  1. No real celebrities. Todd Palin is a real trooper! Other than that, it was a couple of WWE wrestlers, some small-time actors, and a Biggest Loser trainer.
  2. If you don't feel comfortable about the person trying to buy the gun, just refuse the sale. DO ask the two crucial questions: 1) Are you a legal resident of Tennessee? 2) Are there any laws prohibiting you from buying this firearm? I usually ask to look at the handgun permit. If they say they don't have one, I look at them funny and ask "Why not?" Then I say a DL is OK. Just me, but I think that if you have a handgun, you should get your carry permit.
  3. When Harwell was elected Speaker, I knew that for Republicans it would be 'business as usual'. She is not a conservative. She is in it for the power and wants to be Governor after Haslam. As Speaker, she has been the primary person who decides what does, or does not , go to the floor for a vote. She has worked diligently behind the scenes to suppress efforts to pass a state constitutional amendment against an income tax. As for the 'property rights' argument against the Safe Commute Act, it's a red herring. When you park you car in a shopping mall parking lot, does that give the mall the right to search your car on a whim? If not, then why does that give them the right to dictate what legal objects you can have inside it? Can they dictate a 'no bibles' rule? How about a rule saying 'no political books or fliers'? But, it's somehow OK for them to dictate that you can't keep your legal firearm in that same vehicle? How does THAT make any sense? Harwell blew it. She supported a bunch of her fellow RINOs, and now wants to pretend to be conservative. Sorry, but there is too much evidence of her duplicity to allow that. Bye, bye, Beth!
  4. That will be a tough restoration. Norwegian parts aren't the same as US parts. And Norwegian parts are pretty scarce. As mentioned above, you might ask for help on the Krag section on Gunboards. There are some folks there who are seriously knowledgeable on those rifles! The Krag action is a wonderfully smooth action. It's as fast as a nice, pre-WWI, Lee-Enfield!
  5. Every able-bodied person between 18 and 45 years of age is a member of the militia. (10 U.S.C. § 311) That is why a military draft is not considered slavery, but instead is a civic duty. Others may volunteer to be called up. As for other militias, the state also has the right to call up it's citizens for service, as does the county sheriff. Prior to the mid-1800's most places called up the militia to deal with robbers, lost children, manhunts, natural disasters, and sometimes even road construction. Later, politicians discovered that people would rather pay taxes than do the actual work. Politicians love having money to spend!
  6. A larger group sometimes makes it LESS likely that a person will speak up. Peer pressure can be intimidating.
  7. IF someone had actually paid to have that billboard put up like that, it would be protected freedom of speech. Since whoever did it did NOT pay for the billboard, it is just an act of vandalism, subject to criminal charges.
  8. I've seen plenty of folks who are perfectly capable of hitting a silhouette at 200 yards with a .357 or .44. There's a whole lot of 'flat' in that part of the country, and long-range shooting with handguns isn't uncommon. Metallic Silhouette shooting is pretty popular out there, too. Still, a good first shot.
  9. Very interesting concept. Interesting timing, too.

    FFL situations.

When i was an FFL, I ALWAYS opened every box as soon as possible to ascertain any shipping damage and that everythin gthat was supposed to be in the box was present. Also, you need to open the box to verify the serial number, even if it is on the packing slip or box. I also used to pack everything back up in the original box for the customer unless several firearms came in one box. Most dealers I've dealt with work in a similar manner.
  11. The girl deserves a raise. Very polite, remained cool even under stress. She is a great representative for CFA and their values. I'd hire her in a second! The guy is a sleaze. Any one who would do that to another person deserves to be fired. And his behaviour clearly comes under firing for cause in most companies I have worked with. So, he probably won't get unemployment. Actions have consequences, even for liberals!
  12. Most brands that have been around for more than a couple of years are reputable and have interchangeable parts. Unless you are looking for something specific, I'd just buy whatever suits your fancy. The only really critical parts on an AR are the bolt, barrel and trigger parts. S&W makes a good rifle. So does Armalite, DPMS, Colt, Doublestar, and several others. I'm the cautious type, so I generally wait for a couple of years after something new comes out so that other folks can find all the problems ;-). AR15.com is the place to answer all of your AR-15 questions.
  13. With the safety on, the pistol cannot fire. It is very safe to carry like that. You are not going to 'accidentally' take the safety off as it has a very positive movement. I carried one as a pocket pistol for many years. Old Savage ads said "10 Shots Quick!". And they were right. Aside from the Remington 51, it is the only .32 that I can point shoot instinctively. Parts aren't cheap, but they are available from several sources. Most complaints have to do with using cheap low-powered ammo. Modern self-defense loads work great in mine. Original mags are expensive, and come in three flavors. Early and later guns had different magazine catches. You have magazines made for each type, and finally, magazines made for both. Operating the magazine catch takes a bit of practice to get used to it. Once you do, it's very quick to use. The earlier 1907/1910 pistols are a little less bulky and lighter than the model 1917.
  14. WD-40 sprayed directly inside a primer does not 'kill' it. Neither does a drop of motor oil. I would not expect an oil bath to do any good. If you are just target shooting or plinking, keep the firearm pointed at the target for about 15 seconds. Clear the weapon gently as it is possible that a spark which did not ignite the powder can set it off when it's jostled. Place the defective round behind a barrier or inside a large metal container. When you are finished shooting, destroy the cartridge. I usually just break it down for usable components. In a tactical situation, clear and drive on!
  15. I would be VERY iterested in seeing their statistics. This quote makes me very skeptical about the validity of the study; "The rankings on this national study are based on economic, health, education, and demographic factors." Most such studies are based on crimes, not silly factors.
