I am going to check out a Winchester 1300 this weekend. The seller is asking a little more than I want to spend. But, after all the research I have done lately, this particular model may turn out to be the exact shotgun I have been looking for.

The gentleman I saw that day did not happen to have anything I was interested in. But, I could not help to overhear the conversation. I think the gentle man accepted the trade-in value offered for two of his guns, and decided to keep the third. Hearing this just happened to get me thinking about the situation. I also think it would be rude to interrupt negotiations. But, I would likely talk to the clerk and gun owner if I ever saw something I was interested in. If the shop ended up buying from the seller, I would imagine the shop would cut you a good deal to make a quick profit, instead of letting the gun sit in the display case. In my opinion, it would be also be rude to offer only a few dollars more than the gun shop. Let us say the shop is offering $225,and the owner wants $400. Offering $250 would likely piss off everyone. However, if the shop and owner could not reach an agreement, I do not think the shop should be too mad if you offered the seller $350. At least in this hypothetical situation. I like the idea of giving the shop an opportunity to do a transfer for a fee. Or, perhaps simply offering the shop a finders fee would suffice. Then again, I am a newbie to the world of guns and I will likely find many things to ponder. I thank all of you for sharing your thoughts.

I was leaning toward a Ruger GP100. This just happened to be the model I was really wanting, SS, 4", and to top it off, with the grip I wanted. I could not believe my eyes when I saw it for sale.

A few weeks ago, I was at a LGS. A gentleman brought in 3 handguns to trade in for a new one. It seemed the shop made reasonable offers on the guns, considering the shop needs to sell for a profit. However, I am sure the gentleman could have gotten more money by making a private sale. Would it have been appropriate to offer the gentleman more money than the gun shop, right in front of the shop salesman? The staff at the LGS have always been very nice. I would hate to step on any toes by making an offer on a gun that the shop is about to purchase.

I finally bit the bullet, so to speak. I found something I could not pass up. My very own Ruger GP100, and at a very good price. The lock-up, timing, and gap all seem to be quite good...at least from my barely educated judgement. I checked the serial number on Ruger's site and it was made in 2000. I can't wait until this weekend, so I can go test her out. Now, if I could only find a shotgun at a good price

I would love to try a 617. However, I don't know anyone that owns one. I saw one for sale a few weeks ago on Armslist, it was an older 6 shooter instead of the newer 10 shot.

I would like to have a .22lr revolver also. I would not mind having a taurus (model 94 it think) .22lr

At least it is not supposed to be in the 100s tomorrow.

Thanks for the invite, TrickyNicky. I shot a GP100 at On Target...that is where I caught the bug. I would love to own one, but I have not seen any for sale in my area. Bassoneer, you are probably right. I will likely shoot a bunch of .357 loads my first few times at the range. After that, it will likely be more .38s. I would love to find a 5" GP100.

I guess the S&W problems I heard about were the ones DaveTN and gregintenn mentioned. I do not pretend to know much about revolvers. I just know that if I shoot a revolver half as much as I have been shooting my 9mm, I could be putting over 250 rounds through it per month. Out of 250 rounds, I am sure 100-150 of them will be full .357 loads. So, I want something that will take a pounding and ask for more. Please forgive me, I was in no way trying to insinuate that a Rossi is better than a S&W. I was just saying that I have heard Rossi made a decent gun, for the price. Edit: You beat me too it LCPfraTN. You must type faster than I do. LOL

I have e-mailed a seller about a Ruger Police Service Six that is in my area. I do not have any real information about it yet, other than it has some holster wear, but I am interested. He is asking $350. I am hoping to get some more info on it, before I set up a FTF.

I will likely buy my first revolver soon. I am looking at used DA/SA .357s. I want something that can handle a steady diet of full power. 357 loads. I know S&W make quality revolvers, but I hear that they are not designed to handle the stresses that constant full power .357 loads can dish out. I have also heard that almost all Rugers, even the older ones, are built like tanks, and should be able to handle anything you feed them. I have heard the same about Dan Wessons. On the lower end of the scale, Rossi is supposed to be a good gun for the money. I would like to hear your oppinions on this subject.

I understand that. It is not a short drive from Columbia either. I hope there are at least one or two things that interest me.

Let's hope the temperature is at least tolerable this weekend. I can stand the heat in the kitchen but, not the oven. I have a few things in mind, and I know what I am willing to pay for them. If something else catches my eye, I will definitely use my phone to do some price checking. It is my first smart phone and I got it less than a week ago. I am loving it. Current technology certainly makes it harder for a seller to get one over on a buyer. You gotta love having a world of information at your fingertips.

I dealt with them once, it was a good experience.

I am planning to go to the gun show at Dickson, TN this weekend. I am a gun show newbie, I have only been to one, and that was a few years ago. I wanted to go to more, but I was laid-off of work for over 2 years and did not have much money to spend. I am back to work now, and have money burning a whole in my pocket. I wanted to attend the show in Nashville last week but, I was asked (compelled) to work overtime. I have a few questions... Is the gun show at Dickson worth attending? Are there any tips I can get from veteran show goers? What are some things to look for when buying a used revolver?

I like Kings Firearms and More here in Columbia. They have a good selection of Handguns and long guns. I am not into reloading. So, I have never paid attention to their reloading supplies. Kings has a friendly, no pressure staff, that is more than willing to chit chat, and let you fondle the merchandise.

The local Dunham's sells Moss 500, 20", 7+1, bead sight, for about $325. The more I think about it, the more I want to skip the Maverick and go strait for the 500. I saw a picture of a 24" pump with a +4 tube extension. I like the look of that as well. I don't know if it was a Moss or a Rem though...and I can't remember where I saw the picture Oh well, I will nail it down and make an actual decision one day.

I checked out a used Maverick 88 at the LGS. It had dual extractors.

I have had my Beretta U22 for a few years now, and I really enjoy it. The cost of mags has gone up since I first bought them, from $10 each to around $20+. I have only had two problems with mine. My U22 does not like non copper plated rounds. Those plain lead bullets seem to dirty up the gun causing feeding problems after 300 rounds or so. Well, the only lead nose rounds I have shoot through it are CCI standard velocity. Then again, I have heard that most 22s will dirty up faster, and then have feeding issues, with plain lead rounds. The other problem, it is far too easy to shoot over 500 rounds in one session I am thinking about adding a .22 revolver, to help cut my ammo costs.

Do the Mavericks have dual extractors?

One thing to keep in mind...if you buy a 20" barrel with the extended tube mag, you may have problems attaching a longer barrel. It depends on the gun, some will require you to change out the mag tube in order to change out the barrel. If this is the case, it may be cheaper to buy 2 separate shotguns, than it would be to buy 1 gun with 2 mags and 2 barrels.

I am all in favor of supporting the LGS, even to the point of paying a little more. But, if the LGS is are charging too much more than Wally World, then the empire will likely get my cash... Now, if only the local Wally World would carry the M&P 15 Sport.

I also prefer a standard stock, so the 500's safety location would be fine with me. Also agreed, I will likely end up with a 20" Maverick, and a second shotty for shooting clays.
