Herman Cain is being purposely ignored by the media. If his campaign gains traction, you will next hear him described as a 'Tea Party nut' and hear lots of false accusations against him. Typical liberal media behaviour.

The basic problem is NOT 'haves' and have nots'. There are very few people in the US who actually miss meals. ( I did not say 'none', just 'very few') Statistically, ALL of us have been getting wealthier over the past 50 years. Even poor Americans have color TVs, cell phones, and cars. Rather the problem is between those who GET state and federal benefit payments, and those who PAY them. If you get Medicare, Medicaid, SSN,or an EBT card, you are on the wrong side. Sure, you can tell yourself that you paid into the system for 30-40-50 years. But your money went to pay someone else's benefits, not yours. It was, very simply 'robbing Peter to pay Paul'. If you are getting benefits, you are robbing someone else for that money. Those who expect to get benefits in years to come will be robbing from their children. Until that cycle is broken, the budget cannot be fixed. As for armed violence, just see what happens when benefits are stopped or government checks bounce. That will make previous rioting look like a kindergarten quarrel.

Yeah, let's keep voting for those '2A supporting' Republicans
1gewehr replied to JAB's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Guys, it is NOT a perfect bill. But it IS a tiny move in the right direction. Remember, that is how you get laws done right, one tiny step at a time. This year we get the staff to carry, next year, students with permits. The year after that, all permit holders. Any bill is a good bill if it moves us in the right direction, no matter how small the step. -
They are nice little .22 rifles. Make sure you keep the rear sight securely mounted. If you think the magazines are expensive, the rear sights are almost worth as much as the whole rifle! I like mine a lot and often use it when teaching teenagers.

Man guilty of causing panic with unloaded guns in Orem mall
1gewehr replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I am appalled at how quickly people on this board are to jump all over this guy on the basis of a news article that was short on facts, but high in emotional content. As for carrying a rifle through a mall, most Bass Pro shops have gunsmithing and scope mounting services and are attached to a mall. I have seen people walking through malls with rifles to get to Bass Pro shops. Who is to say there isn't a sporting goods or gun store at that mall? There is nothing in the news story to suggest that he may have had a reason to be carrying a rifle. But when is the last time you saw a news story dealing with firearms that was accurate? I agree with the court ruling. From the little information available, it does appear that he was guilty of 'disorderly conduct'. That was not as a result of openly carrying firearms, but from the MANNER in which he was carrying them, which appeared threatening. A fellow walking around with an unloaded rifle slung over his shoulder is no cause for alarm. A guy carrying what appears to be a loaded AR15 in a 'shooter ready' position would have me looking for the nearest cover. It is not the fact of his carrying a firearm that is threatening, but the manner in which he was carrying it. -
Makes sense? He's in favor of comprehensive National Health Care (but ObamaCare is doing it wrong?), in favor of banning 'assault weapons' (but against gun control?), supports Federally-funded abortions, supported and voted for Obama in 2008, likes Nancy Pelosi, contributed mostly to Democrats over the past decade, and was against US military action overseas until he decided to explore running for President. The man is a shameless self-promoter with a record of failed business ventures that should cause investors to run. But his celebrity status is what enables him to continue to increase his personal wealth at the expense of those who invest their money in his projects. All flash and no substance, and definitely no conservative!

If the timing is right, I'll participate and bring my toys. I'd prefer a central TN location on private land.

Our dog kills them. When they first get active in April, the yard looks really bad due to the dog digging them out and killing them. After that, we might find one or two holes the rest of the summer. Why the dog hates moles so much is bizarre. He lets our cats curl up with him in the winter and loves kids, so it's not out of general ferocity. He's a Rhodesian Ridgeback, bred to hunt lions, not moles.

I never considered the .38Spl a high-pressure round. Compared to the 9mm, .38 Super, and .357Mag (all 35,000psi), a measly 24K psi is low-pressure. Even the mouse-bruising .25acp gets 25,000psi!

Routine field-stripping is very easy and no problem. The biggest problem for American shooters is they try to remove the slide stop. Do NOT REMOVE the slide stop!!!! It is not part of routine disassembly. There is a little spring that hods it in and activates the bolt hold-open. If you try to remove the slide stop, you will break that spring and cause yourself a lot of heartache. I bought a CZ82 very cheaply because someone had done that. The part was very cheap (I probably could have made one), but the installation was a royal PITA. Even with the proper instruction, it took about an hour to make the repair. (Hint: use a little tiny dab of axle grease to hold it in place while assembling)

You will get a pay increase due to lower taxes. Cost of living is less than CA or AZ as well. Compared to CA or AZ, you will need to get used to the lush vegetation. The ground actually retains water, and so the trees are taller and fuller, grass is everywhere, as well as lots of flowering plants. All that pollen blowing around in the Spring leads to allergy issues if you are prone to having them. You've got some adjusting to do. If you put on your turn signal, people will let you change lanes without fighting about it. On a two-lane road, don't get aggravated about the fellow up ahead trying to turn left in heavy traffic. Someone will let him do it. Learn to hold the door open for women. If you are not already in the habit, get used to saying 'please' and 'thank you'. Tennessee is pretty big on individual rights. Neighbors help neighbors, we do not depend on government. Tennessee may not be perfect, but most of us believe that it's about as close as anyone's been! Welcome, and I look forward to seeing you at the range!

