  1. Again +1 on the 6.5 Grendel. Even out of the short 16" barrels it has excellent energy past 200 yards. I don't like to limit my options to only short-range shots.
  2. Actually this technology has been around a LOT longer than that. Look up 'spigot mortar'. For small arms, it was first proposed early in the smokeless powder era as a way to reduce bore erosion from the very hot and high velocity powder. It was dropped when barrel steels were improved instead. Another use of the same technology has been in captive bolt guns, also known as cattle killers.
  3. Stories about Obama's homosexual relationships have been around for years. Several men have had very credible accounts of meeting Obama for sex. Some have also been killed. http://fellowshipofminds.wordpress.com/2010/07/25/mom-of-murdered-obama-gay-lover-speaks-up/
  4. It's almost the same as the old Remington Model 12 pump .22. It's a well-made all steel and wood .22 that should outlast you and your kids if properly take care of. The Savage is not as desirable as the Remington. Even excellent specimens rarely bring more than $150. If you have a nice one, keep it. Poppert's has some parts if you need them. I doubt you will find a better value for a high-quality .22.

I was a dealer for 12 years, and have been collecting for another 20 years. I've sold or traded a lot away, and sold a bunch when I was divorced 20 years ago.
  6. My wife's Savage 99 also likes the Remington 100gr load. I got lucky and found seven boxes at a flea market last year. Before that, my experience was that it liked 87gr bullets a lot more than heavier ones. The 100gr load I got best results with was 34.4gr of IMR 4064 topped with a Sierra 100gr GameKing BTSP at over 2700fps. I would suggest only boat-tail 100gr bullets. I never got a flat-base bullet over 90gr to group worthwhile.
  7. Before buying any ammo for this pistol, measure the chamber length. There is .32 Long and also .32 Short. The 'Short' came out in 1878, is the older of the two, and your revolver may only be rated for that cartridge. The .32 Long didn't show up until 1896. Any factory .32 Short ammo is safe to fire in your revolver. Generally, '.32 S&W' refers to the shorter cartridge, and '.32 Long' means .32 S&W Long. For inexpensive plinking, a .32 round ball on top of 2.0 grains of Unique worked well for me. Alternately, a .25acp case full of FFFg black powder also works with a .32 round ball pressed in with your thumb. These old revolvers can be surprisingly accurate. I've perforated many soda cans with old IJ and H&R top-break revolvers.

