We love our 99s! My wife has one in .250 Savage, and mine is in .300 Savage. Reloading components are cheap (except cases), since .25 and .308 bullets are common. With the .250, we get 2900fps with 100gr bullets, and the .300 gets 2700fps with 150gr bullets. The smooth profile is very welcome when trudging through heavy brush as there is nothing to snag. Balance is prefect, and handling is very quick. Both of ours were made in the 1920's and show that super-high level of craftsmanship typical of high-end firearms of that period. I always felt that the .250 Savage would have been an excellent military cartridge. Much better all-around ballistics than the 5.56mm, while retaining relatively light weight and recoil. It makes an excellent deer cartridge out to medium ranges (400-500 yards) with good energy retention and a flat trajectory. The .300 Savage is almost as powerful as the .308. I can handload it to a tiny bit less than .308 velocities. But in a 90 year-old rifle, I don't think it's a smart idea. So, I keep my loads in that cartridge down to right at 2700fps.

I'm sorry that you have bad neighbors. It sucks. BTDT. I had a neighbor who worked at night and drove his Harley with loud pipes to and from work. Of course, he had to let it idle and rev it for five minutes when starting or stopping. Every day at 11pm and 6am. He also drove his ATV across everyone's back yards and tore up the grass. There just isn't much you can do about inconsiderate a$$holes. As long as your neighbor is shooting safely (away from your property), you're stuck with it. Unless he's got more money than most folks, he'll run out of ammo pretty soon! He doesn't sound like someone who would reload. That's the only way I can afford to shoot my MGs as much as I do.

"Armed with machetes and sticks"? The one photo they had of armed workers showed assegais (Zulu stabbing spears) and a few machetes. If someone comes running at me with an assegai or machete, I'll shoot too!!

There are a lot of very good .22 suppressors out there. YHM and GemTech are among the best. I just had my old (bought new in 2000) Outback updated by GemTech. They replaced the entire baffle stack and upgraded it to the latest specs for a very reasonable price. I would suggest a company that is going to be around for a while as suppressor technology is still moving pretty fast. What is state of the art today will be almost antiquated in another ten years. Upgrading a suppressor is very easy with no paperwork from ATF. Just send it off and they ship it right back to you directly.

If you don't feel comfortable about the person trying to buy the gun, just refuse the sale. DO ask the two crucial questions: 1) Are you a legal resident of Tennessee? 2) Are there any laws prohibiting you from buying this firearm? I usually ask to look at the handgun permit. If they say they don't have one, I look at them funny and ask "Why not?" Then I say a DL is OK. Just me, but I think that if you have a handgun, you should get your carry permit.

When you park you car in a shopping mall parking lot, does that give the mall the right to search your car on a whim? If not, then why does that give them the right to dictate what legal objects you can have inside it? Can they dictate a 'no bibles' rule? How about a rule saying 'no political books or fliers'? But, it's somehow OK for them to dictate that you can't keep your legal firearm in that same vehicle? How does THAT make any sense? Harwell blew it. She supported a bunch of her fellow RINOs, and now wants to pretend to be conservative. Sorry, but there is too much evidence of her duplicity to allow that. Bye, bye, Beth!

That will be a tough restoration. Norwegian parts aren't the same as US parts. And Norwegian parts are pretty scarce. As mentioned above, you might ask for help on the Krag section on Gunboards. There are some folks there who are seriously knowledgeable on those rifles! The Krag action is a wonderfully smooth action. It's as fast as a nice, pre-WWI, Lee-Enfield!

Every able-bodied person between 18 and 45 years of age is a member of the militia. (10 U.S.C. § 311) That is why a military draft is not considered slavery, but instead is a civic duty. Others may volunteer to be called up. As for other militias, the state also has the right to call up it's citizens for service, as does the county sheriff. Prior to the mid-1800's most places called up the militia to deal with robbers, lost children, manhunts, natural disasters, and sometimes even road construction. Later, politicians discovered that people would rather pay taxes than do the actual work. Politicians love having money to spend!

A larger group sometimes makes it LESS likely that a person will speak up. Peer pressure can be intimidating.

IF someone had actually paid to have that billboard put up like that, it would be protected freedom of speech. Since whoever did it did NOT pay for the billboard, it is just an act of vandalism, subject to criminal charges.

