We used to see this fairly regularly with .45acp lead SWC ammo in pistols with tight chambers. What happens is that lead buildup in the barrel prevents full chambering, and the firing pin spring allows the firing pin to impact the primer when the slide stops suddenly. Based on the last round's bullet setback, the round that KB'd may have had the same type of setback from a loose crimp. In that's true, the charge would have been compressed, leading to a more powerful KB than would otherwise have happened. Lead bullets and autoloaders usually are not a good mix. If you want to fire lead bullets, then you have to be very careful to ensure that all leading is removed from the bore and chamber. Additionally, I would suggest that you reload all of your cartridges. And this time, make sure that the crimp is tighter. I'm glad that nobody was injured. I've had the same thing happen to me with a Colt Series 80 Gold Cup.

Gubernatorial Candidates positions on guns
1gewehr replied to Mike.357's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Ron Ramsey is the only one who actually believes in the 2nd amendment. His support of 2nd amendment issues is well documented. Wamp and Haslem are just saying what they think needs to be said to get elected. -
Who is FUNDING those idiots? That was an expensive boat they trashed! I have NO sympathy for radical environmentalists. Bunch of watermelons, 'green on the outside, red on the inside'. If they were truly interested in reducing waste and protecting species, they would be supporting research efforts to find alternative methods and sources of materials. I wonder why Sea Shepherd doesn't try these methods on the Caribbean islanders that hunt whales from small boats with harpoons?

Also, I would like to add that NO 'pro-gun' organization has given ANY help to Richard Hamblen. The NRA has not even graced him with a reply to a request for assistance. While I am an NRA member, it is NOT because they do anything to to stop or repeal gun control. EVERY Federal firearms act was written with help from the NRA. The NRA has never repealed a single firearms law. I have written the NRA to suggest that the Hamblen case would be an excellent opportunity to clear up once and for all the EXACT meaning of the 2nd Amendment. I haven't heard from them either.

No criminal has EVER been stopped from acquiring a firearm due to a 'background check'. The whole concept of the background check is feel-good theater just like the TSA security checks at airports. Let's face it, you can buy a 'novelty driver's license' for any state in the US that looks exactly like a real one. As long as a criminal uses a real name, address and DL number, it will pass any ID check and nobody will ever be the wiser. Any cashier (grocery store, power company, cable company, etc) has access to DL numbers from anyone who uses a check to purchase goods or services. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard that the TICS check is what keeps us from being able to buy firearms without ANY background check. The HCP check uses TICS, not NICS. If it used NICS, then the ATF would accept a TN HCP as proof of a background check and there would be no $10 fee for any firearm purchase as long as you had a HCP.

The pressure curve needs to be a close to the military load as possible. Garands can bend (expensive) operating rods with bad loads.

There are about a zillion ways to measure comparable value. Using the government Consumer Price Index is virtually worthless due to the way the Feds have cooked the books over the years. A good website showing a variety of comparisons can be found here: Measuring Worth - Relative Value of US Dollars

It's really quite simple. The 2nd amendment very clearly protects the right of the citizenry to acquire, own, and carry weapons suitable for militia use. That is, weapons currently suitable for military use. this was very clearly spelled out in US v Miller. In that case, the reason the 1934 National Firearms Act was upheld was because the nobody bothered to show the Supreme Court that a short-barreled shotgun had military use. Any halfway competent attorney could have dredged up hundreds of accounts of shortened shotguns being carried by Us soldiers for use in trench combat and prisoner guarding duties. Any honest court would have to agree tht the original intent, clear language, and historical record all support the free and open sale, transport, and ownership of machine guns just like any other firearm. Do I think it will happen? About as likely as Obama abolishing the income tax.

Keep in mind that even though the prices seem low, the dollar was actually worth something then. Also, the $200 tax stamp was a much larger percentage of the cost of ownership. A simple formula is that during the '50's, the dollar could buy about 20 times what it can today, and wages were about 1/20th what they are now. That $200 tax in 1959 was equivalent to about $4000 today.

This POS is un-Constitutional on so many levels that it would be ludicrous if it wasn't so maddening!

Hey/First 'regular' post/historical puzzler...

It ain't true, anyway. The only legitimate function of government is to protect the rights of it's citizens. Nothing more, nothing less. The Federal government does NOT do this. -

ANY firearm over 50 years old is a C&R. A firearm is defined as the 'Frame or receiver'. As long as you use the original frame or receiver, it's a C&R. That whole 'original configuration' argument only applies to importing firearms.