    "Porting" a 357

A couple of points about porting: 1) You will lose velocity. In a short-barreled weapon, this can be a very significant amount. 2) In low-light conditions, you may get a significant amount of flash obscuring your target. 3) With lead bullets, you can get lead build-up in the ports. 4) There will be a significant amount of gas, lead, and/or jacket particles exiting the ports. Firing a ported .357 with a 4" or shorter barrel from the hip is not recommended. 5) The higher the gas pressure, the more effective porting will be. Ports on low-pressure cartridges are rarely effective (eg; .22, .32, .38Spl, .44Spl) Hope this helps.
  9. Oh, look! With just a few keystrokes I found some in stock for sale! http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=pmr-30+for+sale&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1142&bih=853&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=14175939907203715081&sa=X&ei=YYemT8XtBcja2wXSvrGmAg&ved=0CIYBEPMCMAA
  10. I used to live in Durham County, NC in the late '80's. Even then it was known as having the worst cops in the state. The PD recruited straight from the gangs, and folks with light skin were seen as fair game for anyone. We soon learned not to bother calling the cops, but to just make sure everyone knew we were armed and willing to shoot. On the plus side, I bought a very nice Triumph Spitfire for $300 from someone who said it had engine problems. A bit of oil in the carb dashpots and it ran perfectly! You've gotta love SU carbs! I used to leave that car parked up on blocks with the wheels off so nobody would steal it, and so the fellow who sold it to us would think it still had problems and not take the car back. It was THAT kind of a place.
  11. Capitol View Pawn near downtown used to do them for $10. I haven't used them in a couple of years, though.
  12. Large, bulky pistol with LOUD muzzle blast. Marginally better ballistics than a .22Mag from the same barrel length. I'd like to see a comparison between the FiveseveN and the Keltec PMR-30. The FN holds 20rds, and the Keltec holds 30. Weight and size are very similar.
  13. What does voting for someone have to do with trusting them? If you trust ANYONE you vote for, then you might want to re-examine your trust. Sure, you vote for the better of the choices given. But if you are not then also watching very closely, then you not doing your civic duty. Liberals would have you believe that voting is the end-all and be-all of citizenship. Wrong. It should be the culmination of a process of watching the candidates, voicing your opinions to them, asking the tough questions, and supporting those who get it right. And when the elction is over, you start the process all over again. Freedom certainly is not free, but the cost is a LOT less when people fight for it during local and state election cycles.
  14. Anyone who wants to disarm you at any time and place is not doing it for YOUR safety. This is so logical and self-evident that most liberals cannot understand it.
  15. Typical good job of reporting by the Tennessean. And they wonder why they continue to lose money with such gross ignorance.
  16. Airflow should go only from the shooting stations to the backstop, then out. That will keep lead dust from being inhaled.
  17. None of the carbines was all original. The Postal Meter was a true mixmaster with an aftermarket barrel. The Para GM stock looked like it may have been an aged aftermarket stock. It just didn't ring true to me. As said above, the prices realized were pretty absurd. I walked away without anything except a bit more sun tan.
  18. Basically: Piston guns do not direct carbon back into the receiver, bolt, and carrier. Heat buildup is lessened as hot gasses do not get forced into moving parts. DI guns are more accurate due to fewer moving parts, lower recoiling mass, and no movement along the barrel. For your purposes, a piston setup is more hype than reality. You will likely never burn through 500rds in five minutes, melt handguards, or need to shoot a couple of thousand rounds without being able to clean your rifle.
  19. For hanguns, I generally think that 5 is the minimum. For the guns I shoot most often, I have a lot more than that. I think that I have several dozen CZ-75 mags. Keep in mind that it is entirely possible that mags for your favorite pistol may be unavailable or vastly more expensive in the future. I have some collector handguns that I also shoot. I prefer to use non-matching or aftermarket mags in order to not risk damage to the original serial number matching mags. An original wooden-bottom, serial numbered pre-WWI Luger mag that matches your pistol is not something to take chances with. For new guns, a bit of shopping can sometimes lead to a pretty good savings in mag costs. Google found several places with Walther PPS mags for under $50 each. One source had 9mm 8rd mags for $38!

    Amazon.com

The sales tax is the only fair tax there is. You get to control exactly how much tax you pay. Don't want to pay any more tax? Don't buy the item or find a source other than retail. I don't send my elected representatives to the Legislature to spend my money. I send them there to figure out ways to spend less of my money and make the residents of Tennessee more free. And Linda Elam and Mae Beavers are aware of that. For the most part, they do a decent job of it. If your reps are not doing that, you need to make yourself known to them. If they still don't listen, make your neighbors known the them as well. And if they still won't listen, get new representatives.
  21. Wow, she really needs a little coaching! Aggressive, forward-leaning stance. Bend the knees more to lower the center of gravity. And lean into the gun more under recoil, not away from it! Nice toys.
  22. Yep. That's the saddest part of it. An act of desperation by a sad old man that never gained him anything, but lost him all of his friends.
  23. Two sides with 45 degree inclines means it's easy to shoot longer or shorter ranges!! Mountains make excellent backstops, too!
  24. Remember that was Hollywood, where they don't have to pay attention to reality. What they described in the movie would not have worked like they wanted it to. In the early 1900's, paper-patching was the highest technology for accuracy. It was only with the introduction of long, spitzer-point jacketed bullets that paper-patching lost favor. The jacketed spitzer is more efficient at longer ranges as it loses energy more slowly than a round-nosed bullet. Here is an interesting forum on high-velocity patched bullets: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/forumdisplay.php?f=62
  25. He may have 'made millions', but if he's looking for a state job in order to get the health benefits, he certainly did't keep millions! And that brings up another point. I have to find it reprehensible that he is looking to stiff the taxpayers for his poor decisions. State meployees are suposed to give the taxpayers value for their money. And we are supposed to believe that Bob Pope will be able to give us enough value for the work he does on a made-up position to offset the salary plus benefits he will receive? I'm not buying that. And we should be telling our reps that they should not be buying it either!