I've seen plenty of folks who are perfectly capable of hitting a silhouette at 200 yards with a .357 or .44. There's a whole lot of 'flat' in that part of the country, and long-range shooting with handguns isn't uncommon. Metallic Silhouette shooting is pretty popular out there, too. Still, a good first shot.

When i was an FFL, I ALWAYS opened every box as soon as possible to ascertain any shipping damage and that everythin gthat was supposed to be in the box was present. Also, you need to open the box to verify the serial number, even if it is on the packing slip or box. I also used to pack everything back up in the original box for the customer unless several firearms came in one box. Most dealers I've dealt with work in a similar manner.

The girl deserves a raise. Very polite, remained cool even under stress. She is a great representative for CFA and their values. I'd hire her in a second! The guy is a sleaze. Any one who would do that to another person deserves to be fired. And his behaviour clearly comes under firing for cause in most companies I have worked with. So, he probably won't get unemployment. Most brands that have been around for more than a couple of years are reputable and have interchangeable parts. Unless you are looking for something specific, I'd just buy whatever suits your fancy. The only really critical parts on an AR are the bolt, barrel and trigger parts. S&W makes a good rifle. So does Armalite, DPMS, Colt, Doublestar, and several others. I'm the cautious type, so I generally wait for a couple of years after something new comes out so that other folks can find all the problems ;-). With the safety on, the pistol cannot fire. It is very safe to carry like that. You are not going to 'accidentally' take the safety off as it has a very positive movement. I carried one as a pocket pistol for many years. Old Savage ads said "10 Shots Quick!". And they were right. Aside from the Remington 51, it is the only .32 that I can point shoot instinctively. Parts aren't cheap, but they are available from several sources. Most complaints have to do with using cheap low-powered ammo. Modern self-defense loads work great in mine. Original mags are expensive, and come in three flavors. Early and later guns had different magazine catches. You have magazines made for each type, and finally, magazines made for both. Operating the magazine catch takes a bit of practice to get used to it. Once you do, it's very quick to use. The earlier 1907/1910 pistols are a little less bulky and lighter than the model 1917.

WD-40 sprayed directly inside a primer does not 'kill' it. Neither does a drop of motor oil. I would not expect an oil bath to do any good. If you are just target shooting or plinking, keep the firearm pointed at the target for about 15 seconds. Clear the weapon gently as it is possible that a spark which did not ignite the powder can set it off when it's jostled. Place the defective round behind a barrier or inside a large metal container. When you are finished shooting, destroy the cartridge. I usually just break it down for usable components. In a tactical situation, clear and drive on!

I would be VERY iterested in seeing their statistics. This quote makes me very skeptical about the validity of the study; "The rankings on this national study are based on economic, health, education, and demographic factors." Most such studies are based on crimes, not silly factors.

Two points that the TV media have ignored: 1) There are several movie theaters nearby. Why did he choose the one he did? We know that he meticulously planned this attack. Is it coincidence that that theater is posted AGAINST concealed carry? 2) There was nother attempted mass murder in Aurora, CO on April 30th this year. Shooter had multple guns, body armor, lots of ammo. Killed two and then was drilled in the head by an off-duty cop with a concealed handgun. End of that 'rampage'! I am terrified at the thought of standing with my little pistol against some nut armed with a rifle and armored like this fellow. But, I hope that I would have the courage to at least try. It's certainly better than cowering in fear and hoping he moves on without shooting me or my loved ones.

There are two definitions of 'assault rifle'. The first one is the one commonly used by reasonably knowledgable people who actually use firearms. "An assault rifle is a selective-fire rifle or carbine typically firing ammunition with muzzle energies and sizes intermediate between those of handgun and more traditional high-powered rifle ammunition." The second definition is the one used by gun-control advocates and media. "Anything that looks scary to an ignorant hoplophobe." Your DPMS .308 does not fit the first definition, but most certainly meets the second one.

It is not legal to have an FFL unless you are running a business. I would advise against trying to go this route unless you really do intend to run a business. ATF has successfuly jailed folks for this.

Probably correct. But 'soon' is a pretty vague term. And the dollar has a LOT of pressure keeping it up. Mostly because as bad as it is, it's still better than almost any other currency. And you should have a diversified portfolio. I favor silver, steel, lead, brass, food, and other commodities.