  16. Two points that the TV media have ignored: 1) There are several movie theaters nearby. Why did he choose the one he did? We know that he meticulously planned this attack. Is it coincidence that that theater is posted AGAINST concealed carry? 2) There was nother attempted mass murder in Aurora, CO on April 30th this year. Shooter had multple guns, body armor, lots of ammo. Killed two and then was drilled in the head by an off-duty cop with a concealed handgun. End of that 'rampage'! I am terrified at the thought of standing with my little pistol against some nut armed with a rifle and armored like this fellow. But, I hope that I would have the courage to at least try. It's certainly better than cowering in fear and hoping he moves on without shooting me or my loved ones.
  17. There are two definitions of 'assault rifle'. The first one is the one commonly used by reasonably knowledgable people who actually use firearms. "An assault rifle is a selective-fire rifle or carbine typically firing ammunition with muzzle energies and sizes intermediate between those of handgun and more traditional high-powered rifle ammunition." The second definition is the one used by gun-control advocates and media. "Anything that looks scary to an ignorant hoplophobe." Your DPMS .308 does not fit the first definition, but most certainly meets the second one.
  18. Wrong door? Didn't announce themselves as 'Police'? Survivors should sue the county for everything including the pants of the officers. Sadly, the actual person responsible for this is probably the dispatcher, informant or some other flunky who gave the wrong address. The thing that really bothers me is that as a non-criminal, you are pretty much liable to be screwed if someone knocks on the door at night, or if it is knocked in. If you don't have a gun, and it's criminals, you stand a good chance of dying. If it's cops and you have a gun, you will probably die. Even if they say they are cops, it could still be criminals. There is no good answer here.
  19. Sure looks like a KelTec P3AT or the Ruger or Taurus clone. With only a max of 6+1, he was about dry when they ran out the door. I wonder if he had a spare mag? Still, if it had been a 9mm or .45, I wonder if the good people of Florida could have been saved many thousands of dollars in jail and court expenses these two idiots will now cost? The old fellow did a good job of picking his shots. I didn't see any where he didn't have a clear shot without any other folks downrange.
  20. It is not legal to have an FFL unless you are running a business. I would advise against trying to go this route unless you really do intend to run a business. ATF has successfuly jailed folks for this.
  21. Probably correct. But 'soon' is a pretty vague term. And the dollar has a LOT of pressure keeping it up. Mostly because as bad as it is, it's still better than almost any other currency. And you should have a diversified portfolio. I favor silver, steel, lead, brass, food, and other commodities.
  22. If you are on a budget as you seem to be, you might look into the 6.5 Grendel on an AR-15 platform. Aside from the bolt, barrel, and magazine, it uses every other part in common with a normal AR-15. I have an AR-15 built up in this caliber and the accuracy and long-range energy are excellent. I recommend a 20" barrel to get the best performance from this cartridge. Out past 300 yards, the 6.5G has as much energy as the 7.62x51. The 6.5G has been used to hunt everything from bunnies to elk. There is nothing in Tennessee that is too large to hunt with it. JT has some excellent quality kits and rifles at good prices. That's where I got mine and it's been reliable and accurate. http://jtdistributing.net/store/kits_6_5_grendel.html Ammo is pretty reasonable. You can get excellent quality target ammo from Hornady ($22/box), and very good reloadable ammo from Wolf Gold ($13/box). Wolf will also be bringing in steel-case plinking ammo next month for about $8/box. Another advantage is that the AR-15 is the 'Swiss Army Knife' of firearms. You can get conversions to shoot a host of cartridges from cheap target practice with .22lr to the shoulder-bruising energy of the .50 Beowulf. Here's a link to get you started on calibers other than 5.56/.223 for the AR-15. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_121/492215_AR15_Variants__Caliber_specific_FAQs.html A confusing thing about calibers is that many have more than one name, or names that are easily confused with other cartridges. Just as an example, the .308 cartridge you are interested in shooting is known as .308 Winchester, 7.62x51mm, 7.62NATO, 7.62 T65, 7.62 M80 (USGI), 7.62 F4 (Aussie), 7.62 L1A1 (Brit), etc. There are minor differences between the commercial .308 and military-spec 7.62 cartridges. For your purposes, they are irrelevant. Any rifle you are interested in can handle the higher pressures allowed with .308 ammo.
  23. Nope, just 'destinations'. Generally, that would be the range where you will be shooting, not where you lay your head at night. If you are attending a convention or exhibition, you would use the address of the exhibition hall.
  24. I've been using 9.0gr of AA#9 behind a 100gr plated flat point in a .32mag case. I get 1100fps and no pressure problems. The original service load for the Nagant is a 100gr jacketed bullet at 1100fps. The case distorts in the middle, but I still get about 5-6 reloads per case without any splitting. I have used factory .32 H&R mag ammo for years and never seen a problem. I have also never heard of a Nagant revolver that had a problem from factory .32 mag ammo. These revolvers are pretty strong, and the pressures are still pretty low at only 21,000cup (about the same as .380 auto). If you reload, using jacketed or plated bullets will reduce the amount of lead build-up you get in the barrel recess at the chamber end. The PRVi and HotShot ammo is a very light target load. The good thing about that ammo is that the brass is boxer-primed and easily reloaded. Those cases with a 100gr bullet loaded to about 1100fps makes a nice shooter equal in power to the .38 Spl.
  25. ATF Form 5320.20 can be done for a full year. I do mine each August for each location I think that I might be visiting out of state. You can do multiple guns on each 5320.20. Faxing usually gets a 1-week turnaround. Basically, you would fill out the 5320 with the destination being your favorite range, show the period as being July 15, 2012 to July 14, 2013 (or whatever dates you pick). You will need a seperate 5320.20 for every location you intend to visit. Only the final destination counts. If you were planning a long vacation with lots of stops, I would fill out a 5320.20 for every range you will be visiting.
