Please read the post as I wrote it. No where in my post did I say the second amendment gave you the right to normal self defense, or the right to hunt, or plink in the back yard. I said "The issues surrounding the 2A are really quite simple. There are those who believe they have a PRE-EXISTING right to defend one’s self, family and property from those who wish to take or do harm. They also believe they have the right to defend themselves from a government that would wish to do the same. And then there are those who, despite all the facts and laws regarding 2A, believe no one should have the power to protect themselves. No one but the government and police should have the power to own arms. And that those who do own guns are a threat to these beliefs". This was in response to Brian's comment about the general public not understanding the issues surrounding the second amendment. So please Sir, if you are going to debate my words, please ensure they are MY WORDS.

So I am special and not part of the "general public" because I have an HCP? HMMM? I wonder what other things might exclude me or make me special. I'm latino, does that take me out of the "general public"? How about being a military vet? Could you please provide me a list of other things I have done that may also remove me from being part of the "general public"? I think you may have missed the point to the post dude. You might want to read it again. BTW, a 2008 USA Today/Gallup poll found that 73% of americans believe the second amendment guarantees the right to keep and bear arms. A second Gallup poll in 2011 found similar results. This would seem to support my comment that "The "general public", I feel, is well aware of the 2A and what it represents". And since my beliefs are in line with that 73%, I feel I am a part of that "General Public". But please feel free to send me that list, I do enjoy being told when I am special.

Sopa is a misguided attempt to prevend internet piracy. It may very well be a form of censorship. It is not however an arguement of the merits of free speech. Please allow me to clarify my ealier comment. I should have said "The Media" instead of "No One". I assumed since I directed these comments to Brian (he is part of the media) that it would be understood to mean the media. Sorry for any confusion. Now please tell me you are not using the Occupy Protesters as an example of the right to peacably assemble. I would hope you do not seriously believe that taking over property that is privately owned, refusing to vacate when ordered and trashing it in an attempt to get the government to take money away from those that have earned it and give it to those who have not is a good example of First Amendment rights. What? Did you not read or understand the post? Did I somehow imply that the only right you should ever be concerned with is the right to keep and bear arms? I realize I didn't cover the other 25 amendments in as much detail as I did the first two, but this is after all a thread about the second amendment and the issues surrounding it.

So I must have been mistaken for the last 46 years. I thought I was part of the "general public". Is there something about owning a firearm that precludes me from being a member of the "General public"? Because I choose to exercise my 2A rights, does that give me some special insight into the constitution that is not available to the average Joe? The "general public", I feel, is well aware of the 2A and what it represents. There is really no magic in its language, or mystery in its meaning. The issues surrounding the 2A are really quite simple. And that those who do own guns are a threat to these beliefs. I find it interesting that no one argues against the merits of the first amendment. I see no one challenging the right of the people to free speech, or freedom of religion. Or even of the right to peaceable assemble and petition the government for a re-dress of grievance. These all seem like very common sense rights that every person should be allowed to exercise. But the Second Amendment, the very one that enables us to exercise those first amendment rights. Well, that’s considered an open topic for public debate. Take away the right of the people to defend themselves and you take away their rights to all the other amendments. Ask the German Jews of 1938, or the Turkish Armenians of 1915. See how those "Responsible Gun Laws" turned out for them. But that’s just my two cents.

Almost bought the Public Defender yesterday at the gun show but found a sawed off double barrel 12 gauge I just couldn't live without. Nice range report.

Brian, the mistake here is the assumption that private firearms sales are soley the by-product of gun shows. It is true that a fair amount of private sales take place there, but this is only due to the fact that people selling know that people who want to buy are going to be there. But as far as targeting the gun show as the cause of these sales is a bias of the media who so often look for something to blame for gun crime other than the criminal himself. Private sales in Tennessee are already governed by laws. See below: (To whom may an unlicensed person transfer firearms under the GCA? A person may sell a firearm to an unlicensed resident of his State, if he does not know or have reasonable cause to believe the person is prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms under Federal law. A person may loan or rent a firearm to a resident of any State for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes, if he does not know or have reasonable cause to believe the person is prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms under Federal law. A person may sell or transfer a firearm to a licensee in any State. However, a firearm other than a curio or relic may not be transferred interstate to a licensed collector.) [18 U.S.C. 922(a)(3) and (5), 922(d), 27 CFR 478.29 and 478.30] So as long as the seller abides by these laws no "loophole" exists. I would bet more guns fell into the hands of criminals by the US Justice Dept last year than from private sales at gunshows. Maybe you should try contacting Eric Holder for a tour of his offices.

