  1. Increasing production for ammo is not something easily done if you are already running close to capacity.  Machinery is usually something that has a six-month to one year lead time.  If a lot of companies are trying to buy the same machinery, it could be longer.  High-speed case-drawing machinery is not found at Walmart.   Increasing capacity is a risk.  Spending a lot of capital is the kind of thing that keeps CEOs awake at night.  What if this is just a short-term demand?  If they spend a lot of money, only to have demand drop when production is ready to increase, then it's a lot of wasted money.  If this demand stays high, then any manufacturers who started increasing supply early will have a big advantage over those who choose not to increase production.   The problem is in trying to predict demand.  Right now, not many folks have working crystal balls.
  2.   Just to clarify this.  In their test, they fired many thousands of rounds of steel-case and brass-case 5.56mm ammo.  The findings were that the rifling wears out faster due to the copper-plated mild steel bullet jacket.  The steel cartridge case had no effect on wear.   I've fired a bunch of Wolf .45.  The only drawbacks are that it's a bit weak and it's dirty.  For plinking ammo, it's fine.
  3. I took no offense.  I just wanted to be VERY clear that I wasn't suggesting that anyone spend any money for that book! :yuck:
  4. The sad thing is that there are a lot of folks that would not recognize the sarcasm.   I propose that we bring back intelligence tests and poll taxes before you can vote!
  5. That's what I suggested.  EVERY library has several copies.  I would NEVER suggest that someone actually spend money for that kind of socialist anti-American cr@p.
  6. Keep in mind that Obama's OFA is targeting voters in areas where they think that they can get a congresscritter to change their vote.  They had over 100 anti-gun rallies on Friday while pro-gun folks were working.  And every one of them got news attention, no matter how small.  Did anyone see any TV coverage of the 99 pro-gun rallies that were held Saturday?   We need to keep up the pressure because the opposition is pushing this with every lie they can make up.   Our biggest advantage is that a LOT more folks are fervently pro-gun than are anti-gun.
  7. I saw the movie 2016.  That inspired me to go read Dreams of my Father from the library.  If Obama's own book doesn't scare you, nothing will.  He really lays it all down; anti-colonialism, anti-capitalism, socialist agenda, and anti-Americanism on every page.   A very effective campaign for Romney could have consisted simply of quotes from Obama's own book.
  8. Canada gave up on their Registry with only about 30% compliance and over 3000% over-budget.  And they started with a registration on handguns and some other types of firearms already.  We have a LOT more folks, a LOT more guns, and a LOT less efficient government. California had less than 10% compliance with their 'assault-weapon' registration.   Making firearms is not rocket science.  Anyone with basic machine tools can make anything that they want.  There are a lot of plans on the internet.   As usual, this will not accomplish anything towards reducing violence or mass shootings by deranged people.   Finally, show me WHERE the Constitution gives Congress the power to pass this legislation?  Yes, I know if hasn't stopped them in the past.  But why should they be allowed to violate their oath of office now?   And yes, everyone needs to call, write AND email Corker, Alexander, and your congresscritter to express your displeasure.  But polite, but firm.
  9. Probably the best 10mm semi-auto out there.  Very rugged, decent trigger, and reliable.  It was designed to take the original 10mm loads which are about 10-20% more powerful than today's factory loads. I have heard that some pistols from the '90's had light recoil springs which caused cracked slides with heavy loads.  I usually replace all springs in a used pistol anyway.  So, if it was mine, I would just order a Wolff Spring kit with a 20lb recoil spring and never give it another thought.
  10. Mosin rifle is perfect as is.  The Great Socialist Revolution has provided perfect rifle for Workers to use against Greedy Capitalist running-dog Oppressors!  All Workers are Equal with this rifle.  Bolt operation gives Workers Strong Right Arm!  Only weak American lackey arms need to use hammer or wood stick to beat bolt open when rifle gets warm!   Replace wood stock grown from trees of the Holy Motherland with Capitalist plastic produced from greedy aristocratic oil-scum ?!  Take this unpatriotic mewling scum out and shoot him with Excellent Cheka Commisar Nagant pistol.
  11. Nagant pistols are surprisingly accurate.  I use .32 H&R mags in mine, especially for reloading.  You lose a bit of performance since you don't get the chamber seal that the 7.62 Nagant brass provides.  But for the price difference, I'll live with it.  A 100gr JHP over 7.7gr of 2400 gives 1100fps.  If you use any case except the Nagant case, stick with jacketed bullets to avoid leading up the recess in the barrel where the Nagant case mouth fits.   Most of the Nagant pistols have a LOT of gummed-up oil in the mechanism.  Just cleaning it out usually helps a lot.  There is also a clever trick of using a small hex nut as a spacer that lowers the trigger pull. http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=56731
  12. I use 2400 for my .357 loads.  My favorite load is 15.0 grains behind a Remington 158gr SJHP.  It's a bit stiff, but I have yet to see any high-pressure signs from it in any revolver.  I have also used the same load for the Berry's plated 158gr for an inexpensive practice round.   Bear are a thicker, heavier animal than deer, and penetration is important, especially if you need to defend yourself against an enraged Mama bear.
