dad, look at my new bike. Dad asked johnny where he had gotten the new bike. Johnny said he got for sleeping with his teacher. Well Johnnys dad couldn't help but feel a little proud of his son. He tells johnny to go out and ride his new bike. Johnny says I will later, my butt is still sore.
