Two problems with removing it yourself 1. I am positive that S&W will not warranty it after it has been removed by owner 2. It leaves a hole in the frame of the gun I wish they would resume selling them without the crapy lock, better yet I wish Colt would resume production of their revolvers

A few years ago, probably still this way, Alabama did not require background checks for Handgun Permits, Local LEO could give to anyone of their choice and you only had to be 18 to obtain one, Florida and many other states agreed that that is irresponsible and therefore would not allow AL permit holders to carry in their state, I do not blame them

I have owned all 4 that you mentioned,(had a serious knife collection before Guns) I would hands down go with the Microtech

Good luck with the M&P, I have no experience with them, but while at Guns and Leather I saw an XD fail when 2 guys rented it it was a 40 cal and the firing pin broke,(they replaced it with a Glock) it was the first time I had heard of one failing, a month later the firing pin broke on my XD 45, after less than 500 rounds had been fired through it, the gun was bought by me New, as well as a Tactical model XD that I never shot, I sold both guns and replaced them with Glocks I know that Springfield would stand behind these guns but I lost all faith in their reliability when I saw this happen to somebody else's gun, then it happened to me. I now own 3 Glocks and I cannot seem to make them malfunction, for the money IMHO they are the Best pistols made for the price
