  1. Deer farming is big business. There are farms that work on genetics to grow huge antlers. They sell them as breeding stock or to high fence operations.
  2. We have been talking about this buck in the official deer thread. I just hope he did not do anything dishonest. First thing I thought when I saw that rack was it looked like a deer farm deer. Just because a deer even close to that has never been killed in TN does not mean it is not a wild deer but does make me wonder.
  3. I was just thinking about this. Hope we do it again.
  4. New state record and potential world record non typical was killed this week in Summer county. This thingbos a beast. Right now it is only about an inch bigger than the world record. It will probably be under after the drying period. Something like 47 points and scored 308 2/8.
  5. That plan is a HDHP, high deductible health plan. They should offer a standard pop type plan that should cost less with a lower deductible but higher out of pocket maximum. Now the one advantage of a HDHP is that you can start a HSA or Health Saving Account. You fund that account with pre tax dollars and use it to pay your medicals bills. That way you are automatically getting a discount of whatever your tax rate is verse paying with after tax dollars. This type of plan is usually good for someone who has a lot of medicals bills or is very healthy. Heres why. If you have a lot of bills, HDHP plans usually have a lower out of pocket maximum than a traditional ppo. Since they cost more up front, they make the back end lower. It is also good for a really healthy person because they can start saving money up in the HSA. If you fund your HSA for a couple of years you can the just let it sit and have the money to pay for medical expense in case of an emergency. Unlike FSA's, flexible spending accounts, HSA's are not sue it or lose it accounts. The money always rolls over from year to year. The account also stays with if you leave the company or switch to a non HDHP plan.
  6. Congrats. Saw five does this morning. Somehow I managed to miss an easy shot on a nice fat doe. At least the deer were moving. Did not see any during bow season the few times I got out.
  7. Picked this up for dad. Looking forward to trying it. It is supposed to be really nice. Chivas Regal 21 year old.
  8. Good luck to everybody starting at 6:44 central time in the morning. At least it will be cooler than opening day of bow season.
  9. Just had a glass and it is really good. The first flavor you pick up is a little sweet and then you start picking more traditional whiskey flavors as a little heat builds and finishes with a subtle smokey flavor. The guy who sold it said it was almost a cross between a scotch and bourbon. I really liked it. It is pricey. They had two other Japanese whiskeys that were less expensive, in the $80 range, that he said were very good also. I am going to try those next.
  10. A week after Arby’s announced it would serve deer meat at select locations throughout the month of November, a Nashville-area restaurant sold out of the sandwiches in just five hours on Tuesday. According to The Tennessean, the restaurant sold 100 sandwiches in an hour and completely sold out of its allotment of 250 by mid-afternoon. The high demand ended what was supposed to be a three-day promotion in just five hours. Arby’s will begin selling the sandwiches — which also include crispy onions and a juniper berry sauce — at restaurants in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Atlanta beginning Friday. For a full list of restaurants that will serve the venison sandwiches, click here.
  11. Does not seem to be acting correct. Some threads say no replays when they have replys and other threads I would reply to and the thread would not move to top of the list.
  12. Jim you to start using Tapatalk to post your pics. You can post them straight from your phones camera roll. Be glad to stop by your office one morning and show if you want.
  13. We usually look good against crappy teams. lol
  14. Just remember that the pellets arrive in their dry state. You need to add a little water to get them slick again. Oh and don't forget to pick out any rodent bones...they will really foul up an action.
  15. Venison steaks are not easy to get tender. They should not be cooked past medium rare in a thick piece like in the picture. I have a feeling this is not going to be a hit. I will try it though.
  16. When these were first made they shot a rimfire cartridge. Thats why you see two firing pin holes in the pic below. However, with the adoption of the 8mm M1889 Krag-Jorgensen the need to update or abandon the Remington design became acute. In 1896 they were withdrawn from infantry service, converted to centerfire cartridge and issued to coast and fortress artillerymen. This rifle was made in 1882 and converted to 11.7x51 somewhere around 1896-1897.
  17. Don't know a lot about the old stuff but I did just pick up a Danish m-1867 rolling block in 11.7 Danish (basically a 45-70). It is a cool old rifle.