Sorry, I don't see any reason to spend that much money on an inferior revolver. Get an original pre-lock model in excellent condition and it will undoubtedly last much longer and be more reliable.

There are lots of parallels between narcotics and alcohol regulation. Prior to 1913 there were no controls on either. Alcoholism was pretty common at about 6% of the population. Narcotic abuse was about 3%. Then comes Prohibition, alcoholism showed NO DECLINE! As controls on narcotics were implemented, drug abuse went UP. When Prohibition was repealed, alcoholism started to decline. After the War on Drugs was announced by Nixon, narcotics sales started to rise. They have fluctuated over the years, but there has been no decline. Today, narcotics abuse is STILL about 3%!!! Cocaine prices are lower than they were ten years ago in spite of the billions we have spent to keep it out of the country. My view on gangs is simple. If a person is a violent felon and danger to society, then they should be locked up when caught and convicted. If they are not a dangerous person, then they should be out working to pay restitution to their victims. A person who accidentally commits vehicular manslaughter is not a danger to society and should be working to provide restitution for the legal, medical, and other bills caused by their poor judgment. A person who purposely murders another person is a murderer and should receive either a death penalty or life imprisonment based on severity. A serial rapist is a menace and should be locked up for life. The whole plea bargain/parole system is an injustice to the law-abiding citizen. It inflicts society with serial violent offenders and imprisons those who are not threat to others.

My wife took mine, so I had to buy another. Both have been accurate and reliable. NOTE - The bore has polygon rifling like a Glock, so it looks like a smoothbore!!!

It is similar to the difference between .38Special and .357Mag. Same bullet, longer case and more powder on the magnum. All .44Mag firearms can chamber and fire the .44Special. No .44Special firearm can chamber the .44Mag. The .44Special chambering is popular with those who want a large bore revolver in a relatively small package. Charter Arms, Taurus, and S&W have all made these type of revolvers.

ALL transfers that cross a state line are subject to Federal Law, and MUST be received by a licensee. You do not need to have a dealer ship it, but the person who receives the firearm when it crosses a state line MUST have a license. That said, C&R holders routinely trade via internet. Sometimes money is involved, sometimes not. This is where reputation matters. If they have a good reputation on the board, or can point to other references, like eBay, then I usually don't worry about it. This is one of those times where you trust your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable, don't do it.

Considering that 40% of white Americans are liberals, you don't have 40 years. Even if we manage to throw out most congresscritters next year, we're still just slowing down the loss of our freedom.

I LOVE where I work, but am not too crazy about WHAT I do. I work from my own office in the house, but the hours are terrible. I'm working from 7am to 6-7pm and am on-call all the rest of the time. I average 1-2 hours a day on weekends, vacation, and holidays.

I am amazed at how often police officers are hit while directing traffic. My prayers go out to this officer and his family. And I hope they fry the SOB that hit him.

If anything, 5.56mm will be phased out. It underperforms every competitor. Instead of selling a complete, working 5.56mm rifle, why not just buy a new upper receiver assembly in 6.8? Uppers are much less expensive than a new rifle, and it's easy to change calibers by pulling two pins and putting the new upper on. The 6.8 or 6.5Grendel are both excellent choices for the AR15 platform. The 6.8 excels in shorter barrels and at closer ranges, while the 6.5 really starts to shine out of at least 18" and is capable of excellent long-range accuracy. I would keep the ability to fire the cheaper 5.56mm ammo for a while, though.

Current Winchester SuperX loading is 175gr at 1290fps. Corbon loads 165gr JHP at 1400fps for 588ft/lbs. For comparison, Corbon .40S&W 165gr is 1150fps for 485 ft/lbs, and .45acp +P 165gr at 1225fps, 550ft/lbs. The 10mm will shoot flatter and still deliver excellent energy out to 100 yards. As far as cost goes, it's an easy cartridge to reload. The .40 bullets are easy to find and relatively inexpensive, and powder, primers, and cases are not any more expensive than comparable calibers. I've got an EAA Witness Compact with caliber conversions to .38Super, .45acp, and .22lr. I'm trying to find a .400 Corbon barrel to make it a 5-caliber pistol! You might consider .400 Corbon if you reload. It's ballistics are similar to .45+P but shoots flatter and doesn't require a '+P' rated frame. All you need is a barrel and maybe a recoil spring to use your favorite .45acp pistol. It's also expensive to buy that ammo, but it's really easy to make your own cases from .45acp.
