A friend is considering getting a Smith & Wesson 637 Airweight as her first handgun. I have owned a Colt, Taurus and Rossi revolvers but never a Smith. I wanted to know about experiences with this revolver, good, bad and ugly. She wants the one with the laser grips so if anyone has those also I would be interested in reviews. Thanks.

Looks great, hope it wears well.

SA mil spec is a great choice for an every day shooter. For a collectors piece I would try to find a vintage Colt.

Was carrying my .40 at wally world the other day. Bent over to pick up something my son dropped and when I stood up I noticed the guy behind me had moved over to the next line that was longer than the one I was in. Reached around to find my shirt had moved up and over the grip of my gun. I glanced over to see him trying hard not to look at me. Guess I frightened him.

Thanks for the report Dave. I considered getting one a few months ago but wasn't sure how I would like it. Just didn't feel right in my hand for some reason. Water pistol sounds about right though. I ended up getting the Sig p238. Just felt more like me. Happy for your wife. I love guns for Christmas.

I had the Davis .32 acp and a .38 special. Cobra bought the makings for these guns from Davis. Both went bang when you squeezed the trigger but neither was what I would call a quality firearm. I am a fan of derringers in general but Cobra/Davis are on the low end of the quality spectrum. I sold may .38 special not long after getting a Bond Arms Snake Slayer in .410/.45LC. These are great guns and I carry mine daily. Much larger and heavier than the Cobra but an infinitely better firearm.

Good looking pistol man. I love Guns and Leather. Great pleace to shoot, buy, and sell. They also have a great HCP class. I've bought several firearms from them and always got a great deal.

MetalStorm has several mititary prototypes that fire caseless ammo electronically. The ammo is stacked end to end in the barrel allowing one or all to be fired at once. In the handgun prototype, three rounds can be fired at once resulting in each round being place on the exact same spot with no muzzle climb because the gun only recoils once. YouTube - Metal Storm

I also have the .45 ACP barrel for mine and it shoots great. When I ordered it they were out of stock so I called to get an ETA on when one would be availible. Charlie at Bond Arms was great. In just a few minutes he found me one at their retailers and had them ship it to me. Got it a few days later. So not only is the gun top notch, so is the customer service. Gonna buy another barrel soon but haven't decided which caliber yet.

It is the best derringer ever made. Read my range report for full details. I use mine for car jacking defense and as a backup to either my P238 or my 40cal Star. Shoots great and is very accurate.
-
It can shoot 3" .410 000 buck, which is 5 pellets, each about the size of a 9mm all at once. When you are up close and personal, it's gonna HURT! I use it as my "anti-carjacking" gun. It's so simple. Shove it in the BG's face, pull the trigger and watch their head turn into a canoe. Who could ask for anything more:)

I have a Springfield GI. I don't carry it much as I have a Star M40 subcompact that fits nicely iwb. I went with the Springfield because it closely fit the WWII era look and feel. Plus the price new when I bought it was under $450.00. Can't beat a great shooter with classic style at a good price!

A 44 special is a shorter casing of the 44 mag. The bullet is the same just less powder. Same as the .38 special vs 357 mag. You can shoot a .44 special out of a .44 mag. The .44 mag has a hugh recoil and is hard to handle as a defensive round where as the .44 special is easier to shoot and makes a good home defense round. I have a .44 mag Taurus tracker I use for bear and dangerous bipeds when hiking. At home I load it with .44 special JHP for stray Zombies that might happen to wonder into my domicile late at night. So basically they are the same size slug, just different casing sizes.

Very pleased with my Sig p238. Took it to the range a few weeks ago and shot 50 round without any problems. Very accurate for a gun its size. Fits nicely into a back pocket or iwb. I love the single action and the fact you can clear the chamber without taking off the safety. Got mine at Academy Sports in Nashville for $430.00 last month.

Damn fine looking 1911. My complements.

Can of worms! That being said, I personally use 90 grain JHP. These have been found to be the most effective for one shot stopping power according to Evan Marshall and Ed Sanow's book: Stopping Power: A Practical Analysis of the Latest Handgun Ammunition. Here is a link to the quick reference. 380 ACP Stopping Power

This part of the tn code would suggest that it is also Illegal to possess said automatic knife or "switchblade" as defined by law. That being said, a Spring Assited knife with a blade less than 4" is perfectly legal and just as fast to open. And they are generally less expensive. "39-17-1302. Prohibited weapons. I was reading the post on being mentally prepaired for trouble if and when it comes. I recently hear this 911 call reported on the radio and thought it was relative to the discussion. Not sure if anyone else has posted it here on the forum but even if they have, it is worth a second listen.

I picked one up at Academy in Nashville a few weeks ago. Fits great in my back pocket and is a hell of a lot of fun to shoot.

.45 ACP is a big and heavy round with a low muzzle velocity. It is not known to over penetrate especially in a Hollow Point. It is known as one of the best personal defense rounds available. Here is a little light reading about the .45 ACP & its original mother the 1911 pistol. 1911: The classic homeland security pistol by Massad Ayoob Issue #83

I would go with the Springfield XD but in a .45 ACP. Go big or go home, we're not carrying to hurt peoples feelings.

I have had my Taurus PT111 Mil Pro for about 2 years now and it has been a great gun. I have put over 1000 rounds through it without any issues. I got mine for about $330.

Well, you know what they say, admitting you have a problem is the first step to getting better. Now go get another gun. You can always claim you were just trying to stimulate the economy.

Quick, get to a gun shop, it's your only hope of surviving the 1911 infection!

I considered the same thing for my SA1911. I finally decided to go with a Browning BuckMark, it was the same price as a conversion kit and a lot of fun to shoot. As far as training, I prefer to shoot similar loads to what I will be carrying. When the gun goes bang at the bad man, I do not want to be shocked by the .45 because I am used to a .22. Just my