NYC gun charges dropped. Now I can Speak
Mykltn replied to JG55's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
From the NRA regarding FOPA laws. Seems this is a wide spread problem. Special Advisory for New York and New Jersey Airports: Despite federal law that protects travelers, authorities at JFK, La Guardia, Newark and Albany airports have been known to enforce state and local firearms laws against airline travelers who are merely passing through the jurisdiction. In some cases, even persons traveling in full compliance with federal law have been arrested or threatened with arrest. As noted above in the section entitled "Federal Law on the Transportation of Firearms," FOPA`s protections have been substantially narrowed by court decisions, and persons traveling with firearms may want to avoid New York and New Jersey or make arrangements to ship their firearms to their destination, rather than bringing them through these jurisdictions. -
Based on the holes in my wife's targets, it's gonna be hell on the belly at 35 feet.

Sacrilege! 1911's should be in .45acp. JMB would be rolling over in his grave!

Yes, the Tomcat is .32acp, the Bobcat comes in 22lr and 25acp. I got her the 32acp in the hope that she would be confident enough to carry it once she gets her HCP.

First off, thanks to all the folks who gave their reviews on the Beretta Tomcat. I found one for a very good price at Academy Sports yesterday. Brought it home to the wife and gave her the run down on it. The problem with past firearms I have given her is that she has difficulty racking the slide to chamber the first round. My hope was that with the tilting barrel on the Tomcat that she would be able to load it more comfortably. After taking it to the range today and letting her shoot 50 rounds, it appears we have a winner. She was able to load, cock and rock and roll this little baby with a confidence I have not seen her have before with an automatic. Other than a few jams from limp wristing the weapon, all the shots were dead on target. She shot from about 35 feet and placed all her shots center mass with a few very impressive bulls eyes. A pretty accurate little gun and a happy wife with a new toy.

I've had my Sig P238 for over a year now and love it. It shoots great and is a very easy carry gun. I use a belt slide holster or a De Santis pocket holster for mine. Great gun at a great price. Congrats!

I believe the Bobcat is the .25acp and .22lr, and the Tomcat is the .32acp. To my knowledge Beretta doesn't make a .380 acp in this frame. But I wish they did.

I am thinking of getting a Beretta TomCat .32 for my wife as a purse pistol. My stepfather had one when I was young but I never got to shoot it. I like the tilting barrel because she has problems racking the slide on most of my guns and even her Walther P22. What I would like to know is how it shoots, ease of loading and accuracy of the weapon. Any other note worthy info about the gun. As always, you are my go to guys so thanks in advance.

Murfreesboro Roadblock off 840
Mykltn replied to Kenstaroni's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The argument of every person who ever supported a law restricting your right to keep and bear arms. I am sorry about your friends dad. My dad was killed in a head on collision by a drunk driver when I was only 13. That being said, I do not support DUI check points. I will not give up my liberty for a little temporary security. -
I have shot it strong and weak hand from a quick draw and it shot very well. The ambidextrous mag release and safety makes it very easy to operate in either hand. The feel is very similar to a colt mustang or Sig p238. Still looking for a good belt holster for it. I currently use a De Santis pocket holster thats worked pretty well so far.

I almost got an MK9 before I found my Kimber Solo. I would love to shoot one to see how they compare.

Its Belgian, Browning made several guns for FN. This one looks like the Browning High Power.

I personally have nothing against laser sights. As I said before, I have a S&W with one. I am just old school and prefer the iron sights and point and shoot aiming. Just my preference.
-
So you're saying that if I caught you in my house in the middle of the night and I place two quick, well aimed shots into the center of your chest, you would not try and find an exit?
-
Looks cute but I think I'll just stick with my Bond Arms with the 3" 45acp barrel. I use it as a BUG when I carry my 1911.
