  1. It was nice meeting you Neil.  It is not exactly cheap but it would be pretty useful, especially for solo hunts.   I think it would make using a spotting scope a lot easier.
  2. One of the coolest things I saw at the NWTF vendor show was the iScope booth. This adapter allows you to mount your iphone or other smartphone to your scope, spotting scope or binoculars. Download their app, .99Cents, and use your phones screen as your viewfinder. This makes it really easy to film your hunt or take pics. Since you phones camera is looking thru the scope you see the crosshairs on your screen and that is how you aim. Check out their site. It is a pretty cool product. http://theiscope.com/wordpress/ Watch the video with Jeff Foxworthy. It shows all the uses of the iscope.
  3. If you like to fish off the rock walls and beach, here is a place to go. Harbor Blvd is the main drag thru Destin. Turn onto Gulf Shore Drive and drive to the end and you will find a little parking lot. You have to walk across a sand dune to get to the rock wall. Use a cast net to catch some bait and have fun.
  4. I oversee healthcare for my company.  We just renewed our policy two weeks ago.  We are a fairly health company so our increase was not to bad.     We offer two plans:  PPO and High Deductible w/ a HSA(Health Savings Account)  To add a spouse to our plan it costs 322 for the PPO and 293 for the HD.  Like others have said, a lot of things effect the monthly price.  Co-pays, deductibles, total out of pocket, prescription benefits etc.   It is not right for everybody, but a High Deductible Health Plan is worth looking into.  Generally the total out of pocket is less.  This is because they expect you to be more frugal with healthcare because you pay 100% of the cost till you hit your out of pocket.  There are no co pays.  The advantage to this is you get to have a HSA.  HSA's are funded with pre-tax dollars, like a 401K.  By funding it with pre tax dollars, it does two things. 1) it reduces the taxes you pay.  ex. you make 1000 a paycheck.  You put 200 into your hsa.  Your taxes taken out of you check are based on the 800. 2) Since you are paying for medical with pretax dollars, it is like getting a discount on your medical.  If you are in the 20% tax rate then in effect you are getting a 20% discount on your medical bills.  The money in your HSA can ONLY be used for medical expenses and it does roll over year to year.
  5. That is really cool.  The possibilities are endless.
  6. I received a solar charger for iPhones for Christmas.  It is made to hang on the back of a backpack so it charges while you are hiking.  It also has a battery pack that charges up so you can have power at night or extended bad weather.  I will take a pic of it and post it this weekend.
  7. One odd advantage of using my cpap is I always know when the power goes off at night.  Went off a couple of times last night and each time I woke up because it became very hard to breathe.
  8. Not sure.  I am still looking for that answer.
  9. I know you are not allowed to sell ammo you reload with out a license.  Are you allowed to trade it or is that considered the same thing?  The reason I am asking is because I have a flat of 12 ga skeet loads.  I used to shoot a lot of skeet so I reloaded my own ammo.  I do not shoot skeet any more.  This flat, 250 rounds, has been sitting in my garage for a couple of years.  Am I stuck with it or is there a legal way to move it.'   Thanks
  10.       As the old joke goes...it's a dick you putz.
  11. From the CEO of National Wild Turkey Federation     The Role of Hunter in the Debate about Firearm Control  Sportsmen were the original conservationists and remain the driving force in conservation today. By purchasing hunting and fishing licenses, paying a voluntarily imposed excise tax on all firearms, ammunition and other sporting equipment (Pittman–Robertson Act and Dingell-Johnson Act), and supporting conservation organizations, sportsmen pay for 80 percent or more of conservation efforts in this country. The preservation of our hunting heritage and conservation is intertwined, and without sportsmen the conservation movement as we know it today would cease to exist.  Hunters truly are Champions of Conservation.  Without hunting and without hunters, conservation in North America as we know it would not exist. The NWTF has worked to ensure that our ability to hunt and the skills for hunting are passed on to future generations.  We have worked to reduce legal barriers to hunting and succeeded in 38 states, resulting in the purchase of 800,000 new hunting licenses.  We introduce almost 100,000 people to the outdoors each year through NWTF programs. This helps to create new hunters and builds an understanding among those who may not become hunters of the role that sportsmen play in preserving the outdoor spaces and wildlife that everyone enjoys.  The right to bear arms is another pillar supporting the continuation of the hunting tradition. It is critical that we not lose sight of this as the gun control debate takes place. We must remember that the efforts to preserve our hunting heritage can be undone if we add new barriers to hunting by limiting the tools that the vast majority of sportsmen depend on to hunt. The NWTF remains committed to protecting our hunting rights and, as a result, is committed to supporting the protection of our Second Amendment rights.  Modern sporting rifles are an important tool for many hunters, and the NWTF works to ensure hunters can continue to use modern firearms. There has been a lot of talk about “assault weapons” and semi-automatic firearms recently. As active shooters and hunters, we know that AR-15 style firearms and .223 caliber rifles have become common among predator, small game and hog hunters, as well as recreational shooters. We will fight efforts to portray these firearms in a negative light. These inalienable rights are not only critical to the preservation of a free society, ensuring that Americans have the ability to protect themselves and their families, but are inseparable from this nation’s hunting tradition.  By staying focused on the principles our founders established, we will protect the things most important to us and future generations.  In these times it is important that sportsmen raise our voices together to be heard.  Thank you for supporting the NWTF as we work to protect our hunting heritage and our right to utilize the firearms that make sense for our chosen sports of shooting and hunting. Sincerely, George C. Thornton CEO
