I got a few good ideas about mounting the radio in the truck, the detachable faceplates open up the doors quite a bit for a stealth professional installation in the cab, I have actually talked with a car stereo installation shop about this and I think you will like what I end up having done. I totally agree with you about the antenna, I do not want a 40m antenna I would like to do the smaller ones though I have seen in person a couple of raptors with smaller antennas and mounted on the bumper they were not bad looking in my opinion, but as you said the huge ones ruin the look of our trucks. I never imagined I could learn this much about Ham radios on a gun forum, you guys Rock!

I think I will go with this one, what is the shortest truck mountable antenna I can use with it? do I need two antennas? I will be mounting this in a Ford Raptor that sits very high, so i am wanting to mount my antennas on the rear bumper to keep them low for clearance

Actually i was looking at that one as well, it is much smaller and will fit my needs much better

Thank you for this

Alright guys, for those of you in the know I want a Radio that does VHF, UHF and the CB band for my truck, I also want the antennas (if I need two?) to be able to be mounted on my rear bumper and not be longer than 3 to four feet, is this possible? and if so what do you recommend? I will have my Tech license before i even buy the radio, and all required licenses before i use it, i have been looking at one from Icon it is very expensive so if there is a good radio that will do what i want and save me some money please let me know this is the Icom that i am looking at, would this work? http://www.icomameri...00/default.aspx

we have 3 house dogs and they are not use to him yet, his cage is huge he stay in there most of the time while he gets use to us. I take him out and have trained him to ride on my shoulder and that of my oldest little girl so he has plenty of time all around the house but for now it is supervised as i worry about one of the dogs going after him. if i had no dogs or cats, he would not need a cage only a perch he is very cool
-
actually I have him covered for the next 80 years, but I should make the 40 no worries!

We picked him up at the Nashville airport 2 weeks ago, he is a 7 month old Congo African Grey he had Jet Lag pretty bad as he was on the Red Eye flight from the Emerald Gardens bird sanctuary in San Diego to us. I have to say that he is by far the best Bird I have ever been around. He was a hand fed baby and it shows he loves my little girls and the whole family. What a wonderful intelligent animal these guys are, we absolutely love this little guy!

This is awesome, I had no idea so many of you were into this, I will be taking this in Wilson County next Month, my question is that if I successfully pass my exam how long will it take for my license to be issued and how is this done? Does the FCC actually make you a license? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I do not know how this works Also how long after I get my Tech license can I go for my General? I plan on studying for the General exam when I am offshore

I am an Electronics technician by trade and for the last 20 years or so I have off and on considered getting my Tech license. I have decided that I want to put a mobile unit in my Raptor and as I have always liked to do things by the book I have decided to get my license. I have been studying the last few hours and to be quite honest I am shocked at how basic the Electronics are, fortunately I remember most of that from my days in school. I will be taking the exam early next month and later ago for the Amatuer Extra I will be interested later in putting up a fixed installation in my home with a large antenna and a decent base station radio as well, are any of you all operators?

The box is a cardboard box, you should know this my 3k Les Baer was new in a cardboard box that is the way Les sends them all out $1400.00 is a great price for that pistol new they are $2k

I have owned 3 Les Baer Thunder Ranch specials, if someone is offering one that is in excellent shape for your Sig I don't care how rare it is you should jump on it and not look back

Quite a nice purchase you made there, Congrats on some fine knives!

I have had both, the Wicked Edge is quicker, they are both excellent sharpening systems I have had the Edge Pro Apex longer and to be honest I prefer it more. While it takes longer to sharpen blades I guess I am just more use to it that is why I sold the Wicked Edge. If you have a chance to try both I would do that before making a decision. I can tell you though that either one will be well worth your money and do a great job of sharpening and mirror polishing the Blade if you can get the Apex Edge Pro cheaper, go for it in my opinion

Randy, You have my apologies as I was not veiwing this from a self defense situation, God forbid if I ever have to use a weapon in self defense however it will be a firearm and not a knive as my first choice, And no I have never had to draw a knife when I was punched, every time I have been, I have punched back and the fight never escalated to the point I would need a knife. Unfortunately in the countries that I work in I can not carry any knife no matter what blade length, fixed or folding so for the most part in my situation whenever I can carry any weapon it is a concealed hand gun so you and I have two totally different views on what a carry knife should be

A good spring assisted folder such as a Zero Tolerance 0300 in my pocket can be deployed as quickly as a fixed blade from a sheath and has the strength to do anything that I would ever need it for. I can open it just as fast with either my right or left hand and it only requires one hand to use. I myself prefer to carry a folding pocket knife. If the law allowed me to carry one with larger than a 4 inch blade, then perhaps I would change my opinion on this matter
-
Fred, I will admit the Umnumzaan opens smoother but the double lugged Insingo Blade Sebenza in my opinion is the best folder out there besides a Hinderer which costs far more Really in all honesty it is a personal choice as both Chris Reeve knives are excellent and you would never go wrong with either

Had the fixed blades (and edc) out for a photo

Very nice set of Blades you have there! -
Trust me when you get your Sebenza you will not care what your wife thinks about it, in my opinion it is the best $400 you could spend on a pocket knife, just think what I had to go through explaining to my wife when I spent over $2000.00 on a Custom knife from Ken Onion, some things women will just not understand but they learn to live with it, at least my wife does

That sounds awesome! I may contact you in the future for advice for "Captain Jack", (my African Grey's name) if you don't mind, and hopefully he will be a talker like Stanley that is exactly what I want and I already have it planned out that my Grand daughter will take him after the Wife and myself pass as I know he should outlive us both