  13. Excellent!  I keep looking for the part of the Constitution where it grants Congress ANY power to pass gun control.
  14. The real Beta Mags work very well.  Keep them clean and follow the instructions.  I have not tried the Korean knock-offs yet.  But the copies do not look as well-made.   As for 'need'.  What does 'need' have to do with it?  When I see these folks with 8 pounds of tacti-crap on their AR's, I don't see how a Beta Mag makes much difference.  If that's what folks want, who cares?  No skin off my nose.   For me, I got the Beta because it looked like fun when ammo was cheap.  And it was!  Whacking a 400 yard gong from a heavy-barrel AR on the bipod with one shot per second for almost two minutes was WAY COOL!!!  It sure made me wish that I had bought a M-16 back when I could have afforded one!
  15. It's your subconscious telling you to get rid of that pistol with the long-heavy trigger pull.  A decent 1911, Glock, XD, or similar will stop that dream and let you get back to the one where the cute blonde admires your .45 and asks you to take her home so that you can show her how to field-strip and clean it in private. :pleased:   Ummm, don't tell my wife that I still have that dream from time to time. :ugh:
  16. As far as I know the only two President's to have actually engaged in hand-to-hand personal combat are Jackson and Harrison.  Both were very physically strong and quick, a well as known for being aggressive.  Jackson nearly killed an attempted assassin with his cane.  Lincoln was known as very strong and wiry as well as a formidable grappling wrestler. For a knife fight, I'd pick those three for the last ones standing.   But, in a melee of the sort proposed, any group that banded together would have a huge advantage.  Washington, Jefferson, Adams, and Monroe all knew and respected each other.  If they got together as a group early on, I believe that they could take on all of the rest.   We had a lot of Presidents who demonstrated physical courage.  It was an expected trait, along with personal integrity, until we got to Clinton.  speaking on Clinton, he is a sly, sneaky fellow who might survive a long time just by staying out of the way.  Obama would probably survive until someone felt that they had a free minute to get rid of him.  Certainly he would be no threat to anyone facing him as he would only sneak in when he could get a quick slash at someone without any risk to himself.
  17. For a History Professor, he has an incredible ability to ignore facts.  What a maroon! :yuck:
  18. Very true!  You never know who else might secretly agree or be undecided.   If you do NOT speak up, then the gun control advocates will interpret the silence as agreement.  Just by voicing an opposition, you let them know that the issue is not 'settled'.
  19. I told Mark twenty years ago that his most foolish act was setting up in Illinois.  I like his products, and I like his company.  They need to move out of Illinois and quit selling to stupid people.  He could drop his prices 10% or more if he moved to a business-friendly, gun-friendly state.  Tennessee has no state income tax on wages, hard-working folks, and lots of good land for shooting ranges.
  20. This is a perfect example of 'government is a disease masquerading ass it's own cure'.   The intent is to cause all private health providers to become government resources.  When you are dependent on a government bureaucrat to decide whether you or your loved ones can get needed treatment, then you will be much more likely to go along with losing other liberties.   Just like gun control, it's not about guns or doctors, it's about 'control'.
  21. Arguing is worthless.  Getting emotional is counter-productive.  But, if you can calmly engage in intelligent conversation, then the best thing to do is to remain calm, ask pertinent questions, and state only facts. Asking polite questions is usually the best tactic.  Instead of stating an opposing viewpoint, try asking a question about why THEY believe the way they do.    I usually try to guide the conversation by stating "On an issue this important, don't you think that a calm look at the facts is better than reacting blindly from emotion?"    Good questions are: What is the goal of that gun control proposal?  Why do you think that it will work?  (That gives you the opportunity to show why it WON'T work by asking further questions.) Why are you only focused on 'gun violence'?  Why is being shot worse than being blown up, stabbed, or poisoned?  (Gets the focus away from 'guns', and on to violence.)   If it gets emotional and confrontational, you have lost.  And your goal is not to 'win', but merely to get the other person to question their beliefs.  Once they can do this, then you can take it further later.

    Mag question

Two things will wear out magazine springs: 1)  Over compression.  Trying to load more cartridges than the magazine was designed to hold. 2)  Excessive compression/release cycles.  Typically, it takes thousands of cycles of loading and unloading to start wearing out magazine springs.   Downloading your magazine does absolutely nothing to help the springs.  In some magazines, the pressure on the top round is so great that the bolt or slide has trouble pushing it out of the magazine.  In those cases, downloading by a round or two can help that issue.  It does not increase spring life.   Leaving your magazines fully loaded will not wear out your springs either.  Modern steel springs do not develop a 'set' or lose strength from being compressed within design limits.  If you expose them to high temperatures or allow them to rust or corrode, then you can damage the springs.
  23. Some folks refer to our two major political parties as 'The Evil Party' and 'The Stupid Party'.  Certainly at the national level, the Republican Party qualifies as 'stupid'.  It seems that even here in TN, we have plenty of Republicans that qualify for that label.
  24. Actually, if you read the bill, it's a very good piece of legislation.  It is basically a 10th Amendment defense against Federal gun control.   The above link is from Comedy Central, where they attempt to ridicule the bill for referring to 'militia'.  Since the unorganized militia is all non-felons over 17, I think it sounds quite reasonable.
  25. Excellent!  Hopefully more manufacturers will jump on this bandwagon.  I'd like to see Ruger, Remington and Smith&Wesson involved.