Tokarev pistols are known for being very strong and reliable. The Yugo version uses a slightly longer magazine which holds 9rds instead of the 8 rds of the TT33. This is probably one of the better buys in the C&R market right now. Surplus ammo is very inexpensive and pretty powerful. Expect a nice fireball!

The problem is that it has become almost impossible to cut a complete program or agency. And THAT is what is needed. Unlike the private sector where you have to show a profit, or your job goes away, there is no measure of 'success' for a government program. Instead, all they can do is point to something that is getting worse and say "We need to spend more money to fix this". Or if there isn't already a government program (unlikely), they will develop a new agency or program to 'fix' the problem, especially if it's one that government regulation created in the first place. There is a reason that some people say that government is a disease masquerading as it's own cure. The only solution is to quit asking government to 'fix' things. Good luck with that.

Help fight brady campaign speaker in chattanooga
1gewehr replied to Jonnin's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
My response: "Your article says that Paul Helmke of Brady Campaign was 'invited to speak'. Is he being paid for the privilege? Are public funds being used to pay his travel and other expenses? If so, it hardly just an 'invitation'. Who was 'invited' to present the opposing viewpoint? Surely, if you can pay the president of Brady Campaign to come and speak, you can pay for Wayne LaPierre of NRA, Larry Pratt of GOA, or Alan Gottlieb of SAF to present an opposing viewpoint. I understand that after paying for Paul Helmke to come all the way from DC, funds may be scarce. But even getting John Harris of the Tennessee Firearms Association to come all the way from Nashville would be an improvement. You probably wouldn't even need to pay for his hotel room, it's only a two-hour drive." -
Rational arguments are entirely irrelevant. They want to ban ALL firearms. They will use any excuse to chip away a little piece here and a little piece there. They have been remarkably successful at this, and the NRA has yet to completely stop them. Gun Control nuts are perfectly willing to take 'two steps forward and one step back' until they reach their goal.

Donald Trump is a shameless self-promoter. His current Presidential bid is just more of teh same. Notice that he has yet to actually spend any of his own money. Rather, he has used his celebrity status to get a lot of free publicity. He knows that there are many people out there who are awed by celebrities, and are willing to overlook a poor record and invest a lot of time and money as long as they can say it was a 'Trump' project. Donald has always come out ahead. He is a huge risk-taker, but has always been careful to use other people's money in his projects. Rarely does he actually use a significant amount of his own wealth for one of his projects. To me, that is the major reason why I cannot support his bid for the Presidency. When you add in his previous support for a variety of liberal causes, Nancy Pelosi, Obama, government health care, and gun control, that just seals the deal. Donald Trump? Just say 'NO!'

I have yet to see any Democrats in favor of voter ID. It seems that they are just using the 'poll tax' argument as their justification for opposing it. And it is not a 'free' ID card, it is a tax-payer funded ID card. I also find it interesting that requiring a $10 photo ID is considered a 'tax', but requiring a $10 background check fee, permanent documentation (form 4473), and a sworn statement (also form 4473) to purchase a firearm is not considered an 'infringement'. It seems that the rules change depending on who is reading them. Newspapers are exempt from sales tax as that is considered an infringement on the 1st Amendment. But there are no lack of taxes on firearms and ammunition (11% excise, 9.25% sales, $10 TICS check, etc).

No matter how you look at it, the .22lr is a low-pressure round. For any given pressure, a heavier bullet means lower velocities, and lighter bullets can be driven to higher velocities at that same pressure. That's why the 'hyper-velocity' rounds have 32gr bullets (CCI Stinger). The Aguila SSS 60gr is designed to remain subsonic is all .22 rifles. No manufacturer is going to exceed normal pressures as the risk of causing damage to a firearm or person has severe costs. And the reality is that the thin brass of the .22 rim where the priming compound is located cannot handle pressures much higher. I've heard that .22mag pressures are as high as any rimfire case can handle.

Voting CAN be legally restricted by many factors. It cannot be restricted by: 1) on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude - Amendment XV 2) on account of sex - Amendment XIX 3) by reason of failure to pay poll tax or other tax - Amendment XXIV 4) who are eighteen years of age or older, ... on account of age - XXVI Theoretically, you COULD restrict voting to only veterans, or High School graduates, or require a test on civic responsibility in order to vote.

I used to carry my well-worn S&W M19 when hiking. The only time I actually used it was many years ago when it was still legal to shoot Copperheads (snakes). These days, I would agree that two-legged predators are the biggest threat. You normal EDC weapon should be fine.

I think that there are AK74 clips that hold 15rds. I'll have to look in my box and see. M16, M1 Carbine, and Mauser Broomhandle clips all hold 10rds. Those are the biggest I know about besides the SKS/AK clips you mentioned. If I didn't believe in Free Speech, I'd have to agree that Assault Video Clips like this one are harmful and could cause unbalanced liberals to target little girls in pigtails.

Let's face it, since this is based on the states that actually CATCH criminals, the numbers will be automatically wrong. In the most corrupt states, the crooks don't ever get arrested.

We like the Herons and have never had a problem with them. The geese are a different story. I make a point of trying to spot their nests this time of year, and hit the egg from a safe distance with a BB. If the egg doesn't hatch, they usually move elsewhere. Just three years ago we used to have about 30 geese living on our cove. We're down to about 10. These are not migratory geese, but 'welfare geese' that hang around all winter, stealing dog food, crapping everywhere, and generally being a PITA.
