Wife just advised me I need to provide her a list of present request for my 50th birthday in February. I'm thinking I need an heirloom pistol since all my current pistols are carry guns. I am soliciting ideas on a "unicorn" pistol that will be a great celebration of 50 years on earth and also a treasured piece to hand down to my son when I'm too old to shoot it. I've been advised to stay within a budget of 2k the 3k so let's hear your ideas.

I had the Sig 238 and had the same issue with catch points. I now have the Colt Mustang Pocket lite which has rounded edges and combat sights. It eats everything and has no catch points. I also carry the Kimber Solo 9mm. Its a similar size as the Mustang but striker fire. It is very ammo picky though. When I don't have enough pocket for either of those, I rely o. My trusty Seecamp. 32acp. Fits anywhere and was made for personal defense hollow points.

I like unusual guns. Especially small backup pistols like the NAA revolvers and Seecamp 32. Unfortunately its hard to find belt holsters for these type of guns. There's hundreds of factory made holsters for 1911s, j frame Smiths and Glocks. But only a handful of custom makes for the unusual backups. What's a guy to do? Answer; Make your own. So after some encouragement from friends and forum folk, I have embarked on a journey to solve my holster dilemma. Below are my first two attempts. OK, new update. My knife now has a new sheath. Local guy made me a beautiful sheath exactly like I wanted and had my knife returned in less than a week. This is the sheath this knife should have come with when new. Couldn't be happier with the workmanship.

OK, leather smith I found was an epic fail. Started the journey in may. Contracted the sheath with certain specifications in mind. Waited 4 weeks (leather smith said it take one week) before I emailed to question the progress. Got the sheath a week later. Unfortunately it had some serious design features that were not discussed. Called him to talk about it and was assured it could be remade without the undesired features. Again was only told it'd take a week or two. Three weeks later I'm emailing again for a status. Next day I'm emailed a photo of a sheath that's so far from the original design, it looks like it was made for a totally different knife. "OK, thats not gonna work so maybe its best to return the knife and I'll look elsewhere for a sheath." He was very cordual and returned the knife the next business day.I have since been able to find a leather smith semi close to me so I'm very hopeful he can make what I envisioned for the knife. In the meantime I've been watching YouTube videos on holster and sheath making. Tried my hand at it today by repairing a sheath I have for my work knife. The stitching on the belt loop failed so I had the deconstruct the sheath and restitch it. Came out good for a first attempt. But it has prompted me to consider making a holster for my Seecamp. 32.

Damn fine looking knife.

I had mine for $600 but that was with both the 45/410 and .45 cap barrels along with extra grips, driving holster and ammo (.410 and .45lc). Can't say that I was that dissapointed when I took the post down. I really only carry it when driving on vacation or hiking in the smokies but when I do carry or shoot it, I remember why I got it.

Yes, the snakeslayer IV is the longer barrel. I had mine for sale awhile back but didn't get any takers on it.

I have the 3.5" snakeslayer and have shot 2.5" & 3" shells with no problems. I also have the 3" .45 cap barrel and it shoots great. Best part about the Bonds is all barrels are interchangeable with all the frames. If you do get a snakeslayer, the driving holster is a must. It makes the Bond an almost perfect anti-carjacking gun.

4.25" is the longest I know of.

Bonds are by far the most manageable derrengers due to the solid stainless steel construction. I've owned a Davis .32acp, a Cobra big bore .38spl and still have an American Derringer DA .38spl. The Bond has the least felt recoil even with the .410 000buck. I've got an NAA mini mag and it is a dependable bug. But I also have a Seecamp 32acp that is the best bug I've ever owned (and I've owner a lot of bugs). It is very picky on ammo but you'd be hard pressed to find something smaller and better made. Its pricy but worth every penny.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks. I found a guy locally and have commissioned a knife sheath. I'll post photos as soon as its done.

I've got a couple knives I need sheaths for. Anyone know of a reasonably priced leather smith in or around Nashville?

Can I get one with a custom serial number?

I was in San Antonio last week and questioned an Officer about Concealed Carry in places that serve alcohol as they are different state to state. What I was told surprised me. Apparently you can carry and drink as long as you don't blow over .08 and the bar doesn't have a 51% sign. (51% or more sales derived from alcohol). I decided to check the TX state website and sure enough, he was correct. I know many here would question the sanity of having a beer or two while packing heat but I applaud Texas for giving their citizens the right to be responsible for their choices. According to the officer i spoke with, he hasn't had any personal problems with people violating the law.

I prefer the term OCD (Ordinance Collection Disorder). I'm in a 12 pistol program and am taking it one range visit at a time.

I like "working" guns also. Every pistol I own (with the exception of my Browning Buckmark) is a carry gun. I don't go for the $1500 Pythons but I've been known to drop several hundred on a good Kimber or Colt. All of my carry guns are defense pistols. I like single stack mags and as small as I can get my fist around.