  12. If it's not to late, I would like to throw my hat in the ring as well.
  13. Raoul posted this in Newsworthy Reports   Eastern Sport and Outdoor Show has been cancelled.   http://washingtonexaminer.com/nra-boycott-kills-outdoors-show-that-banned-assault-weapons/article/2519579        EDIT - guess I should have read the thread better.  Looks like D3vo already posted this.
  14. You might want to check out Davidson County Sportsman's Club.  They are located off Eatons Creek Pike.  Their range goes to 150-200 yards.  Nice little club.  Not sure if they have a waiting list or not.  You can find out some info here:  http://dcscinc.ning.com
  15. This ^ is what I thought was the most important aspect of the whole story.
  16. The Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show is like a mini SHOT Show.  It is a huge show that has been around for a long time.  Reed Exhibitions puts on the show.  This year they made the decision that so-called assault rifles and high-capacity ammunition magazines will not be allowed to be displayed or sold at the show this year.  Right after the announcement sponsors started pulling out.  We are not talking little guys either.  Cabela's, NWTF just to name a couple of big ones.  Here is the list of the sponsors/celebrities that have pulled out.     Abner Druckenmiller Ambush Firearms American Whitetails of PA Antler Insanity Appalachian Big Game TV Arrowhead Outdoors Athens Archery Atlantic Tactical Avian-X Decoys Bangin Redhedz Bear Archery Blitz TV The Bear Whisperer Bob Mercier Bohning Archery Bone Collectors Boondock Outdoors Bowfreakz.com BowHunter Planet Bowhunting.com Cabela's Campbell Cameras Camo Addiction CanCooker Chris Brackett Cold Steel Knives Continental Divide Outfitters Cross Canyon Arms Cutting Edge Bullets Dead Ringer Direct Action Tactical Firearms Domari Nolo Defense Consulting Dominator 365 Down N Dirty Outdoors DuckWater Boats Eastern Chapter Wild Sheep Foundation Eastern Outdoors Eddie Salter Family Traditions TV Farmland Trophies Outfitting Firearms Industry Consulting Group Foiles Migrators Forbes Turkey Calls FoxPro Game Calls Fred Eichler Full Circle Outdoors Ghost River Outfitters Gone Wild Outdoors Gut-N-Tag Haley Heath Heartland Whitetails Hevi-Shot High Lonesome Outfitters HookHunt Hunters and Guides Connection Hunter Safety Systems Hunter's Specialties International Bowhunting Organization IceHole Coolers IScope Jay Gregory Jim Shockey Keystone Country Store Keystone Elk Country Alliance King of the Mountain Inc. 17. Canoes and choppy water can be a little sketchy.  Glad you guys made it back ok.   I still have the Coleman Scanoe that I grew up fishing in with my dad.  We would go down to Decatur, AL and fish the back waters of the Tennessee River.  Once day dad decided he wanted to fish the other side of the river.  We had a little 3.5 hp motor mounted so we scooted across to the other side with no problems.  While on that side, a thunderstorm blew up.  That had to be about 1980 and I still vividly remember crossing the main channel in the thunderstorm and real choppy water.
  18. The one who shall not be named, Rabbi not Kwik, told me about this site in 2007.  Been here ever since.
  19. I am not a very adventurous beer drinker. I usually stick to a couple of domestics that I know that I like. Heard about this beer the other day and found it yesterday. You have to get it liquor stores because it is higher a content beer. It is a nice beer with a hint of bourbon and a nice smokey oak flavor. I really like it.
